Thanks on behalf of all button accordion players, no one anywhere has done a video like this . I have looked at hundreds of videos and this is the best repair video I have ever seen . Keep up the good work.
I bought an accordion at a pawn shop for $50. Thought I made a mistake after bringing it home and finding the keys not operating right, some won't even press down. This video gives me hope though that I can restore it back in playable condition. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.
I was given an old Italian accordion (Federini, made for Petosa accordions) by an older woman who had had it for nearly six decades and had no more use for it (if I hadn't accepted it, she was going to throw it in the town dump). After watching your video, I was able to clear out the dust and debris (was this kept in the barn for forty years?) from the reed units. Worked like a charm. Now, I have a sweet-sounding instrument to play alongside my husband, who writes songs and plays the piano. If we ever finish the composition, we'll send it your way. Your video was a great help! Thanks!
This was very helpful in showing me how to remove the reed blocks. I am trying an experiment with a Hohner GCF accordion; I'm going to try to get a "dry" sound where only one reed is sounding per note. I like this concertina-type sound very much, but this accordion does not have stops. Instead of removing the secondary reeds, I'm simply going to try blocking-off the air holes on them from the inside. Since there are so few videos about diatonic accordion repair, I am going to make a video of my experiment (I will paste a link when I do). Thank you for sharing this! It's great to have information about how to work on these awesome instruments!
Thank you for this video. I have the same problem with an accordion I bought a week ago already as used. I will tell you honestly that I was very scared and now you have calmed me down a bit. This is my first accordion, so even in this frenzy of buying I didn't notice the first time I played the equipment at the seller's :(. He said that if there is a hidden defect, you can take the instrument to him, so I hope it will be fine. Warm greetings from Poland!
Awesome, I had already figured most of it out but was stuck at fixing the inner part reed; this video gave me exactly what I need and now my G work again on my ol' Crucianelli ;) Thanks for the video and for the very usefull splitting of it allowing to easily find the part we need rather than watching it all if not needed. God bless.
Hopefully this is the same step for a full piano accordion. I have a piano key on one of the registers that will play on the push, but not the pull. A second key was like that, but worked itself out. And I have one sticking bass button that needs to be corrected and probably a few bass reeds that will need to be cleaned or "pinged" as you did here.

Great video 🙂 Just wondering if anyone could offer any help here. I am new to accordions and got a second hand one. It is similar to the one in this video, diatonic with 8 buttons on the bass side. The issue is, my two bottom buttons on the inside of the bass side seem to make the same sound on both push and pull 😶 every other button has 2 distinctly different sounds on push and pull except these two buttons. Has anyone else had this issue, and what was the cause? Badly out of tune or something else maybe?
Dear Trần Thái Bảo, I am not sure I understand the question, but the valves are made out of plastic and glued on with contact adhesive. The reeds themselves are waxed with special accordion wax. Cheers, Ole
Hi Niner Gold Rush, yes, that's normal. The high reeds- usually starting from on A5- are not ventilated. Given their small size, this is not necessary.
@@OleCarstensen oh ok awesome i was starting to get worried lol if i buy plastic reeds and they are to big can they be cut down or must the exact size be bought ?
Hi Ali, the papers on top of the reeds are called reed valves and are (nowadays) made out of plastic. Such reed valves can be bought from various different sources online. The valves are glued on individually with ordinary contact adhesive available from different brands. Cheers, Ole
I have a Weltmeister Cantu’s 4 cassoto and some keys don’t have immediate response ...if I leave it so...it maters ?i mean some keys (voices )...don’t all keys ...high keys ..
for the string or piano, i understood after a while ( years) the string would go loose and therefore the sound needs retuned. So for accordion, each reed position would be re-adjusted, to retune the sound?
Hi Joseph, this is just a way to free a block reed. The tuning needs to be done in a different way. If we ever find the time, we make a video about that too ;-)
@@OleCarstensen Hi Ole, thanks for the clarification. Or maybe you could also make a video about this. Fewer people are learning&playing accordion and therefore I assume less people would learn how to repair the instrument.
@@josephzhang1797 You are welcome. We have planned a tuning video but are too busy with repairs at the moment. As soon as we find the time, we make one ;-)
My acordion doesn’t make sound when pushing the bellow out so it’s the inner reed that’s stuck ,how do I access the inner reed to slip a piece of metal to try and fix it?
How can we adjust a reed that is vibrating just like the first 3 notes on this video......they aren't solidly vibrating. They have a sort of emptiness to them. I hope I made sense hehe I need help learning how to adjust reeds that even though the vibrato is perfecto they have that wavy effect...😑😑
Hi Manuel, I think I might have an idea what you mean by wavy sound effect...- it could well be that you need to check the response of the individual reeds and adjust them if needed. It's probably best if you contact me via my websites contact form www.accordion-doctor.com so we can exchange some more information such as pictures of the reeds to see if I can help you fix this...

Thank You very much for Demystifying this simple Accordion repair ! 😊
This is the first video I found that explains how the bellow is removed (i.e. that those pins are nails, who would have thought)
