Great Scott album of world stamps, issued probably around 1940. 4:44 Germany 1946, Russian occupation, issued for Eastern Saxony. The used stamp from the same series got a DRESDEN cancellation. The China part is nice to look at, but without the real gems like large dragons, small dragons, dowager set, good PRC sets etc. 1:08:40 WW II, Empire of Manchukuo. Anyways, a nice time travel to see how philatelic beginners collected ca. eighty years ago ! 👍Greets from GER, U.
I re-created my Google account just to write this comment: I had to re-play when you said Petersburg, IN. It’s 30 min from where I live, and I used to have relatives who lived there 😄 There’s a guy on eBay who sells stamp albums from Winslow, IN (also near there). I’ve bought albums from him. Just thought it was kind of neat to hear you mention somewhere so close. Nothing is ever mentioned about these towns in the middle of nowhere 😂
Thee Bedding stamp is for matresses. Several states issued them. I am starting to get really onto Revenue stamps. The labels on the Belgian stamps are for Sunday delivery. If you did not want your letter to be delivered on Sunday you kept the label on otherwise you tore it off before mailing. This collection was started when Chinese stamps were readily available. When I started seriously colledcting in the early 80's they were still all over the place. Not so now. The first stamps of Czechoslovakia were designed by Alfonse Mucha. I love his art nouveau artwork. Yes stamps marked Bohemia & Moravia were issued under German occupation. When I went to high school my mother wanted me to take French because it was the language of sophistication. I signd up for one semester of French and then switched to Spanish and did not tell my parents. I grew up in Los Angeles. What was I going to do with French? The problem with this kind of album is that you cannot put in new pages so when you get newer stamps that are not pictured you have to put them some place. Just an FYI the four stamps from Eciuador at the bottom right at 47:04 are not Scott listed but they are in the Sanabria catalogue. They come overprinted and not overprinted. The overprints are Department initials M.ED. is Depaetment of Education, M.OO.PP is Department of Public works, M.RR.EE is Department of Foreign affairs and M.S is Department of Sanitation. Department in Spanish is Ministerio hence the M at the beginning. If you are interested I can send you a copy of the page from my Sanabria catalogue. On the Egyptian stamp E'tat means state in French so service e'tat is an Official stamp. In case you are not aware on the French page at 52.20, second row down, fourth from the left. All French stamps with this cancellation are precancels. Did you notice on the French Guiana page the third stamp down overprinted "Territoire de I'Inini? Inini is a portion of French Guiana that issued its own stamps for a period of time and are listed under Inini in Scott. France Libre was put on stamps for colonies run by the Free French as opposed to the VIchy Government for WW 2. General Government stamps were issued for German Occupied Poland and are listed in Poland in Scott. For Guatemala the bird is a Quetzal, Quetzalcoatl is an Aztec diety. Italian colonies in Africa include Cyenaica, Tripolitania, Libya, Oltre Guiba, Somalia and Eritrea. Italian East Africa stamps were issued for a period for Eritrea, Ethiopia and Italian Somaliland. Feld post means Field Post (Military stamp) and KuK is an abbreviation for Kaiserlich und Koniglich (Imperial and Royal). This particular stamp was issued under Austrian occupation. The Japanese stamp with the unusual overprint is probabky a Japanese Occupation stamps but I cannot see the stamp clearly enough to identify the country of occupation. A lot of these Japanese overprinnts are not listed in Scott. If you did not notice the souvenir sheet is actually from Montserrat. If you want a cheap easy dinner try getting a whole roasted chucken. It is already precooked so all you have to do is cut pieces and warm it in the microwave, I buy one and it lasts as a main course for a whole week. If you want something great to listen to at work try Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of the Worlds. Narrated by Richard Burton, it is part narration and part music and is one of my favorite albums. Both Nyassa and Nyasaland are in Africa, Nyassa was a Portuguese colony and Nyasaland was a British colony. North Ingermanland is Russian Territory mostly peopled by Finns that was occupied by Finland. Now part of Russia. I love the Peru stamp with the sun on it. The Romanian stamp overprinted IOVR is half of a Postal Tax stamp. The first two stamps in Russia are actually Latvian stamps printed under Russian Occupation but never issued. There is a picture and a notation in Scott. I love the Camel Post rider stamps from Sudan. Tanganyika combined with Zanzibar to form Tanzania.
It was nice to go through the stamps of all the countries. I thought they were quite substantial, even though not of high value, but I know very little about stamps! I smile when you "steal" from your own album. 😃 I LOVE to have cake for breakfast. So decadent. 🙂🍰🥧 Thanks for an interesting time spent with stamps. Take care!
I inherited the same Modern album. Same common stamps. B4 I learned about stamps, I anticipated a lot of value. Plllbbbt! The album was so yellowed and falling apart I tossed it after gutting it. If I were u, I'd skim through again/ take out what few stamps u may not have and pass the whole thing onto a beginner. Not worth the time gutting, for sure, unless you are a beginner without those stamps. Then it's exciting.
Hi Kyle, as usual, I really enjoy your presentation. I would like to propose that in the French colonies in Africa, eg the Cameroun (French spelling) there are no Jaguars, but lots of Leopards. I believe that Jaguars are found in South and Central America. John
I wonder how many people soak/ clean them as well. As a worldwide collector ( to 1959), I think I've saved years of time not doing that with all the thousands of worthless stamps I've added to my albums. Some day...if someone wants to clean them up, they can spend the time. It is amazing how much dirt comes off old stamps, though. They do look nicer...but then u come across ones with better cancelations/ in better shape and replace the ones you have. It could turn into a hassle and 1/2.
1:06:08 A.M.G. F.T.T. = "Allied Military Government - Free Territory Of Trieste" (italian definition = Governo Militare Alleato del Territorio Libero di Trieste). Age = 15 settembre 1947- 26 ottobre 1954.
Kyle, could it be that those Chinese stamps with overprints might be Japanese occupation stamps? I speak neither Chinese nor Japanese. I would check a couple of catalogs or a stamp ID app. Maybe somebody knows.
I wouldn't waste a lot of time on this album. Some interesting stamps to be sure but just too many heavy cancels and/or poor centering to be ofany value. I'd glean what I needed for my collections then sell the album. Somewhere in the 5-6% of cat would be reasonable.

Lotta good info here some of which I wasn't aware of in 70 years collecting

Ah, thanks for the correction!
@@KylesStamps Yes, they are leopards
bedding inspection on trains
GREECE they are common. Do you soak used stamps that you'd want in your albums to clean from hinges etc.?

Some say Palestine was never a country. Why then are there stamps?
