Cessna 150...60 knots for 700 Miles!!

- Here is my 700 mile Cessna 150 flight with a 35-40 knot headwind. It took 2 days and 13 hours of flight time. The audio was garbage, so I did the best I could to tell the story.

Hours and hours of boredom - punctuated with moments of stark terror.

Great video, loved the sounds effects. Nice to get a view of the fuel spots you hit. And will look into your 182 videos. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the ride ! Loved that 150 .
Thank you for still posting the video.I enjoy your videos, and this one is still great even with the audio challenges. Cessna 150’s are always fun.
I appreciate it, Reuben.
im more of a 152 kinda guy ;)
I got my PPL in a c-150 at lake Geneva 1983. The old Play Boy club.
Enjoyed the video. We always stop yearly in Springfield enroute to Oshkosh. A really great FBO there.
Hello, seasons greetings and cheers! Wonderful video.
This is great! I just bought a 1968 150 a few weeks ago and that fouled lower plug issue at mag check is real business!!
I had to taxi with the engine leaned out. We still ended up burning the carbon off the plugs pretty frequently.
Still a great video even without the true audio. Loved the turbine sounds, lol - that was great! Always love adventures like this, no matter what mode of transportation it is. Of course flying is the better of them all. I'd still take 50kts groundspeed over city traffic any day! :) Glad the new owner is happy. Onward and upward! Happy New Year!
I complained about being at 50 knots a lot, but the view was pretty cool (and MUCH better than sitting in traffic).
Another Great Video Thank You .
I appreciate your support, Mike.
I really like the white dashboard. It makes it easier to see the gauges. Great shot of the plane at the end!
Happy New Year 🎆 to you and your family! Good luck to your son on his private pilots license!
Thanks Claudine! You still need to stop by Lake in the Hills airport and get signed up for lessons. Much better flight school over there.
@@quinnjim One thing that I really enjoy is getting tips from your videos. Flying a plane really makes all my problems disappear, it's the only place where I feel really focused. I know that sounds weird.
Any-how, I feel more motivated when I see you and your kids fly! I will be back at flying next year!
Sallisaw is Oklahoma. 20 Miles to AR boarder on I-40. Great Video! I just found your channel and have been enjoying it!
Glad to hear it!
Sad to see the 150 go (I'm a little biased, I love mine), but I'm glad she went to someone who's flying the wings off her. Can't wait to see the new content from the 182.
Looking forward to more content from the 182 next year. Happy New Year!
I need to dust off the old GoPro and make some 182 content. I want to do a short field takeoff video and a demonstration of the capabilities of my new Garmin panel.
awesome
Hey Capt. Quinn, Happy Holidays to you and your family! Best Wishes for a safe and Happy New Year!
Happy Holidays to one of my "regulars"!! I appreciate you.
@@quinnjim-- Thanks! I’d wager if you did You Tube full time you, and, added camping, fishing, hunting, in addition to flying, you could make millions. I watched a hot tent camping video last week that then had I think it was over 2 million views in just 2-3 days. The video was posted on 12/17, he now has over 12.6 million views just for that one video, in what 12 days?
@@thesearcherman6652 That's pretty good. I'm torn about putting more hunting stuff on this channel. It seems like successful channels stick to one thing. Guns seem to offend people. Some of my biggest videos are of gun stuff, so maybe it doesn't matter.
@@quinnjim- Check this out, just one night camping.

