It's funny to think that almost 8 years since we did this at our school holiday concert, people are still watching it, and commenting on it. I'm the 3rd from the right on the bottom row. South Kitsap High School Vocal Music Department in Port Orchard Washington.
The reason why it was allowed at a public school is precisely because a jab taken at the hypocrisy and nonsense associated with everything religion. Jesus was actually against religion and the sacerdotal class. All you need to do in order to realize that is to read the Bible. Indeed, as the great Mark Twain once said, "The best cure against Christianity is reading the Bible." He was not kidding.
I was imagining the mechanism used for a bass drum so they could flip the signs up! But in other videos you really can't see those two monks on the floor so it really does look like the pair are doing something with their feet.
Fun times. We enjoyed doing this and are excited at the number of views. We worked at this for quite a while and there was never an intention of singing it. Yes, it was done before us. In fact, another high school director sent me the list of what syllables went on each sign. Yes, it will be done again. We have mailed our costumes to other groups doing it and have enjoyed seeing their videos as well. Merry Christmas!!
This act was created and shown first in the Houston Christmas Pageant of First Baptist Church in Houston, Dr. Gerald Ray, in the mid 1980s and is featured on a Pageant tape. This is a perfect duplication. Good work, kids. Always a hoot!
Why on earth would 969 people give thumbs down on this?? God has a sense of humor, and these monks obviously are in on it. What awesome talent!! This is truly the spirit of Christmas. Makes my heart happy. I will ask for healing for those who for whatever reasons didn't feel inspiration from it.
This is the most hilarious video I've ever seen! I can only imagine the hours and hours of practice that went into this. Congratulations to these students!
i've seen this video many, many times and it never fails to make me laugh and smile. these kids and their director deserve major props for their hard work and performance. fantastic! God be praised!
Have not seen this until today but it is amazing. It also happened to be my favorite Chritmas song of all and they just made it better! Great job guys!
I watched this 4 or 5 times and was so blessed! Even sang along sometimes. Brilliant--I know that took hours of practice! I want to thank everybody involved! God bless you! Let everything that breathes sing praises to the LORD! Praise the LORD! Psalm 150:6 NLB
We sang the Hallelujah Chorus over 60 years ago for a concert in a public high school & brought the house down. The standing ovation lasted for almost 5 minutes.
This is brilliant music teaching. These kids have MEMORIZED every measure of one of the great classic compositions of all time. They will remember it all their lives. And it gets better with every listen.
This brought tears to my eyes, taking something beautiful and making it even better!! An hearing everyone in the crowd responding so warmly to it, with mistakes an all gives me hope that people can see humor in things.
This made me roar out loud with laughter! Thanks so much to all of the South Kitsap High Schoolers for such a fun, clever, and original rendition of Handel's Messiah chorus.
I love this! Every time I see it. I don't know who thought this up, but brilliant, and brilliant of high school students to get it so coordinated and cute!
My goodness, almost 9 years to the day and people are still watching this! I've watched it for years and laugh every time! Kuddoos to everyone who participated on the stage and the coordinators. Wonderfully creative! Many thanks for giving such joy to many people.
I must tell you I was thrilled because I laughed and cried. And the little guy or gal on the end---or next to the end---stole the show. What a hoot. Are you SURE this was done in a SCHOOL setting. See there is always something good to be said about not telling everything we know about a school program. BRAVO TO ALL of the teachers, students and administrators. BRAVO to the parents....who laughed and clapped and appreciated. Kudos to you all.
it is so wonderful when kids work and practice together repeatedly. Whether skits, choirs, plays, dance routines or sports teams it creates a life long appreciation for camaraderie and a tenderness for your fellow man.
Such enthusiasm! Bravo to the students whose hands proclaimed the coming of the Lord in a new and exciting way. Bless you and thanks for sharing with everyone!
This was Great... I am surprised they were able to get by with it.. Where it was quite funny, it also carries a good religious message, and this is a good thing. Keep up the good work.
This is wonderful!!!! Can't count how many times I've sung this, but never quite like the monks. Those high school kids are pretty darn creative. Nice to see....

***** I don't remember the original source, but it was a great idea.
This was done at a public high school.
Thank God there are still some that allow this!

Handel has to be smiling.......
This is one way to handle Handel. Hallelujah!
No, he wasn't.

i love this and watch it often. Very, very clever!
One of the great delights is the kid in the middle with the "and" sign. Unmoving, immobile, then springing into action. Great stuff
