Hi Gina, thank you so much for taking the time to review the 180 Days of Spelling and Word Study series. As the creator of these books, I want you to know I appreciate all your kind words and take your feedback seriously. I'm very excited to announce that I've started creating "kick-off" lessons for each unit and am publishing them for free on my RUclips Channel: 180 Days of Spelling & Word Study w/ Mrs. Rhoades. Each interactive lesson introduces the new word list, draws the viewer's attention to important spelling patterns, rules, and affixes, and provides kid-friendly definitions for the vocabulary. The videos are great for homeschoolers, parents looking to provide their children with a little extra support or enrichment, and classroom teachers. I hope you and your viewers enjoy the videos as much as my students do!
Hi Cassie, I’m sorry I’m just seeing your note for the first time today. I cannot speak to the “180 Days of High Frequency Words” books, as they were written by someone else. However, I did try to incorporate high frequency words into my 180 Days word lists as much as possible, so you should be covered.
This is my fourteenth year using All About Spelling! My three oldest kids have completed the program, I'm using it with three kids this year, and I have four more kids who haven't started the program yet.
That's amazing! 14 years 👏🙌 seems like you found a great fit and you definitely know what works for your kids and your family! Thank you so much for sharing Lisa ❤️
Nice find!!! My 3rd grader also needs a little extra spelling help and we’ve been bouncing around too! I’m grabbing that 180 days book. Thank you! Ps- your mani looks nice!
I liked how the old edition of TGTB teaches spelling rules but we didn’t see it till level 5 and when my twins did the new edition of level 5 we liked how it was taught!!! I feel like that wasn’t enough and too late!!! I love how my youngest is learning spelling with level K!!! We started her with the new edition!!! We already do copywork!!! I love the idea of using the summer or down time to try new curriculum!!! Gather round allows you to decide when you want to start the spelling words and how you do it!!! The 180 days book looks awesome!!!
My 3rd grade daughter has used TGTB (all old versions) levels kindergarten-3. And I would say the spelling has worked fairly okay until this year. The first unit they introduced a whole set of challenging spelling words and then she had hardly had a chance to practice those and they introduced another whole set. She was frustrated and I understand why! I haven’t figured out what to do yet. I really enjoyed seeing this comparison video. P.S. your nails are so pretty!!
Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm so glad that this video was helpful! And thank you (regarding the nails lol) I treated myself to a manicure! ❤️😍
Thanks for sharing! We have settled on logic of English, for now anyways. Our younger boys are in the foundations books and our eldest is in essentials. It's an approach to spelling where you do spelling analysis with your words every week, learning why words are spelled the way they are. Our eldest uses the online version now, and our younger 3 are using the physical books. It's definitely teacher intensive, but goes right alongside their reading lessons, so it's not overwhelmingly much. 😊
Thank you so much for this flip-through comparison! 180 Days is exactly what I’ve been looking for! I’ve done some lazy research for a spelling curriculum because TGTB isn’t enough IMO. I bought Evan Moore but something wasn’t right with that one either. I was looking for something similar to when I was in school. Thanks again
We tried BJU spelling 3 this year and it is exactly what I was looking for! Love it except for the creepy looking clay person on the front...don't know what that's all about 🤣
This was extremely helpful! I'm currently on the hunt for a good spelling curriculum for my 2nd grader, but it's hard to find videos that give a good look into what the daily expectations will be. Thank you!
We are doing Bookshark and it includes spelling. It works hand in hand with Explode the Code and it's wonderful! However, in their LA 3 it goes to Spelling You See. Thank you for sharing! I'll be researching next year.
I use TGTB LA with my kids, but for one of them we skip the spelling portion and I use Spelling U See with him. He just can’t handle spelling rules and it was stressing him out.
I'm so happy it has worked for your son! Yes spelling you see is great for that non traditional approach! ❤️ that last thing we want is our child stressed during spelling!
Very helpful! I am a naturally bad speller, and I have lots of bad memories of spelling lists, so when TGATB wasn't being enough for my daughter (new, level 4) we are going to try spelling you see 🤞
@@lifewithginab we are only 4 weeks in, but this is the first time he hasn’t fought spelling AND most importantly, hasn’t memorized just for that week and then mind dumped after! I think doing the language activities with the words has been the deciding factor. Homeschooling is such a blessing, though, that we aren’t stuck with a curriculum that doesn’t work for our child’s learning style. My kids are on different kinds of curriculums for the same subject, just because they learn differently.
@@DebBeePlus3 I love that homeschooling gives us that flexibility to choose what's best for our kids! My son has been the same and the spelling words are mastered and not memorized... I love that! ❤️ so nice when we find something that works for our kids learning style!
Thank you for sharing Gina. I am new to all of this. Which curriculum ended up working the best and how did you know what to look for to figure that out?
You are very welcome! ❤️ We have been loving 180 days of spelling! It's been the best fit for Nicholas so far! I try to watch flip through videos when deciding on curriculums and going online and checking out the actual curriculum! Spelling has definitely been a trial and error here... but it's been so great now that we have found 180 days!
Thank you for the comparison Gina Really helpful for deciding what curriculum best fits my kids they all learn differently so thank you appreciate it ❤ Just have one question when do you suggest teaching the 180 days spelling and words? After they learn to read well? Or what grade level?
@Dejenquelosninosvenganami you are so welcome! They have spelling curriculum even for level k (kindergarten) I'm sure if you go online you can see some sample pages:)
@ Thank you Gina I’ll be taking a look into this curriculum now thank you so much! You and Jady A. Have been lots of help through my first year of homeschooling! 💕🥺 still praying for you guys stay safe and warm this winter living off grid ♥️
Thanks for the review it is appreciated, did you use 180 of spelling alongside the Good and the Beautiful?, also I did notice that The Good and the Beautiful have a seperate spelling book, I was wondering if you could review that one as well?
My daughter doesn't like that type of activities either. She'd hate Even Moore spelling. Having a hard time finding something for spelling for her. Thinking AAS but we already a teacher intensive math. Worried its gonna be too much .
Do you have a favorite spelling curriculum? Let me know in the comments!💜
We're currently using Memoria Press Traditional Spelling and my daughter loves it!❤

@Mrs.Rhoades So should they also use the high frequency words book along with the spelling?
This is wonderful and makes decision of which spelling curriculum to use for my struggling spelling 9yo easy!

Thank you for this video! I plan on bulking up our spelling lessons next year when my daughter is in 2nd grade so this video was helpful!
So glad it was helpful!! Your very welcome ❤️
I hadn’t seen your video and 180 days is exactly where we landed about a month ago after our own similar spelling journey!
It's not really talked about in the homeschooling community! And it's definitely been a keeper here ❤️ hope it's been a good fit for you so far! :)

Can 180 days of Spelling be used as a standalone spelling curriculum?
@_doolee_4221 yes... at least I used it as a spelling curriculum :)
