    As a person who got just engaged with someone I love, call it "love marriage" as Indian parents say it, I am still not allowed to go out with him because of "log kya kahenge?!"
    First of all, shouldn't there be love in all the marriages?
    Secondly, when you choose to marry someone you love, why is it always looked down upon? And why you have to give reasons "they wanted to do it, so we just accepted it".. well parents should do accept it willingly and wholeheartedly...
    This is just so strange. It is very hard to fathom all this.

      Congratulations on your engagement

    • @Silverraine1
      @Silverraine1 2 года назад +3

      It's because your parents feel embarrassed so they give excuses. especially if your parents have friends/relatives with more 'obedient' children they imagine them feeling smug and laughing at their expanse, the whole 'log kya kahenge' happens because parents like to boast about their children (imagine you carefully made plans and boasted about your precious pet cat and wanted to find another cat of good breed for it but it went and mated with a random tomcat - it's that kind of feeling). and when you say 'love marriage,' to their generation it gives the impression that their child went off by herself, boldly, shamelessly, rashly, and selected her own spouse without asking their elders' advice or opinion, without considering anything like economic/religious/family status or background... this boldness was inconceivable to them in the past, do you remember in olden days how these people felt shy in just speaking aloud their wife/husband's name directly? my parents still don't call each other by name! Also, there should be love in all marriages but normally in arranged marriages love develops after marriage, which is nothing to scoff at, but traditionally it is seen in a better light (because virginity loss or 'bastards' are still taboo issues in many places and connected with loss of honour). I hope this helps you understand where they're coming from. I think the 'log kya kahenge' in your case most likely comes from your parents worrying what impression your in laws will have about you and how they might treat you based on that. Best wishes for the wedding!!

      if you never had this type of problem before then you need to talk to your parents as soon as possible and get it over with, what's the worst that can happen? what are you afraid of? will they force you to stop studying? or make you choose a different field? would that be really so terrible? they love you and worry about you and want you to be successful, they don't want something bad to happen to you, if they paid for your education maybe they're also feeling financial pressure themselves, they might also need reassurance that you're trying your best, rehearse with the therapist first, and you don't need to tell them about the therapy, just talk about your feelings to them, not talking it out will just make you more and more miserable...

      Two words, "Move Out". Trust me physical distance is your/our only hope. I think suffocating is the perfect word you used to describe how it feels like, it was the same for me. • @Pumpkiwi47
      @Pumpkiwi47 2 года назад

      @@maniprabha172 No matter how progressive they seem to be, they are still conservative at some level. I know the marriage thing, idk how old you are but if you're young enough to study and get another degree, that could be a good excuse to move out. You could go to another city for a master's degree, or abroad even. I did that, they never say no to education haha, so you can use that to move out.
      It's sad that they think we need a man to move out. But trust me, you have to rebel. Worst case, they would "disown" you, not speak to you etc but all of that won't matter in a couple of years. You'll have your own life, your own family maybe and they won't have such an impact on your life anymore as they have today. They seem to be the center of your world right now but soon, they won't be.
      I mean that's what they did to their own parents didn't they? I bet they don't listen to your grandparents always, they're not as important anymore. Same for us.
      I am engaged now to a man and I have a life here, I'll soon have my own family and I'll see my parents maybe once in 2-3 years (I live abroad), so that's nothing compared to being with them 24*7. Think about this future! That's what's going to happen and it's natural. It's a huge relief trust me. I am okay with meeting them sometimes but can't live with them anymore.

    Until I watched this, I thought I have been suffering this alone. But thanks to you Lilly, I now know this desi parents syndrome is not a localised disease, as you too might have faced it living far off from India 😅 . We are in the same boat sister...
    Love to Scarbrow💜

    I can totally relate. Everytime we visit my maternal uncle's house (which is hella patriarchal and no one believes in women rights), my mom changes so drastically and asks me to act according to their "family rules". It's frustrating. BTW love your videos so much Lilly loads of love for you 💗💗❤️

    Omg so true! last week my parents told me i couldnt go out after 9. I hv been going for my best friend for months. Our community has lights, cameras and guards everywhere, it is a closed community and people are always outside. Yet it isnt safe, nothing happened i just cant go out anymore. My mom was talking to her brother before she told me this.

    I feel so bad for Lilly
    She’s trying. She’s trying so hard to please her viewers with good content but all that’s happening is she’s losing followers and somehow getting more haters.
    Lilly, if you see this, I love you and I see your progress. You are doing amazing. Keep going. ❤️
