Thanks for doing some Rush! Individually all great musicians with an amazing body of work. As far as drumming goes, Neil Peart (The Professor) was one of the finest drummers to have ever played the drums, and has influenced many that followed, including one of your favorites, Danney Carey from Tool. Please check out their live performance of Xanadu if you really want to see them at their musical peak!

  • @dantedrago7648
    @dantedrago7648 Год назад +7

I have been following you on your Tool journey, and it should be known that Danny Carey lists Neil Peart ( the drummer here from Rush, may he RIP) as one of his main influences. Known as "the professor", he is one of the best you will ever see behind the kit, as is the rest of the musicians in Rush. Geddy Lee on the bass, lead vocals, keys, and even pedals, and Alex Lifeson on the guitar. Be warned, like Tool the rabbit hole for Rush is HUGE. The more you listen, the more you will become a fan of the band. If you want to see the insane musicianship of this band, you should react to the live version of Xanadu, and the studio version of Spirit of Radio. They will blow your mind. There are many, many others to hear, but that is a good starting point to see just how good they are. Later you will discover the epic 2112, Tom Sawyer, Red Barchetta, The Trees, Big Money, New World Man, Red Sector A, Anthem, Animate, YYZ, Roll the Bones, Limelight etc. The list goes on and on. Enjoy the journey, you won't be disappointed.

Oh my God being there is so much good Rush, they were so groundbreaking and have a lot of different sounds over a lot of different years. Rest in peace Neil Peart, one of the greatest drummers ever. He died recently.
And I know what you mean about Geddy Lee's bass playing, I love his bass playing so much. He is just beyond, butall of these guys multitask like crazy. They were just a three-piece. But they brought the sound of a seven-man band. Because they could all multitask and still make it real.
For a really hard rocking vanger, to show you what they're capable of, but it still has a fantastic and positive message, check out something for nothing from side B of The Rush 2112 album from 1976. Side A is a concept album which I have heard people react to the whole thing and you pretty much have to do the whole side of the album. It's basically a play in seven chapters and it's kind of science fiction and its groundbreaking and it's wonderful and it will take you on an entire journey. But then side B is these standalone hits, and every single one of them is fire in its own way.

I saw them in my high school 1974-73 without Neil Peart on drums. Even then you knew they were taking off, one album out and they were amazing!!!

Listening to Subdivisions in the car will be great because you'll actually hear the original studio recording from 1982. There's several awesome live Rush recordings but this wasn't one of them!

Neal Peart the drummer is simply referred to as “ Master”.

I've been a huge Rush fan since the mid 70's. How so many people are new to them just blows my mind. But then again, I'm older.

They were actually broiling chicken onstage. See the brokers behind Geddy Lee? I saw them on this tour, they were mind-blowing. Amazing first Rush reaction.

Geddy is quite the multitasker. Singing, playing bass and keyboards, as well as getting the cooking and washing done, all on stage.

rush has been an inspiration for many bands, including:

Bands that weren’t in some way inspired by Rush since the 70s would probably be the shorter list. 😉

Rush were something else. All three members are at the very top of the pyramid when talking about their respective instruments.
Neil is almost undisputed in drumming circles. Geddy is one of the monsters of bass guitar. Alex humbles guitarists by his ability to fill all the space the band needs and his just broad range of styles and sounds.
Their music is like porn to musicians. When you next go for a half hour drive somewhere, put "2112" on and turn it up. That's 21 minutes and 12 seconds of something only Rush can pull off.

One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite band. Incredible, clever lyrics and a real tight sound from the band. I will say that I much prefer the studio track to this particular live performance, so you should check it out.

If you like this one you have to check out the greatest opening by Rush in Cleveland, Ohio. Getty Lee plays the bass like a lead in this one. And he and Alex, lead guitar, duel at one point. and of course Niel Peirt is arguably the greatest drummer that ever lived. These guys are the most underrated band in all of music

Your journey will be opposite of mine as a 40-year RUSH fan with 19 shows attended and 35 RUSH shirts in my closet, I only found TOOL after RUSH ended. I've followed your rock music journey through the various artists thinking when we get to RUSH And now you're here. Hopefully the recommendations that you get are sound and you stick with their better known hits until you get familiar with their style. Too often I've seen deep cuts recommended and then folks don't understand what they're listening to.
For me, I think you should listen to the first side of 2112 next to get a good feel for what RUSH is about. 🤘🏼💯
