I don't know if you'll see this, because you posted this in 2017, but I'm a newly retired nurse and getting into gardening/permaculture. I'm working my way from your oldest to newest and taking notes :) I thoroughly enjoy your channel and everything you do, it's so refreshing. Thank you! - From Southern California
Oh Vivi your shed looks soooo cute and inviting. I can tell you've been working hard on it. Your garden is shaping up and looking beautiful. You can tell your broad beans like where there at. Plants talk to you like people. They'll let you know if they don't like where they're at...lol! ✌🏼️❤️& Happy Planting🌱🌱🌱
I am so grateful for all your hard work! It is just wonderful to see & hear the news from you and your allotment. No outdoor planting for us in Alberta yet. I guess I'll just have to garden Vivi-cariously through your videos until then! Heh, heh...
How wonderful! Isn't gardening so much FUN! Your videos are so delightful for me to watch. You have such a calm, relaxing manner........makes me feel great when I start my morning with you. Looking forward to the next one.................
Such an inspiration, Vivi! I am currently looking over my tomato seedlings sitting inside my window-- looking out at snow....ugh...yes, here in New York, USA we are getting 4 inches of snow today...your video of your lovely sunny spring day was just what I needed today!! X
Your garden is looking so nice. I'm so glad to have it to soothe my eyes. We woke to snow storm. Love the broad bean flowers and the other spots of flower color. Still a long way off for us.
i could barely concentrate on what you were saying as i kept looking at all the beauty of all the hard work you have done that has been created. and i did giggle ( sorry) when you described the fox action going on. i never knew they would do that until i started watching your videos with sean. thanks for showing all your hard work. it's priceless.👍
Gorgeous video Vivi. April is my favourite month of the year. It is so good to feel the warmth of the sun on the skin. Your shed looks like a lovely chalet. Lots of fun times ahead! 💋
Seeing your sunshine, hearing the birds, and seeing your gorgeous beds, just made me smile from ear to ear. I love the celery idea! and I'm really happy to see how much you have made your garden so beautiful and also fit for a queen. It really is a reflection of you. Your straight rows, the clean beds, and even the flowers that come up on their own! How amazing! LOL This journey sure is wonderful. Bless, Sheila
I love your allotment Vivi!! This weekend we're filling my raised beds then I can start moving plants out of my polytunnel! So excited!! Keep the updates coming xx
What a lovely video - it made me feel so happy! I'm looking forward to seeing how all your crops progress, and want to learn more from you about preserving the harvest, as up until now I've given most of mine away, but with my husband retiring I need to make it work more for me. Happy gardening!
what a joyous video, sitting watching over coffee at the start of my day :-). Just makes me want to ditch all the stuff I need to do today and go in my veg garden instead but will have to wait until Sunday :-(. I love all your plans for the coming season, your plot looks so prepared....ready and waiting yay for all the lovely lovely days ahead...have a smashing weekend Vivi and thanks again for a lovely start to my day xx
.....and thank YOU for your lovely comment. Today is a day off for me so it won't be long before I'm playing in the soil again. Have a great Sunday in your garden. :-)
Aww Vivi the shed Is perfect. I think 2017 is going to be a good growing year. lovely update as usual can you believe we are already into April. take care
Hi Vivi! Great tour. Always enjoy them. It's raining for the fourth day in a row here in North East Pennsylvania. I did manage to get some seeds for carrots, beets, peas, cilantro and bunching onions out the day before the rains. I'm hoping that they won't have gotten too bashed by all the rain and that I won't have to reseed. Enjoy the rest of the week.
A great update! So fun to see your garden getting primed for planting! Svetlana's shed is built! That's been in the works for a long time; it's nice to see it all up and painted! This is the first year that I'll be planting cosmos. I see them all the time in English gardens but never in the US. I love the airy look of them. Can't wait to see them bloom! Come on spring!