Wow…I hope to do something like this someday..
That was a present video just the way it is. Good job on the talk over.
Thanks Paul!
Very similar to a trip I flew with my brother. Sioux Falls SD to Salome AZ (1450 miles) in our Cessna 175. 40 kts on the nose for 2½ days, 19 hours total air time. Flew 500 - 1000 feet most of the way to stay out of the turbulence and lost our transponder somewhere over Oklahoma. It's not an adventure if you don't have some excitement.
Sounds like a great trip.
Liked and subscribed. Your comments to mirrored my own thinking. I'm also thinking insurance fraud and that the FAA should pull his license because if his panic is real HE. SHOULD. NOT. BE. FLYING.
Similar experience but definitely not as bad haha. Just did my commercial cross country in my Cessna 150. 55-60 kt ground speed the whole way up, but was looking forward to the next morning figuring I’d have a pretty good tail wind. Of course I woke up and all the winds had completely died down
Of course!😀
With a Cessna 150 it is good to lean the engine on ground operations
It's essential to lean Continental engines on the ground to avoid overheating and reduced engine life. Pilots with Lycoming engines tend to run them full rich on the ground, and as a result they must deal with spark plug fouling as shown in this video.
All that was missing on the landing sound effect was the altitude count down like on an airliner.😂
Happy New Year.
50-40-30.....That would have been cool.
Enjoyed the video and appreciate the upload. I'm currently flying a 1965 150E. Wanted to mention I had landed at Sallisaw in 1990 in a Cessna 140. It looks the same...but a nice stop even back then.
Love your videos. Just to clarify, the KC-135 is not a 707 based tanker. The 707 was derived from the same prototype. The KC-135 is closer to the prototype 717-80 with a narrower and shorter body and wings swept from the root. The 707 wing sweep is farther out and the wing is longer.
Learn something new every day! Thanks for the info.
A great little airplane. Think you will you notice her absence?
I liked the efficiency of the 150. I could have bought 3 Cessna 150's for the price of my 182 engine/prop overhaul. I think getting 3 guys together to but a 150 is one of the easiest ways to get in to aviation with minimal risk. I kind of miss the plane (would have been much better for teaching my son), but having 4 seats and flying at 135 knots is MUCH better!
Jim, as always thanks for your videos, and also for answering everyone's questions. Here's another one for you. I noticed that you had a Garmin 296 in the 150 panel. I recently bought a 1947 Cessna 140. I still have my old 296 from years ago and was able to get all the updates so it works fine. And of course I have foreflight on my iPad mini and iPhone. Here's the question-- do you think it's worth it to install the old 296 in the panel, or should I get a newer Garmin aera 660... or just stick with firelight yoke mounted? I'm not flying any major missions, but there are a lot of places to go in the North East where I live, and I like the redundancy. Do you find the 296 useful enough or is it best to upgrade? Thanks so much!
The 296 is great. It gives you everything you need. My 182 has a 496 in the panel (very similar to the 296). When I put my new IFR panel in, the shop wanted to pull the 496 out. NO WAY! I use it all the time as a reference. It's a nice backup in case my GNC 355 fails too.
@@quinnjim Thanks so much! I appreciate your advice, which I know is always honest!
Shame we didn't have audio but still an awesome video.
I had that same ground speed for 200 miles in my tripacer the other day......brutal!!
Man, a 150 in great condition like that is a true unicorn! I have been looking for a 150/152 to start my flight training with. Sure, I can rent, by why not go ahead and by a great little time builder? About nine months ago the price of anything airworthy pretty much doubled. No fun.
You used to be able to pick one up for $16-18K. I bought this one for 24K and sold it for a little more a year later. Low time engine and pretty nice cosmetically. I've seen some lately where guys are asking for over $50,000. I think that's crazy. We were flying around for $20 per hour in gas. Great little time builder.
@@quinnjim Yeah, the days of finding anything airworthy for under $30K are long gone. I'm disappointed that I missed the boat, and also that I waited for so long to fulfil my lifelong ambition to get my PP-SEL certificate. My wife finally got tired of me looking skyward every time a GA aircraft flew overhead, and told me to get busy.
@@bradrobinhancock8491 The only place to find cheap aircraft is on the Salvage Yard
@@MartinSage While waiting for my flight training instructor this morning a nice 150/150 dropped in at KSEP. Beautifully restored on the inside and out. Had stall vanes and STOL stuff. Very nice, $55K. About 245 hours on the engine since the STD was installed.
Crazy to me that it might've been faster and simpler to just drive in a car. You must have to really love flying to make a trip like this.
I was helping deliver the plane for the new owner. It’s normally only a 7-8 hour flight. The winds were just awful.
@@quinnjim Understood. The Cessna 150 looks to be about as slow as it gets. Still, I bet the views are great 😊
Any thoughts on the Trevor Jacob "engine out"?
It looked like there was a riverbed that he could have landed on. Seems a little fishy. The plane definitely flew better after he jumped out.
Sallisaw, Oklahoma
Sallisaw Oklahoma says "Arkansas can bite it yo'!"
That’s me in the right seat on the thumbnail!
That’s pretty cool! That was probably up in Minnesota, right?

I want to do this so bad. From Quebec, Canada to North Perry Airport KHWO in Florida but I need an aircraft first
That would be an adventure!
You made the right call to trade up for a 182
It is a LOT more useful, but burns almost 3 times the gas.
No Maddie no watchie! 😡😂
I almost added Maddie to the intro. She is in town for the holidays! I keep telling her to make some content.
Hate seeing loose items on the glareshield.
There wasn't a better winds aloft then that?
I eliminated my (172N) mag issue by taxiing lean to run-up area.
I thought about selling my 172 and getting a 182 but I rarely carry passengers. Performance increase to fly mostly solo with a higher operating cost per hr wasn't worth it for me.
I'm feeling the pain of fuel prices with my 182.
Hey John, or other pilots who might be able to answer a couple of questions that I have. I have always been interested in aviation and I would love to become a pilot but I don't know if my disability would automatically disqualify me from becoming a pilot. I was wondering if any of you would know if Paramyatonia Congenita (Form Of Muscular Dystrophy) would be an automatic disqualification for becoming a pilot. I was also wondering how much it would cost to get a pilot's license and how many flight training hours it would take to get one. I'd be real grateful if someone could let me know.
I have a friend who is a major airline pilot with Muscular Dystrophy. He manages it with medication and can fly airliners. Eventually, it may end up disqualifying him as he ages. I think you should be able to get a license. In the U.S., a Private license costs about $10,000-$12,000. It takes a minimum of 40 hours of flight training, but the national average is about 80 hours. Go to your local airport and see if the flight school offers a "discovery flight". That is a cheap way to fly around for 30-60 minutes to see if you like it.
@@quinnjim thank you very much for letting me know. I am going start saving up so that I can start a new career. I enjoy being in the air and I have done flight sims for a few years now.
i just bought a 150. useful load is 473. That's not much. How did you guys manage your fuel with 2 adults on-board?
With 22.5 gallons of usable fuel at 6 pounds per gallon, you can bring two 170 pounders. With half tanks, two 200 pounders.
lol well saved.
I've seen you comment on a bunch of vids, I was wondering where you went.
I'm on RUclips a lot. Just need to find time to make videos.
You. Should talk to. 310 pilot. He just put his plain up for sale. And. His hanger. In Aurora. IL
I have corresponded with him a little. I was interested in his 310 until I saw the sale price was $335,000. That is a little out of my price range! Probably one of the nicest older 310's on the market. The junky ones are $70,000, so I was hoping his was $150,000. I was WAY off!
@@quinnjim well. I. Hope you wind up with. It. Your daughter. Been flying. ? She has not posted anything.
I just looked up the N number. This plane is no longer flying according to faa.gov. I wonder what happened?
It has flown 3 times this month according to FlightAware.
@@quinnjim i transposed a number. I checked again and you are correct!
