My daughter works in an NHS mental hospital, and works Xmas every other year. So as a family we have a ‘big’ Xmas every other year and a quiet one In between. People are amazing and I’m full of gratitude for all the workers.
I work at an animal rescue and was in work until around 1pm today but there's nothing I'd rather be doing, the cats can't feed themselves! Merry Christmas!

I had one of those Snoppy piggy banks too. My parents about 75% of the time didn't buy name brand toys for us. I grew up in the home of an alcoholic, so Christmas was not so great when they were drinking. One year my parent had the whole family out weeding the yard in our nice clothes, and I and another didn't even live there and were young adults. My other parent either worked or went visiting, though we would do a special breakfast. I create my own Christmas as an older adult and even buy gifts for myself and the cats now.
I’ve got a pot noodle for my dinner - I could have had anything I wanted, and I chose a pot noodle - I’m taking a flask of boiling water and making/eating it in the park as soon as it’s dark enough!
Thank you so much for talking about how Christmas can be difficult for some people. I've come to hate Christmas only because of all the pressure and stress and everyone's need to go over the top. He brought up an old vlog and you were both buzzing around the sheds and wearing your grey outfit with the grey beret with a red pompom. I remember that back then, I loved the pompom and the little get together you guys all had on the allotment for Christmas one year - where has all that time gone. I live in NZ and have never been to the UK but those are my memories you guys shared. I love these global interactions and yes Christmas makes us remember. We need to take those memories and cherish the moments; they pass but will always be a part of us. How lucky are we to have had all those moments 🥰🥰. Merry Christmas Vivi. We have adopted a tradition from Iceland where they give a book and chocolates for Christmas Eve. I'm already planning for next Christmas too, because we are doing a remodel. Of course when you remodel you must plan where the tree will go.

I wanted to be alone and cooked a Christmas dinner just for myself. I purchased no gifts this year and just received chocolates and wine. Love that you gave a shout out to everyone who works on Christmas. For years I worked in a group home for teens and usually worked all the holidays. I am a healthcare worker and find that it's rarely mentioned. You made my day! Re: holiday melancholy... the older I get the more people I "lose" from my life... and the more I struggle with nostalgia. And, of course, holidays bring thoughts of missing loved ones to the forefront. I make my best effort, however, to appreciate the here and now. 🙂
What a great day to thank the Lord for Christmases past! My Grandma Olson would spend the week before our entire family showed up making sandbakkels. The pile was always on her kitchen table arranged in a small mountain of buttery delight. And we the grandchildren acted much like our forefathers Vikings and conquered the entire mountain in hardly any time at all. Then we would try on our new mittens she knit us in our school colors. My Swiss Grandma Ingli ((Inglee), who had the gift of entertaining also had dainty butter cookies with little silver balls on top. There I was not able to show my Viking roots. But the peace loving Swiss side with the refined manners. Thank you grandmas!
I watched you in two parts as my day allowed😁. I appreciate you so much for spending time with your community today. I very much agree that we all like a gift to open:). I too checked out a Christmas mystery book from the library so I’ll be reading along side you! Christmas is not the same since my son and I are so far from relatives/family but different doesn’t equate bad, just different from my childhood and young adult Christmases. I did make traditional ham, mashed potatoes, cornbread, and veggie meal. And had our Happy Birthday Jesus cake for dessert! Merry Christmas, Vivi 🎄🕊 It's Boxing Day now in New Zealand and we are celebrating our Christmas Day today as I was working yesterday. Like you I have worked on Christmas Day most years. This year I was actually rostered off but one of my young mum nurse colleagues had been rostered to work so I worked her shift so that she could be at home with her children. It was a nice vibe on the ward and - miracle of miracles - 4 of my 5 patients were ambulatory and my empty bed didn't get filled🙌 At home we don't get carried away with the OTT Christmas trend. We like to keep things simple and our gift rule is something we need, can use, or a book we've been wanting. So this year I got two lovely books which I will treasure and a stoneware baking dish which is the perfect size for my sage and onion stuffing and is in the oven as I type. My daughter got a couple of books from her wishlist, a small box of Russian fudge (her favourite), and her favourite perfume.
Watching this on the 29th and I was feeling a bit flat today but this cheered me up 😀 first of all I love cranberry sauce 😀😀 we had a nut roast with the traditional trimmings. I was very lucky with presents this year and was treated by my daughters to a new huge bug hotel , books ……lots of books and a machine to froth milk so I can make lovely hot chocolate. I’ve also read several Christmas crime books this December but do like a ghost story. I’m currently reading The Winter Spirits Ghostly Tales For Frosty Nights and it’s really good We had a busy Christmas Day with family and grandchildren but Boxing Day was spent mostly reading which was bliss