It's actually the shed for Tamara, Judy and Laura........Svetlana moved into Geoff's old shed. Ooooh yes to the cosmos.......I don't think my garden would feel complete without them. Happy spring to you! :-)
And we have a winner....best plot 2017 goes to Vivi...yeeeeaaah, well...that's my prediction anyway :) Thanks for the update, it's looking fabulous already...you and Mother Nature, what a great combination. Wow to the shed...even the smiley shelf is happy 😍 hope you have a fab weekend. Ann
Ab. fab. Vivi , to think that this little girl was facing expulsion just two years ago and now we are looking at a mini Kew garden . Kudos Vivi , now , don't you think it would be appropriate to credit the six country gardeners that must have been on hand to do all the Herculean work to create this endeavor ? Just kidding , great job , you should be proud of this showpiece .
Hello Larina and a very warm welcome to you! Sadly leeks have become something of a no-no for me because of the horrible Allium Leaf Miner invasion........it seems that nothing I do can stop them from getting in and ruining my leeks every year. :-(
I am loving your channel Vivi. We garden in Saskatchewan (try saying that fast x 3!) and have absolutely no winter garden opportunities. I love how you can replant areas for fall and autumn. I may have missed you saying what your little tree is, but am curious if it's fruit of some type? Also, I work as Registered Nurse and totally understand your situation. Good luck with your garden and enjoy your year.
Thank you.......I'm looking forward to this year so much! The little tree is actually a rose......it was already on my plot when I arrived so I have no idea what type.....
Great video Vivi, your plot looks really tidy. I'm also inter-sowing my Carrots and Onions this year, it would be great to compare notes later in the season.Best Wishes,Pete
Your garden is looking like it is on its way to a beautiful bounty soon......I hope possibly this fall you will take orders for your homemade buntings......they are beautiful......if you do decide to start making them for sale, put me down for 2 of them......I LOVE them!
You always have everything so tidy and organized, I wish I could be more like you . Thank you so much for all the great videos. I love the gardening ones as well as the cooking ones.
Wow. That is looking really good. I am envious of the time you can spend on the plot this year. I'm just trying to work out how much I can plant that I can realistically keep weed free
I grew a couple of perennial Egyptian walking onions a few years ago which come back very very early each Spring and are great for using the tops as spring onions :-) x
Napping...and dreamin'... I don't have foxes but I lay down light-weight chicken wire on top of veg or a couple pieces of tinfoil here and there and the cats can't stand prancing on it. Speaking of snacks...you'll have to sow peanuts now to make peanut butter for your celery..(tho a little voice is telling me you once said you didn't care for PB.) Happy gardening! :)
Hey Vivi Soooooo enjoying your videos. You are extremely knowledgeable and we viewers are gaining so much from your expertise. I'm inspired from your Dandelion foraging to make all sorts especially the dandelion and lavender moisturiser. Have watched everything now so cannot wait for the next instalment. Really hoping this is going to turn into a new financial adventure for you as well. Meantime enjoy every moment recharging your batteries!
The plot is looking great. All the little green shoots coming up. Wonderful. I was wondering if you've ever considered a clump of bunching type onion to carry you over while your bulb onions are growing. You could build a cage for them to reside under all the time to keep the allium leaf miner off. They give a large crop for small space. Too much crop for us as we don't use loads of onions, preferring leeks , garlic and shallots. I'm starting to get jealous of your broad beans. Mine still haven't come into flower. Their flowers are my favorite part. They do smell wonderful. They look to be about to bloom. Same with the sweet peas. The eating peas are in crop so we get to enjoy them. It seems to be a nice spring for once here. Can't wait to see your plot in full summer. It's going to be amazing.😀
You have peas already??!!! I'm so jealous!!! ;-) I'm thinking of other onion alternatives......maybe a quick crop of spring onions?.........It's all starting to happen and it makes me so happy. :-)
Spring onions or the bunching types. Need to extend the harvest. Just got to watch the video on rice and bean salad. Definitely going to make those. For lunch tomorrow. Yummm
I LOVE that fox cushion! Did you make that one or was it bought? If you made it would you be willing to share the pattern....OR MAYBE that can be one of the things you start manufacturing in your cottage industry?!
