Anyone got a Maybach and dig it - or had one and didn't dig it?
The last thing I wanted to try in terms of Les Pauls that aren't Gibsons are the Eastman if I can find one....

I picked up an S-type Maybach for Paul of @thestudiorats recently.
Acoustically it sang, however Paul is rather more discerning than me and wasn’t 100% on keeping it.
Might be worth having a chat with him?

I have Lester 59, I bought from Henning Pauley when he was having an on line garage sale of stuff he no longer uses. It was his review if this actual guitar that made me aware of the brand and made me thought there might be a LP for me that I could afford i.e. from the light not `overwound´ sound. I have their Strat´ copy too (a pre Nick Page standard). They are both lovely to play and sound great to me. The Strat´is a touch heavy, the Lester is a good for an LP - they aim to never go over 4kg I read in the blurb somewhere.

@@johnnathancordy Got one in Goldburst recently. The Lollars into the Helix Princeton is pretty much perfection. £2k or under is a good price I reckon, most places are starting to ask around £2,200 now. I think there'll come a time when they're sought after - possibly even this early 2020s period will be like late '50s Gibsons or something if they end up banking their rep and churning out bigger numbers soon. I dunno, but you can still find some at the older prices right now, I'd recommend getting one if you can.

I’ve owned a Maybach Lester Honeyburst for about three years. It’s a great guitar a mate of mine has a custom shop Gibson Les Paul and we’ve played and compared them on a number of occasions we both agree that although there are a few differences in terms of sound and quality they are on a parr.
The way I would describe a Maybach is Les Paul Custom shop for Standard price. The pickups are really good German Custom built. Personally I love the light relicing it gives the guitar a really nice vibe.
I think I paid about £1700 for mine. I bought it new from The American Guitar Centre when they were in Islington London. A quick shout out they were excellent literally allowed me to sit down for hours on a comfy sofa playing through numerous amps with a coffee and even ordered a pizza, the whole experience was exceptional very very relaxed.

I’ve had some Maybach LPs and they all sounded very muffled at the neck and compressed at the bridge to my liking. I remember the wiring was a bit on the messy side and that the cavities were heavily shielded, which ain’t the best combination with PAFs aiming to the more open chimey, vintage sound.

Maybach make fantastic guitars! I'm not sure about the light weight...I always feel that a single cut guitar should be heavy, but thats a personal preference. I also think the FGN Neo Classic LC/LS series are up there too, I have the LC10, LS10, and LS30. Great guitars from the Fujigen factory which are also worth a look, mine are all keepers!

    • @flowryan5829

I tried the whole FGN LP-style line and nothing really came close to the Maybach in my humble opinion but maybe that‘s just me.

I have the Maybach S54 strat - it's up there with Fender Custom Shop with amazing Amber pickups and the finish checking/light relic. Only gets played in certain situations though as the neck is the baseball bat profile. But yeah - picked it up for less than a US standard strat , so there's that. Maybach are almost non-existent in Australia so don't like my chances of finding a Lester but have had my eyes peeled.

@@flowryan5829 i'll check... but it seems that all maybachs in Barcelona are in internet shops (Alfasoni, Auvisa, etc) but never in stock. Same for the rest of shops in Spain except AI and sometimes Richard Studio in Pontevedra. I guess the guitars travel within Europe for the final sell.
Fanatic Guitars in Barcelona used to carry them but they stopped just before covid. They're focused just on good stuff and care less about brands than other shops.
I'm too old and too poor for a 2000 euros purchase for a 2 hours of playing test to finally understand that i'm not sure if i love it or not because of the rush of the purchase: "i have to love it because i spent a lot of money for it and i don't wanna send it back because i spent a lot of money!"
