Russ - I think you are missing a huge factor. The reason why old school trainers put emphasis on wearing 14, 16 oz gloves is bc that extra weight served as resistance training to build shoulder strength and develop torque on your punches, in addition to safety. Then when you switch to lighter gloves you can practice speed and explosion in preparation for a fight. The problem with today's gloves is that synthetic material is light and aero dynamic that you don't feel the weight. If you are not fighting then I would agree that a focus on cushioning is more important, but if you compete then nothing beats a good pair of heavy 16 oz gloves to get you ready....
He is right. To put it simply, you can use any weight glove to train as long as you feel comfortable, and in sparring you wear one that is nice to your sparring partners face. you might have a 14oz glove that is better than a 16oz glove, for sparring.
resistance= harder to be fast in= increase in speed and power= when you put on lower weight gloves (10,12,14, or bare knuckle) your fast as shit when you train consistently with heavy ass gloves
i was 180lbs using 10oz and never had any problems but now im like 200lbs with no fat im gonna have to have a more solid glove but i never had problems with addidas so im sticking with those guys
Oh my god, thank god i just watched this, was about to return my rival RS4 14oz sparring gloves that were due to arrive tomorrow... cause i "needed" 16oz for sparring
