Today, let's test some cheap LED headlamps from eBay, compare them with a more expensive branded one, see what's inside and how do they work, reverse engineer the schematic and also try to modify and improve them.
Your actual camera is perfectly fine!
Yea
Yes..
Yes agreed
Ues
1:00 it's not a problem for me, I didn't even notice the problem with sound
I heard crackling with the cat video.
🤣🤣🤣
3 modes: high brightness, low brightness, annoying flicker
You manage to make the videos methodical and scientific, yet at the same time entertaining and fun. Thank you!
8:54 My cat always says don't talk and bring me food.
Almost died laughing when I saw the picture of a person! :-D
😁 that person is you.. also me.. 😅😅
*clicks on video*
2 Seconds into the video: Wait a sec, i thought this was a BigClive video?!
Same
Well, i was confused at first, specially because in both channels there is a huge amount of hair.
But now i know, the one here is a cat
I enjoyed the picture of Mr potato head shooting laser beams from his head
In the UK, we use the word 'torch' for 'flashlight', so here a 'headlamp' is often called a 'headtorch'.
'Headlight' is just confusing, I agree.
For measuring current from batteries like this, I use a narrow strip of _very_ thin double sided circuit board - unetched of course - with wires soldered both sides - this will slide easily between battery +ve and the connector. You could have a loop of thick wire and use this with your clamp meter of course.
All your videos look and sound perfect
Another useful video DGW. I couldn't agree more about that flash mode being annoying, does anyone even use it?
Flashing light is more likely to get noticed in emergency situations. I would prefer a single-mode flashlight you can flash manually or by holding the button, though.
No it's it's an artefact of them using the same chip from bicycle lights
I use the annoying flash mode when dogs gets near to me and tries to bite my leg. I point the light to them and they will get confused and sometimes they just run away.
@@jusb1066 they also use the same chip in scuba diving flashlights. It's marketed as an emergency beacon in that case. Some of the more expensive ones (for Chinese dive lights) even blink out SOS in Morse code. That has some utility I guess.
Just love youe work!!! LOVE from Bangladesh 🇧🇩🇧🇩🇧🇩

I think your camera is completely ok. I only noticed the crackling when you mentioned it :D
But I kind of like it, because it doesn't sound like a professional video studio but more like someone who is like me and other normal people. So it feels familiar and nice.
I also find the flashing mode useless. They could have made a mode where the LED flashes very shortly every 1 or 2 seconds. So it would allow one to signal position in darkness while saving battery.
When I was at the university, we had a game, called strobo-soccer. We played it in a dark hall, with strobe mode lamp (only one). That is the only user case I can imagine 😊
The "2.70 USD" model is available in Poundland in the UK in two tone blue/black for £1
Having everything on one board does make it cost less but makes it much more difficult to hack, except for changing the resistor.
Useless driver😂, and I don’t know why don’t just put a joule thief pcb in
Good old "oil spot photometer" (drop of oil on paper), very simple method to compare light power/area of two light sources :)
How does it work?
Nice info once again sir i like all of your videos thanks Alot sir G
You should test cheap Car Led, RetroFit etc.
Nice video 👌👌🙏🙏
Please make video on reverse engineering schematic of diesel Generator Automatically Voltages Regulator (AVR)
Maybe the annoying flickering is supposed to conserve a little power and make the wearer more visible? I can’t think of another reason for it.
The video is just fine, it's the audible popping and crackling like you are too close to the mic ?
Maybe use a wired lavaliere mic?
Keep up the good work.
i have that black one you have (except mine's blue) it goes through batteries like there's no tomorrow... but its still pure handy for when i need my two hands doing stuff. I must put one of the MANY old Nokia batteries in it so it can be recharged.. have loads of those BL-5C, A's & B's & C's from old phones that need to be put to use with charge protection modules i got, like the TP4056, & the many pound-land power-bank(the 1:50 euro job) with an 18650 inside.. worth it for the module and battery alone.. & the fact they have a 5volt boost converter is class too.
I will try to run it on some NiMH AAA's from Lild I recently bought ;).
The black one is my favorite
Head lamp and head light can be interchangeable in English. (Depending on the locality of the person). I would say we're all not as good at your language than you are at ours :)... but I understand why the chinese sellers used both terms.
Beautiful
Once looked forever to find one for my needs, one with white light, and red light to save night vision. But designers are clueless, most can't be operated without switching white on.
What model is your clamp meter? I have several different models to chose from but the one your using looks good.
On some chips if you hold the power button it enters SOS mode.
Have you got the nixie and vacuum dispaly clock?
i figured you would modify a camera with mic jack input or audio on separate device and upload in video editing software and then combined the to but audio is ok to me God bless nice videos
The annoying flashing mode is useful when you want to annoy people, e.g. the ones parked on cycling paths.
Nice
Ludzik z taką wielką głową to długo sobie nie pobiega ;-)
Your video make my smile :)
You are amazing man
Thank you DGW! But i would have stopped the video. the cat has to be petted first. sweet. 🥰🐈
Thanks a lot for sharing...the cat so funny "). Just started making repair tutorial vid too and still need some motivations.