!st, I want to thank you for all your helpful videos. I like to watch (and re-watch) them. You make gardening look fun even with the hard work involved. I'm trying one for the 1st time this year (just things I like to eat, as you suggested) but started my seeds too soon. Had planned to put them in this weekend, But... weatherman says it's going to snow. I may have to restart seeds or just buy plants from garden store. Live and learn, right? Can't wait for your next video. Have a good weekend.
The learning is half the fun........I'm always learning......and just when I think I've cracked it mother nature sends a curve ball and teaches me not be complacent! ;-) Have fun with your garden this year. :-)
Looks wonderful and it's great to hear your excitement.. Each year, I feel as though I'm starting with a blank canvas. I know there'll be a resulting painting later in the year...I just have no idea what'll look like. Happy gardening Vivi!
Hi I just discovered your channel. I love gardening. I'm from Nebraska and they grow a lot of corn here. Did you know sweet corn and popcorn are two different types of corn? You can't let sweet corn dry and pop it like popcorn. Just don't want to have you be disappointed when you grow it. I love your garden! It's so neat and well laid out. Thanks, Vi.
Your shed looks lovely. I might have been dreaming but I didn't think you had anyone on your left side? or are they new? lol... I thought it was a corner shed? Now where's the pool gonna go? - It's snowing here in upstate NY. Might be my hearing/speakers... but you seemed to be a bit muffled until 2:00 (not counting the wind) then again on and off. fyi: We call it "popcorn" not sweetcorn, sweet corn is eaten fresh on the cob. popcorn is a dried corn. Like your green beans vs your dried beans.
I grew a red corn, think it was called butchers corn last year. Got massacred by worms, only managed to get a few husks with useful kernels from 12 plants, still, got about 500g of dry corn and they pop really well, white and fluffy!
Ps, I know you grow organically, and so don't want to use chemicals. I use an organic spray that contains bacteria which infect the worms and make them stop feeding. Works like a charm. It's a brand here in SA called Margaret Roberts. Not sure if that sort of thing is available in the U.K.
Hi Vivi, l meant to sow chickpeas last year but I never got around to it, l will this year. I have a bag of dried chickpeas l bought from the supermarket, will these be ok to sow? Loving your vids 🌿
It's 7' by 6'......I think building all the fitted shelving and 'cupboard' plus painting it white make it feel bigger. I'm so happy with it.......just need to find some time to finish painting it and putting some more shelves in...... :-)
I plant mine quite close.....about 15cm between plants in the row and 20cm between rows. They can need a bit of support (especially against wind)....sticks either end of the row and then string up and down the row.....
Can you boost the volume or microphone yourself? I can hear on my phone with headphones but has my computer sound all the way up and struggled to hear. I have other comments and love this but need volume please. 💗
It happened on one other where you were sitting in front of your shed at the table I think. When I had sound on my phone it sounded like there was wind so maybe the computer is reading that too. I know for windy days they make microphone covers that are furry and baffle the wind noise. Now you are becoming a real RUclipsr with street cred when you cope with sound issues. Lol.
What are you using to video with? You are doing great. I taught film class and you are 400% better than most beginners. Must be all of the videos Sean shot and edited he is a great example. No apologies it's all great and I can adjust Was trying to watch with t just home from hospital but she fell asleep anyways. Her illness is rendering her uninterested in life. But for me it's a life giving breath of fresh air and very inspiring.
