    I fly the 321 ceo/neo variants irl.
In the ceo, you usually have sufficient margins to climb close to the REC MAX altitude displayed on the progress page, however on the neo it is quite different, at the optimum level, the managed mach target is only a couple kts above the green dot speed with around 10kts margin for overspeed.
Keep in mind that the autothrust can be quite sluggish (especially with the speed managed) often allowing a deviation in excess of of 5kts or .02 mach. It can be mitigated with selecting the speed when encountering turbulence, making the autothrust somewhat more reactive.
A good rule of thumb is to stay 2000 feet below the REC MAX, to ensure sufficient speed margins.
All in all in daily operations we try not to push it and reduce our safety margins for a ~50kg saving on a 2hr flight.
Enjoying your content, keep up the good work:)

As an atco in real life, 370 is definitely the most common initial requested levels for the airbus and even Boeings with some even going 390+. Interesting to see the logic behind the discrepancy in the fmc.

Nice video! I spent 22 years flying B757/767 then 15 years A340/330/321/320. I still call it FMC! So don’t feel bad. But then the FMC abbreviation does appear in the FCOM although it is hardly used.
Just a clarification, REC MAX stands for Recommended Maximum not Receivable Maximum. Yes the acronyms are a bit of a challenge!!
    Enjoy the A330!

Indeed I thought the same thing, when I learned this I really asked three or four times if that's REALLY true. It was unthinkable to me that the FMS could be so drastically off that timetimes you'd bust the "maximum" altitude in order to get to your real optimum.
But indeed that is what it is.

That app is for a bogus aeroplane. The weights and thrust are different. We don’t usually go higher than 1200-1500ft below REC MAX. If you to and get slow you run the risk of underspeed, there is almost no excess thrust up there.

Does that make the airbus fmc partially useless as it doesn't calculate the best crz alt? Does it make it ineffective in this case? And can it pose a safety issue as you climb 2000 ft above because as a thumb rule? Plz do comment because I may have misunderstood last mentioned point.

      Particularly useless? No

Keep in mind, we do not just climb above the FMC altitudes. You'd run the calculation on flysmart on every single flight to determine the best cruise level. Only then you'd climb above the FMC altitudes.