I love headlamps so i made it myself. 😋👍
Thanks DGW, could you suggest a mod that would disable the flashing mode?
Love from Romania 🇷🇴🇷🇴🇷🇴
I love Romanian singers.. ❤️
I hope it’s clear that the max brightness is not the most important requirement for a headlamp that may be used in harsh environments and for serious work, where you need a headlamp that will not crap out after 3 uses or after being used in light rain. Or if it gets dropped, it will stay intact and not shatter or stop working. So just because the led that was sourced from whatever the finest street vendors in Shenzhen had today is brighter now, when brand new, does not mean squat for real-world use. Thank you for listening to my rant.
EDIT: Also, the cooler light temperature (bluish tint) will output more light per watt than a warmer color, but warmer colors produce light that will keep the colors of whatever it’s lighting up much more accurate.
Sound is perfectly fine.. we are here to learn something, not for ASMR 😁
I love the diagram... although the person wearing the headlight might have been spending too much time staring at flicker mode!
2:20 those batteries come from LIDL supermarket :)
bruh i have a $0.5 key lamp which has similar battery configuration, 6 led, YN890 controller chip and 1R5 smd resistor
though i hear some noise in your video, it's still acceptable to hear.
Doesn't your cat have a name? Annoying Flicker Mode sounds like a great selling point! Did you miss your calling in marketing? ;)
What about sofirn sp33 l have this lamp for some vhile now I would like to see some disasembly or rewiew
I like that egg-headed guy
may as well be zinc and sawdust, they are good for almost nothing anymore, possible exception of very low current devices like an lcd clock or watch...
Who is the boss in this hose? You, your girlfriend or the cat :D
I guess the girlfriend. 😁
There is also a very shy dog. I miss him
A new camera would be nice! DiodeGoneWild in 4K :D
From time to time I record 1080p instead of 720p, but then I go back to 720p because my computer barely manages to edit 1080p.
@@DiodeGoneWild I understand. I wish more people were interested in your channel so you could buy proper equipment. Although your videos are still super entertaining and informative to watch no matter the video quality. Keep it up! 😁
Yeah, «Calm Down And Show Me Your Internals!» it must be. ;DDD
What's so terrible about the sound on this camera?
"It's pointing at the waaaaaaaalll"
👍
5:30 Just use a shunt.
1080p?
720p this time. I only make 1080p when I have a lot of patience.
As long as the cat is in shot, not many of us will complain about the sound…
13:00 missing component
I can edit subtitles for your videos
These head lamps are useless if they don't have an adjustable hinge that allows for a downward light direction. Also, these should have a removable 18650 Li-ion battery, integrated charging/protection circuit that allows for operation while being charged. Charger connected by µUSB. Resistor easy to change, for LED longevity.
Waterproofing is not needed, because they usually do a horrible job at that. Rather build it so that it can easily be totally taken apart without tools, for easy drying.
New idea "comparison bluetooth speaker"
cheapies are bit brighter because the chinese always drive these things to the max, the exy one will last lot longer
Girlfriend?
I heard on 1:05?
I thought you're already married 😂...
Blueprints of the girlfriend needed, I am lost here ...
Hi
Hi
Original camera is fine i think
AAA headlamps all have poor runtimes on high 15mins.
Agreed, I dislike aaa appliances in general
Not the aaa problem but the useless ic
I modified one of this with joule thief
@@horacewonghy great idea
Question: how many papers you waste every episode?
They are not wasted, cat uses them for bed :)
Paper is natural.. wasting paper is not a problem i think.. we should worry about plastic
If you're gonna get a new camera, look for a Canon Powershot SX230 HS. It's a great camera and is now cheap only because it's a bit old.
It's an ultrazoom with a tiny 1/2.3" sensor, I'm not a fan of those :). I'm thinking about something like Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100 or DMC-LX15...
@@DiodeGoneWild That's a great choice too. What's the camera you currently use?
Why not measure the relative light output using a solar panel and current meter? Bare eyes or a camera give highly questionable results.
Lux app or lightmeter app on Google play store would be useful. I use them for my job every day.
@@DoubtingThomas333 I am aware of this, and have _Phyphox_ installed on several devices. Sadly, the accuracy in low light is abysmal, and you would likely not be more than 10 discrete steps above 0 at that value. Also, he has used the method I suggested before, with 3.5 digits of accuracy (2000 counts) on his multimeter.
@@vaclavtrpisovsky phyphox? I'll check it out
@@DoubtingThomas333 _Phyphox,_ or _PHYsical PHOne eXperiments_ is RWTH Aachen University's open-source and lightweight app that extracts, displays, plots, records and saves data, as raw as possible, from various sensors of your device: light, proximity, 3-axis accelometer, gyro, GPS, magnetic field, pressure or mic.
So that’s what you look like
Oh those useful but useless lamp😂
Those headlamp itself is no problem but the useless led ic🤣. 99% not working is the ic problem, just drop it and the ic dead😂 also it draw the battery quickly especially in 3s configuration😂 I have one of this ic dead not working lamp and I mod it with joule thief and turn it into a useable lamp with just single AAA battery powered.
Interesting, could you post a schematic please, this would be very useful for lots of people, and would also delete the much hated "flash" mode! Thanks :)