Does the calendula have any companionship with the parsnips? Potato rows look great!! Popcorn! Yay! Great idea! What type of edamame? Fox video was insane!! Agility foxes! Lol Planted leeks next to carrots last year. Worked barring carrots going to seed. I lined the carrots with a rectangle of leeks like guards. Broad beans look so perfect! Love their flowers! Smart on cardboard paths! I might steal that. Yay bean sticks! What type are you growing for the bean canes? Cold frame!! Lucky! Any benefit to nicotiana flower? Never grew them. Your shed needs a 2nd floor! Lol. Shed is magical. I have super shed envy!!! Talk about a room of one's own! Ladybird is bringing good luck to your nap spot. The view from the shed is so perfect! Thanks for sharing your life. Makes me so happy! Good to see you happy also!
hi Vivi got a problem with my greenhouse tomatoes ...ie TOUGH SKINS variety Alicanti Sweetie Moneymaker { salad tomatoes } Vivi i'm at the end of my tether as what to do its now the start of the growing season i want to get right from the start please help me Ed
Hmmm.....not sure.......I don't grow any of those varieties and don't grow in a greenhouse. I'd say, if they are for storing, skin them first before bottling/freezing. Is it possible to start some more/a different variety?
hi Vivi & Sean Thanks for the info on my tomatoes tough skins ... by the way i love your videos you both put out very informative easy for amateur gardeners to follow you are the best " and of cause rusty he steals the show never work with animals or children no joking apart we have a cat looks identical to rusty pudwood is his name has to up in the front "dead nosy" we love him ....anyway thanks again keep those vid coming they are a joy to watch ..thanks again best wishes to both........Ed
Vivi, have you tried asking all your male friends to sprinkle their urine around the edge of your plot? It's an old remedy for keeping foxes away and is well known by chicken keepers. It does have to be male pee though. I believe it's the testosterone that makes the foxes believe it's another dominant male's territory.
Something that has worked for me in keeping chomping critters off is to put every nasty tasting thing I can think of, like cod liver oil and Tabasco sauce, in a sprayer with some water and a bit of dish soap, and douse the entire plant. They take one bite and never come back.
What a lovely way to start the day. A cup of coffee and a video from Vivi. Cheers!
Have a lovely day. :-)
I don't know if you'll see this, because you posted this in 2017, but I'm a newly retired nurse and getting into gardening/permaculture. Oh thank you so much Claudia......and happy retirement/creating your garden! 😊
Oh Vivi your shed looks soooo cute and inviting. I can tell you've been working hard on it. Your garden is shaping up and looking beautiful.
You can tell your broad beans like where there at. Plants talk to you like people. They'll let you know if they don't like where they're at...lol!

Thank you - happy planting to you too. :-)
Your garden is looking so beautifully tidy and your new she'd is just adorable.
I love it! :-)

I honestly don't know how you cope with such a long winter! I'll try to keep supplying some green and sunshine until your spring comes. ;-)
i could barely concentrate on what you were saying as i kept looking at all the beauty of all the hard work you have done that has been created.
and i did giggle ( sorry) when you described the fox action going on. i never knew they would do that until i started watching your videos with sean.
thanks for showing all your hard work. it's priceless.👍
Hahahaha - I sort of have to laugh too!
Thanks for the lovely update! Our weather is dark and dreary (and wet!!!). Looking forward to some sunny days.
Hope you get some sunshine sooooooon. Don't know how long ours will last so I'm making the most of it on my days off. :-)
Gorgeous video Vivi. April is my favourite month of the year. It is so good to feel the warmth of the sun on the skin. Your shed looks like a lovely chalet. Lots of fun times ahead! 💋
Feeling the sun.....hearing the birds.......napping in the shed.......blissful times! :-)
The plot is looking great. So exciting to see it coming along.
Yay!
Awwwwww.......thank you!!!! That means a lot to me. :-)
Thanks Vivi for the lovely April overview of your plot. Makes me want to get onto my plot !
I'll be racing off to mine again soon.......make hay while the sun shines! :-)
The shed looks so inviting.
I can't wait to finish it and start having more visitors.... :-)

Such an exciting time of year eh? Have fun! :-)
Plot looks amazing Vivi! You sound so happy!
Sunshine and the start of spring always make me happy. :-)
What a lovely video - it made me feel so happy! I'm looking forward to seeing how all your crops progress, and want to learn more from you about preserving the harvest, as up until now I've given most of mine away, but with my husband retiring I need to make it work more for me. Happy gardening!
