This video covers the basics of both HERO 5th Edition and 6th Edition.
Early on, HERO was my go to game. It allowed for a great deal of customization for any player or GM that was willing to work with it.
Plus, chucking a bunch of six sided dice and knowing each of them mattered when dealing damage was so very satisfying.
The main drawback to HERO, however, is that since it is so open, it takes a great deal of time to make anything with it.

I've been playing Hero System since 1985-still my favorite system. I am currently running a Pulp Hero game on Roll20, and Fantasy Hero in person using Mythic Egypt and Mythic Greece from 4th edition using 5th edition revised rules. Well done on this video, too.

The Hero System is an altogether awesome game and in all my 35+ years of role-playing have I never come across anything quite like it. When I first familiarized myself with it I felt overwhelmed. Not gonna lie. And then I was mindblown when it clicked. Thanks for making this video!

I have one question for you: would you recommend for someone who already knows the gist of the game from 4th and 5th edition to switch over to 6th edition? Thanks.

I personally don't like some of the changes from 5th to 6th -- they removed derived stats, meaning you have to spend character points on *EVERY* stat that you want.
E.g. if you want higher Recovery, you have to buy that individually; it's no longer a function of your Constitution. (Raising Con no longer raises Rec in 6e)
...that's actually the biggest change I've noticed, and the one reason I will continue favoring 5e. Things like removing Elemental Control Power Frame Works I can understand, and a few powers had their costs rebalanced, or adders rolled into the core rules for it. (I always re-read how a given power works at least once before I commit it to a character sheet, simply because there IS SO MUCH you can do with a given power in many cases; so these changes don't bother me as much.)

There’s a split on 5th vs 6th because of the change to derived characteristics. I’m coming from 4th to 6th after many years away. I like this change to characteristics.

5th edition is my preference; especially since the 6th edition books are... difficult to figure out which ones you need.
6th edition has several different revisions and volumes of the player's handbooks.
Meanwhile, 5th edition has the core book, and the revised core book. Both of which are *similar enough* that it shouldn't trip you up. (And there's also 5th Edition Sidekick, which is a rules lite version that is fully compatible with the full version!)
But for the most part, many of the rules do remain the same between editions. Attributes are the biggest change I can recall from 5th to 6th.
