@@justaname2422 I saw Derek and Trey. I think I missed Billy. Checking it out. Just to expand more, when I saw him in St Louis, he started the show with a Nelly cover jam. Talks about Charlie Parker and plays with tool. Coolest guy in the world.
Don’t forget the guy recording this was risking being thrown out of this show with no warning. Tool doesn’t play with cell phones at shows. The guy that recorded this is a legend
About 10 or 11 years ago I was watching Billy play in the living room of a Bed and Breakfast in Little Lake, MI. There were maybe two dozen people there at most.
Wow starting at the top good work! you’ll compare a lot of bands to this show and you’ll grow to appreciate tool even more lol. On a good night they’re the best live rock band in the world and I’ve seen em all.
Lucky kid. My first show was disturbed and mudvayne with two lesser known opening acts in like 2001....Some dude let me hit a laced joint during Mudvayne and I passed out and had to be carried out, I watched Disturbed from the sideline and a security guard gave me his beer I must have been like 15
Ok so I feel a tad guilty watching this, as Tool are neurotic about recordings…buuuuuut… when I was in my 20’s I played Tool for my dad, when he was driving me back to school. He rocked out. Amazing memory. Now, my dad is in LOVE with Billy Strings. So when I forward this video to him, our past selves and our currents selves get a rad bonding moment again. Also, this man will always have one of the best singing voices in the world.🎉
Nah don’t feel guilty. Some people will only get to experience it through this way. I could be wrong but I feel like they probably don’t care as much now about recordings. When they first made that rule, it had been years since they released an album, brand new tour and new songs, and off the cusp of Covid 19 / quarantine it was just a wild time. I feel like by now, the mysticism of the new release/ new songs has settled enough that people should just be allowed to record. But then again, look at me being entitled lol. ✌️
What?! Billy was playing with Tool?! I caught Billy’s show the night before and it was INCREDIBLE! I was wishing I had TOOL tickets as well. Both are my favorite! Thanks for posting this
I love watching from 3:55. Billy's doing the amazing "Cliff Burton Headbanging", that only Cliff in Metallica was known for (RIP Cliff!). Then a great solo, followed by the very cool dual leads!👍💯🔥🔥🔥🎶✌️
MONUMENTAL. So glad to see other amazing artists appreciate and contribute to Tool's music, and get to take part in it. I loved the harmonizing with Adam after Adam's part!!!
Just when I thought it wasn't possible to like either Tool or Billy Strings more than I already do, I get to see them both together onstage! Incredible!🤩
Watching this as a huge fan of both Billy and how far he has come, and of course Tool. Every hair is standing up watching this, bloody hell!! Cheers boys!!
@@mattgannon I was there. Maynard introduced him. Pretty brief intro. I had also seen Billy Strings the previous night. It was a great two days of concerts!
I love that you took the risk of getting kicked out of a TOOL show, to get this video of Billy!! Thanks so much! I would have died if I was there🖤 Two of my favs on one stage!!
@LSUOdyssey did they ever introduce him or say anything? Curious. Goddamn I'm jealous btw. Seen tool live once. Loved them since high school. Saw Billy live this weekend
I was at this show, first time seeing tool. I’ve been listening to them since they released there first CD but I’ve never been able to make it to one of there shows until this one. I’d have to say it was the best concert I’ve been to.
I have to wonder how many people at this show knew who Billy was. Loved Tool since the beginning and if I was there?! I’d have lost my ever loving Gen X mind!
The crowd must have all been sedated to have sat there so calmly while witnessing this. Also hats off to Adam for yielding the stage a bit. And Danny's little improvisations in response to Billy's different guitar solo are nice.
I went to this concert tbh tickets were expensive as hell but it was worth seeing Billy play with tool was a surprise the whole concert was awesome though
THIS IS WHAT IVE BEEN WONDERING ABOUT FOR 15 FUCKING YEARS! how would tool sound with a lead guitarist! insane! thank you for filming the whole song, Legendary!
Bonnaroo 2022 Billy played right before Tool Saturday night on the same stage. He jokingly said “let me hurry tf up before Maynard comes out here and skull punts my face”
I can see them appreciating each other but wow did it surprise me to see your title. We used to wake up hung and early every Saturday morning at our band house to watch Jambi on Pee-Wee
I'm in no way a bluegrass fan, so i'd only ever heard the name Billy Strings before my dad invited me to a show of his. Let me tell you, he's so much more than a bluegrass picket live, too. There were some seriously heavy parts in his set that had me headbanging. Dude's incredible.
So tool are freaking badasses as we all know. But BMFS is currently the undeniable most wanted mofo in all of music. There r 2 lists, one containing those who have already played with him wether it be on his stage or theirs. And the second list is all those who are anxiously awaiting their turn to jam with the omnipotent BILLY MOTHER FUKIN STRINGS. And that list is long and getting longer every day. And if ya don't know it his whole band are all truly gifted musicians. The music being made lately by all sorts of musicians is top notch, I feel blessed being 62 yo and experiencing all the great classic rock then the metal years followed by realizing I'm a DEADHEAD and immersing myself in all the freaking jam bands I could and finally getting bit by the bluegrass bug. I think 1961 was a terrific year to be born if you live for MUSIC "Just saying"
imagine how all is growing up in Michigan have felt for the last 20 years. my wife used to leave early on the nights Billy played because it was always a late night. The Best Coast has the best music and i will fight anyone that says otherwise!!!
Born 70, went hair bands to a variety, Widespread, Phish, GD NYE got me to Bela Fleck got me to NGR got me to CO & 20 years of the Telluride BG fest. Now all these GD shows on the YT with video and full SBD audio, and Billy MF Strings with everybody! What a long strange trip it is!✌️
Tool doesn't let just anyone "jam". They know the raw talent & precise expertise of Billy Strings is otherworldly.
This is like the first time peanut met jelly.
:)
😂
This gave me serious FOMO!
Now i really want a cover of vicarious by billy / watch it fall by tool
Good band name idea
Who plays with Willie Nelson, Derek Trucks, and Tool? Billy doing the Lord's work
Don’t forget he’s played with Post Malone too! Side nite, Billy’s cover of AIC’s Nutshell is badass too
Also recording an album with Les Claypool
Don’t forget about him playing with Trey Anastasio! God damn Billy is incredibly talented.

The most hilarious part about it is during Billy's set at Bonnaroo Danny Carey is front rail center filming with his phone lmao
Hail the Legend!
Gotta turn that brightness all the way down!
I was there. Maynard allowed us to record their last song, Invincible 😅.

Tool was my Gateway to Jam. Where I found The Disco Biscuits. B4L!
Absolutely!