I'll definitely be doing videos on preserving when the time comes. Happy gardening to you too. :-)
And since celery is a biennial maybe you'll get seed for next year! :D
The plot looks lovely Vivi!
Hopefully it will seed before I need the space! :-)
April across the pond is glorious, compared to my snowy April...
I am so grateful to live in a mild climate......I love being able to garden all year round. :-)
what a joyous video, sitting watching over coffee at the start of my day :-).
Loving the April video, so many jobs to do but its a wonderful time of year
Argh......yes.....so many jobs.......and I can't wait to get stuck in! :-)
Aww Vivi the shed Is perfect. I think 2017 is going to be a good growing year. lovely update as usual can you believe we are already into April. take care
Can't get my head around it being April already......seems we jumped from winter with no warning! The sun has been wonderful! :-)
Vivi, your garden looks great! Enjoy watching your videos here in Texas.
Thank you! :-)
Hi Vivi!
We could do with a drop of rain here......not too much mind, and not on my day off! ;-)
Your edging is just amazing! So satisfactory to look at! Great update!
I'm a tad obsessed!
Ann
Lol!! Have a lovely weekend yourself. :-)
Ab. fab. Vivi , to think that this little girl was facing expulsion just two years ago and now we are looking at a mini Kew garden . Kudos Vivi , now , don't you think it would be appropriate to credit the six country gardeners that must have been on hand to do all the Herculean work to create this endeavor ? Hhahahaha - thank you!
I love how straight you garden rows are. The grass paths are perfect! It's so pleasing to the eye! :)
Awww, thanks lovely......I don't think I could be any other way than neat. ;-)
Very nice! Hard work paying off.
Cheers! :-)
Just found your channel, love it already.
Did planting leeks in between the onions work?
Hello Larina and a very warm welcome to you! Sadly leeks have become something of a no-no for me because of the horrible Allium Leaf Miner invasion........it seems that nothing I do can stop them from getting in and ruining my leeks every year. :-(
@@WhatVivididnext Oh ok. Thank you for the reply and welcome🙂
I'm in love with your shed 😍
Me too! :-)
I am so jealous of your paths :) Great plans for the growing season!!
Lol!
Great update! Your edges and paths are so sharp and straight!😊
:-) ......not sure how long they'll stay like this! ;-)
Fantastic allotment and oh my word your shed is the shed of my dreams!!!
Mine too! It's not quite finished but I'm glad I took the plunge to make it........it has become a very special place for me. :-)
excellent update Vivi all looking good :)

Great video Vivi, your plot looks really tidy. I'm also inter-sowing my Carrots and Onions this year, it would be great to compare notes later in the season.Best Wishes,Pete

Thank you......once I finish work I'll start sewing. :-)
You always have everything so tidy and organized, I wish I could be more like you . Thank you so much for all the great videos. I love the gardening ones as well as the cooking ones.
I'm a bit of a neat freak and can't function without being organised.......hahahahaha......there are worse habits to have. ;-)
Wow. That is looking really good. I am envious of the time you can spend on the plot this year. I'm just trying to work out how much I can plant that I can realistically keep weed free
I am so looking forward to it........just a few more weeks at work to go.......
Vivi, don't forget that you can use onion tops until you get the new crop in.
.......and the garlic scrapes. :-)
I grew a couple of perennial Egyptian walking onions a few years ago which come back very very early each Spring and are great for using the tops as spring onions :-) x

I'm checking the skips in the area for bits of chicken wire! ;-)
Such a practical young lady...Lol! :)
good afternoon Vivi !! great plot update !! you and your bunting, you should make some and have it to sell because i'll be first in line lol
I will start making it to sell soon....... :-)

Exquisitely tidy! very inspirational.
I like a rampant garden, but the neat-as-a-pin look is just SO alluring. Glad you are filming your devotion.