I hope you had a peaceful Christmas Day Vivi. I was glad to be home with my daughter after a week spent in hospital earlier in the month and then an overnight visit on the 23rd/24th following a "blip", but luckily got home on Christmas Eve afternoon. My darling girl, despite being exhausted from travelling each day to support me during my stay and sorting out cat feeding etc., came over and took over the cooking of our "nice dinner with a tree in the corner", as we call it, and I was thoroughly spoiled with gifts from her and my nieces. The best present of all though was just being home with her (even if she did beat me at Trivial Pursuit) and feeling so much better, thanks to our wonderful NHS. I started to watch your vlog last night (Christmas Day) but was tired and had to be sensible and go to bed, so caught up this morning. I'm sorry you got trolled for your "treats for a tenner" - it is one of my favourite vlogs on the whole of RUclips each year and is so uplifting to see your absolute glee at such modest expense. All I can say is that it says a great deal more about the trolls than it ever could about you, so keep on being yourself and keeping it real. I'm looking forward to seeing you make your new place into a lovely home (it's about the love you put into it, not the money spent on it) and seeing some new, as well as some old, traditions for 2025. I will be enjoying a very quiet Boxing Day (cheese and biscuits, and cake day😄) and settling down with my crime novel (a very gritty Val McDermid in my case) and the cat taking up most of the blanket😻. I hope everyone can feel as contented as I do right now.

Love that you gave a shout out to everyone who works on Christmas. For years I worked in a group home for teens and usually worked all the holidays. And then I usually was on call later with another job. Very challenging. I do appreciate now not having to work on most of the holidays. Merry Christmas Vivi

Re: holiday melancholy... the older I get the more people I "lose" from my life... and the more I struggle with nostalgia. And, of course, holidays bring thoughts of missing loved ones to the forefront. I make my best effort, however, to appreciate the here and now. 🙂

What a great day to thank the Lord for Christmases past! My Grandma Olson would spend the week before our entire family showed up making sandbakkels. The pile was always on her kitchen table arranged in a small mountain of buttery delight. And we the grandchildren acted much like our forefathers Vikings and conquered the entire mountain in hardly any time at all. Then we would try on our new mittens she knit us in our school colors. My Swiss Grandma Ingli ((Inglee), who had the gift of entertaining also had dainty butter cookies with little silver balls on top. There I was not able to show my Viking roots. But the peace loving Swiss side with the refined manners. Thank you grandmas!

I watched you in two parts as my day allowed😁. I appreciate you so much for spending time with your community today. I very much agree that we all like a gift to open:). I too checked out a Christmas mystery book from the library so I’ll be reading along side you! Christmas is not the same since my son and I are so far from relatives/family but different doesn’t equate bad, just different from my childhood and young adult Christmases. I did make traditional ham, mashed potatoes, cornbread, and veggie meal. And had our Happy Birthday Jesus cake for dessert! I’m looking forward to giving the house a good clean out before the New Year and starting up with new plans/goals for 2025

It's Boxing Day now in New Zealand and we are celebrating our Christmas Day today as I was working yesterday. Like you I have worked on Christmas Day most years. This year I was actually rostered off but one of my young mum nurse colleagues had been rostered to work so I worked her shift so that she could be at home with her children. It was a nice vibe on the ward and - miracle of miracles - 4 of my 5 patients were ambulatory and my empty bed didn't get filled🙌
At home we don't get carried away with the OTT Christmas trend. We like to keep things simple and our gift rule is something we need, can use, or a book we've been wanting. So this year I got two lovely books which I will treasure and a stoneware baking dish which is the perfect size for my sage and onion stuffing and is in the oven as I type. My daughter got a couple of books from her wishlist, a small box of Russian fudge (her favourite), and her favourite perfume.
Yay for the empty bed staying empty! And yay for lovely gifts. 😊

Watching this on the 29th and I was feeling a bit flat today but this cheered me up 😀 first of all I love cranberry sauce 😀😀 we had a nut roast with the traditional trimmings. I was very lucky with presents this year and was treated by my daughters to a new huge bug hotel , books ……lots of books and a machine to froth milk so I can make lovely hot chocolate. I’ve also read several Christmas crime books this December but do like a ghost story. I’m currently reading The Winter Spirits Ghostly Tales For Frosty Nights and it’s really good
We had a busy Christmas Day with family and grandchildren but Boxing Day was spent mostly reading which was bliss

I hope you had a peaceful Christmas Day Vivi. I was glad to be home with my daughter after a week spent in hospital earlier in the month and then an overnight visit on the 23rd/24th following a "blip", but luckily got home on Christmas Eve afternoon. My darling girl, despite being exhausted from travelling each day to support me during my stay and sorting out cat feeding etc., came over and took over the cooking of our "nice dinner with a tree in the corner", as we call it, and I was thoroughly spoiled with gifts from her and my nieces. The best present of all though was just being home with her (even if she did beat me at Trivial Pursuit) and feeling so much better, thanks to our wonderful NHS. I started to watch your vlog last night (Christmas Day) but was tired and had to be sensible and go to bed, so caught up this morning. I'm sorry you got trolled for your "treats for a tenner" - it is one of my favourite vlogs on the whole of RUclips each year and is so uplifting to see your absolute glee at such modest expense. All I can say is that it says a great deal more about the trolls than it ever could about you, so keep on being yourself and keeping it real. I'm looking forward to seeing you make your new place into a lovely home (it's about the love you put into it, not the money spent on it) and seeing some new, as well as some old, traditions for 2025. I will be enjoying a very quiet Boxing Day (cheese and biscuits, and cake day😄) and settling down with my crime novel (a very gritty Val McDermid in my case) and the cat taking up most of the blanket😻. I hope everyone can feel as contented as I do right now.
