Hi Aron, Ancestry, FTDNA and MyHeritage, are all different for me and after the Ancestry update I do think it may be slightly more accurate. Oddly they all said I was 21% Ashkenazi Jewish. Living DNA though have me as not having any Ashkenazi Jewish DNA at all and that is because they don't have Jewish samples in their database. Upload to them as they specialise more in Britain. But never rely on these ethnicity 'estimates'. I don't take any of it seriously at all. That is not why I did the test. I did the test to find cousins and help me to build my family tree. I now know that the grandad I knew and loved was not my biological paternal grandfather. Of that I can be certain. And now I need to discover who was although that could take many years! The ethnicity estimates are not accurate and probably never will be. It depends on the samples in the database for the individual testing companies and the chipset they use and way they process the data. I feel it is very wrong for these companies to be advertising that they will reveal this kind of information for you when they know it is not accurate. Build a family tree, and use your DNA test results to help you with your research for that tree and work out how people match up to you THAT is what it is for - not for an ethnicity estimate - which IS an 'estimate' and always will be. I've made amazing discoveries through my DNA results and am now doing the 23andMe test and my brother is doing the Y-111 FTDNA test in the hope of us figuring out who our paternal grandfather was. By building a tree and contacting your matches you can have so much fun!
I had a very similar experience when I uploaded my raw data from AncestryDNA to MyHeritage. In general, I find the AncestryDNA estimate to be much more accurate especially with the recent update. I'd tend to think the estimate from the latest AncestryDNA update is most accurate, they also pinpointed regions my ancestors emigrated from to America which verify based on my research.
Christopher Grillo that’s quite interesting. As I say in this video, I feel a lot of it is open to interpretation to an extent. Ancestry definitely got my regions correct as far as my family tree is concerned though
@@vidav1058 I absolutely disagree with you on that...in my case it is definitely not true. There's a lot of noise on MyHeritage with random geographic regions. For example, I'm mostly Italian and only received 8% Italy on MyHeritage, while it was 48% on AncestryDNA. Just watch more videos and you will see that by and large MyHeritage estimates create more questions and confusion than make sense.
Christopher Grillo I got an unexpected high Italian % from Myheritage but then it made sense because the Venetians ruled Cyprus for a while. Ancestry and other companies also gave me Italian.
I wonder where your Eastern European DNA came from with MyHeritage. I was 64% NW Europe and 4% Norway on Ancestry but on MyHeritage I got 38% Scandinavian, 5% NW Europe, and 24% Eastern Europe- Balkan! I have no idea where the Balkan DNA came from and why it's such a large amount, Ancestry didn't give me Eastern Europe at all. I wonder if MyHeritage considers Eastern Europe and Balkan something different than Ancestry My boyfriend got 67% NW Europe and 22% Ireland on Ancestry, on MyHeritage it says he's 97% English and only 0.9% Irish and 2.1% West Asian which wasn't on Ancestry at all. I am so confused about these results.. did you test with them separately or transfer your results?
Upload your raw dna data results to 23& me for FREE from Ancestry. You will get haplogroups which will tell you your maternal and paternal ancient lineage.
I enjoy watching these DNA reveal videos. I've seen people finding family members that they never know about and making new connections.
Upload to MyHertiage. Family tree DNA. Ged Match. Living DNA. All free if you download off ancestry
