    I’m so glad I found this video. It looks very simple so I will try this method to propagate to get more plants out of what I have. By the way, for those who don’t know, this plant is a VERY good medicinal remedy for coughing. Just wash the leaves, dip in a little bit of salt, and chew and swallow the juice from it.

    We call it Thick Leaf Thyme in Guyana. Love it. Bring it inside during winter and take it out in spring/summer.

    I propagated using leaf cutting and it grew healthy roots, however over time I realised the leaf is just turning brown, may I please know if this means propagation failed or that there's a baby plant emerging that's using the old leaf cutting as food? thanks!

      Could be that the pot is root bound/ too much of water or not sufficient light -

    I have a question about those leaves that grew roots, do you have some that also grew some stems or nodes from which stems will grow? Thank you for sharing.

    • @PlantZone
      @PlantZone  3 года назад +6

      The leaves that produce roots will produce baby plants and grow bigger into multiple stems with leaves. Yes, can be propagated using stem cuttings as well.

  • @megladigo
    @megladigo 3 года назад +1

    These will grow into full plants from just a leaf with no node?

  • @mbczxaydbzrkmszj
    @mbczxaydbzrkmszj 2 года назад +1

    Propagating this plant through leave is impossible. The leaves will stay alive and grow roots but will eventually die as they do not contain the cells that allow the plant to grow. These cells are only located at the nodes. Propagation via cuttings/nodes is the only way to propagate this plant.

    What is the minimum pot size required ? Can I grow it in delivery box?

    • @PlantZone
      @PlantZone  3 года назад +2

      It's up to you what you want to use as pot or container to grow your plant. Just ensure it has drainage hole at the bottom. This will help the water run out and does not make the soil soggy and rotten the roots. By the way, if your delivery box is made of paper, it it's not a good idea as when you water, it will make the paper wet and tear off.

    I need some guidance, i have the same plant and it was growing tall with big leaves. Suddenly after i shifted the pot to a little shady area in my car porch, the leaves started dropping and only the stem is left with baby leaves just growing. why could be the problem please enlighten.

    • @PlantZone
      @PlantZone  2 года назад +1

      This plant grows well under direct sunlight or bright area with few hours of direct sunlight. It needs sunlight. Unless your car porch is fully shaded. Furthermore, this is a sensitive plant. This looks more like an environmental shock. This happens when you relocated to a new location. Not all plants tolerate relocation. Is your porch bright? If yes, let it grow back. It will adjust. If not, best to move it back to where it can have more sunlight.

    • @PlantZone
      @PlantZone  3 года назад

      Don't worry you can plant the broken stem into soil and place it somewhere warm. It will grow root. The broken plant also will eventually grow new shoots, it will not die. 🙂

      It's Cuban Oregano. Mexican mint and Cuban oregano are closely related plants with similar appearances and uses. However, they have some differences.