Hahahaha - I like rampant too.....with a neat edge. ;-)
Jealous of your sunshine. It's rain, rain, rain here in BC
We could do with a drop here........but not on my days off please! ;-)

The shed belongs to my new neighbours...........no hot tub for me then eh?! Not sure what happened with the sound........
whoops! Accidentally deleted comment, offer of Jerusalem Artichokes is still there, and still loving your channel. Argh technology!!
Lol! Arrgh technology indeed!!!!!! I am befuddled and bemused by it on a daily basis!
Well done Vivsta x

......not forgetting the cats and foxes! ;-)
Thank you for that info Vivi. I think your shed is gorgeous x.
Cheers. :-)
Oh my, your straight edges! Hahaha, everything looks perfect. :)
I have a clear case of OCD! ;-)
Looking good Vivi :D
Cheers! :-)
What is the lovely blue/purple flower next to your gnome?
Something from the primula family.......it was a gift so I don't know for sure.
Hi Vivi, l meant to sow chickpeas last year but I never got around to it, l will this year. I have a bag of dried chickpeas l bought from the supermarket, will these be ok to sow?
Loving your vids 🌿
I don't see why not......most of mine last year were sown from a bag I bought at my local health food shop..... :-)
Hi Viv, hope you're ok. Could you tell me what size your shed is please? It looks really big on the screen! Have a fab week x
It's 7' by 6'......I think building all the fitted shelving and 'cupboard' plus painting it white make it feel bigger. I'm so happy with it.......just need to find some time to finish painting it and putting some more shelves in...... :-)
its looking good xx
Cheers......can't wait for the sun to come back! :-)
Broad bean question, how close do you plant them and do they need supporting in any way.
I plant mine quite close.....about 15cm between plants in the row and 20cm between rows. They can need a bit of support (especially against wind)....sticks either end of the row and then string up and down the row.....
Thank you that's a lot of help.
Hi Vivi,
Just one question. If your living without a wage, how do you pay your utility bills?
Regards,
Bill
My utility bills are tiny - I have set the money aside for them from my last couple of months wages.
great update :)
Cheers. :-)
Can you boost the volume or microphone yourself? I can hear on my phone with headphones but has my computer sound all the way up and struggled to hear. I have other comments and love this but need volume please. 💗
I'm not sure what the sound problem was on this video......sorry it was muffled.....
I'll have to look at the camera.....and see what the label says. ;-)
Does the calendula have any companionship with the parsnips?
Potato rows look great!!
Popcorn! Yay! Great idea! What type of edamame?
Fox video was insane!! Agility foxes! Lol
Planted leeks next to carrots last year.
Are you going to make bunting to sell online?
Yes......once I stop work and catch my breath. :-)
THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:-)
hi Vivi got a problem with my greenhouse tomatoes ...ie TOUGH SKINS variety Alicanti Sweetie Moneymaker { salad tomatoes } Vivi i'm at the end of my tether as what to do its now the start of the growing season i want to get right from the start please help me Ed
Hmmm.....not sure.......I don't grow any of those varieties and don't grow in a greenhouse. I'd say, if they are for storing, skin them first before bottling/freezing. Is it possible to start some more/a different variety?
There you go.......it needed someone with a greenhouse to answer. Thanks Sean.:-)

are you gonna pickle that red cabbage vivi 😄
No......I'm not a fan of pickles......I like it shredded with carrots and onions and a bit of yoghurt......sort of like coleslaw.... :-)
oooh nice 😄
Vivi, have you tried asking all your male friends to sprinkle their urine around the edge of your plot? It's an old remedy for keeping foxes away and is well known by chicken keepers. It does have to be male pee though. I believe it's the testosterone that makes the foxes believe it's another dominant male's territory.
Tried it for the last three years........doesn't seem to put them off one jot. :-(
Something that has worked for me in keeping chomping critters off is to put every nasty tasting thing I can think of, like cod liver oil and Tabasco sauce, in a sprayer with some water and a bit of dish soap, and douse the entire plant. They take one bite and never come back.
Hi
Hello.
