      There’s a Rush documentary on Netflix called “Beyond the Lighted Stage” and it includes clips of old home movies from the guys. Alex sitting at dinner with his parents discussing why he doesn’t want to continue high school is among them. Absolutely fantastic watch as I’ve seen it about qt times.

    That’s awesome. Tool is the spiritual successor to Rush. It’s not an Apples to Apples comparison, but Rush pushed the boundaries of prog/rock/metal back in the 70’s and 80’s, and Tool continued to push in the late 90’s and 00’s.
    Also, today, a Mid-concert Danny Carey drum solo is the closest thing we can get to a Niel Peart mid-concert drum solo (RIP). And Danny is carrying that torch well!
    So happy to see this!

    Tool’s ongoing fall tour recently took them to Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena, and for the occasion the prog heroes called upon Canadian native Alex Lifeson to help them through a set-closing performance of Jambi.
    No doubt Lifeson seized the opportunity to take to the stage alongside Adam Jones when the chance presented itself, given the fact the Rush virtuoso has repeatedly spoken of his admiration for the Silverburst Les Paul-wielding mastermind - and Tool - in the past.

      Adam Jones doesn’t get the recognition that he deserves. He doesn’t do the guitar solo, but the only other guitar player who lays down a sound that is essential to the song is the edge.. U2 aren’t my favorite band,but he has a similar role. Jones and chancellor are tremendous… and you add the rhythmic subtlety and thunderous drumming of D Carey and you’ve got a powerful sound. Not much I need to say about A lifeson…one of my favorite guitarists in my favorite band.

      Carey is probably capable of doing do, but I would personally give the nod to either Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater or Gavin Harrison of Porcupine Tree.

    • @ENIGMVTIK
      @ENIGMVTIK 7 месяцев назад

      @@byrondean Not attacking what you said or anything, but personally, I find even the notion of Ged and Al touring under the Rush name with anyone other than Neil offensive. Besides which, I've heard all those guys (except Gavin) cover Rush tunes, and their styles just don't gel. Although, the one-off stuff-tributes and such-are always fun to watch, I think the fans' last memory of them being with a different drummer for a stretch of dates wouldn't sit right at all.

    • @byrondean
      @byrondean 7 месяцев назад +1

      @ENIGMVTIK
      It's fair to feel that way, because that's how I currently feel about "AIC" with William Duvall.
      To me, AIC isn't AIC without Layne Staley, but I'm also not a member of the band, and yet they chose to continue under that name as they have that exclusive right.
      Same deal with Geddy and Alex.
      Neil Peart will never, ever be replaced, but if touring under the Rush moniker means I might possibly get to see Alex and Geddy play live again, who am I to say no to that?
      Besides, I don't really think they will ever really fully tour again, considering that Lifeson has mentioned that his arthritis is progressively getting worse.

      Tell me you don't get the tune without saying "I don't get the tune". Jambi is a masterpiece of lyric, rhythm with a big swinging bass line and a tight guitar tone holing down a groove and taking a pretty cool solo, even if it's not Van Halen (as if everything needs to be). It's an awesome tune and very much what Tool does generally. Rush has been aping this thing with tunes like Time and Motion (that shit is 25 years ago now) and Spindrift because they're into what Tool does.

      I wasn't saying anything negative about the song. I love tool. I just think they should have given him a song with some chord changes to where he could maybe do an extended solo over. Hell, even do an instrumental Rush song. I'm sure the rest of the band could keep up. @@colinburroughs9871

    Know what would be good? Rush songs sung by somebody who is not Geddy Lee, someone with a normal voice. Entire albums could be made listenable, they could call it Rush DeGeddyed.
