Honestly... I think bartending would be a great way to overcome shyness/social anxiety.

@@CheckBanchero Especially if you wait tables too. Waiting tables can be even more nerve-wracking because you're putting yourself out there & you don't have a little barrier to make you feel more comfortable (the bar top).

I got my first bartending job after this course! I had the personal connection to the bar, my friend was bartending, but because I'd done all the preparation, even though the owner watched my every move over the security camera, he was super impressed! I'd memorized all the cocktails, watched the videos etc.
Confidence is everything. I used to be super shy but you just have to do everything confidently and with a strong core. I'm also a girl so I can flirt with people. When I see a couple, a guy and a girl, I flirt with the girl instead. Girls get insecure that you're hitting on their man, but they'll leave the best tips ever if you're a girl and you compliment the girl! Lol controversial but it works

Love it Danielle, so great to have you represent the Bar Tribe. I love your advice about focusing on the girl as well. Complete opposite of what some people might do. Well done.

Love this! Just bought the course bc being a bartender is something I’ve always wanted to do but was so discouraged with how much info I needed to learn and felt overwhelmed! Great tip about flirting with the girl! Can’t wait to post about finding success by landing my first bartending job! Woot woot!

I will say this, before I started my Journey as a bartender I had it very hard socializing with people because of the social anxiety I had back then, I can admit it wasn’t easy at first when I got my first job as a bartender but this job was the reason to why I became a very social person, and it happened completely naturally I never forced myself to be more social with costumers, overtime I developed some really good social skills and I’m extremely thankful for this

Just had two days of training and I’ll be at the bar by myself tomorrow. I was just having an anxiety attack then came across your video and I’m feeling much more calm and confident. Thanks man!

I would’ve never thought that you were once introverted or shy, and probably still are sometimes to this day, because you make it look so easy. but that just gives me a lot more confidence in myself that I can do the same thing. Thank you. As my dance teacher always said, fake it till you make it!

I'm an introvert and a bit shy. If there is a customer drinking alone I just say hi and smile. Say how are you exchange or how is your day/night going. But keep it short n simple if they seem more reserved. If they continue talking then continue with them.
Gladly I work in a club though. and I get there at 9. But once 10:30 comes around it usually too busy to chitchat(:

Yo! Just wanted to thanks for making this video. I'm a fairly shy person who has about not confidence and I was thrown into my first shift bartending by myself last night. 11 hour shift and had to close. A party bus literally pops in after getting my till set up. And the rest day was popping. I made mistakes of course but everything turned out well in the end. But Jesus, my stress level was rising towards the end. Point is, I had a crazy stressful first day of bartending and you have helped me alot with your advice and that quote. So thanks! You got your self a sub!

Hey Chip, glad I could help. What you (and all new bartenders) need to remember is that you can only do what you can do when the bar is packed. Keep your focus on the tasks at hand and throw the stress out. It's not helping you at all and most likely hindering you. If people are pissed for waiting, just kill them with kindness, tell them you're sorry and that you're moving as quickly as you can, and then move as quickly as you can and remove the stress. Best of luck. Keep up the good work.

Dave, I just wanted to take the time out and thank you so much for this upload! This is a bad habit of mine and you articulated this so simply and I finally saw my habits and this hit differently when I saw your take on it. Around March, I watched your Become a Bartender Interview Questions vid, and nailed a job I wanted. Unfortunately, due to Covid I was not able to get hired back, and it also had to due with my performance not being up to par. In a nutshell the place I worked at from a difficulty level from 1-10 was a 10 and my performance at best was a 7 on a good day. The pace, volume etc, were just too much for me at the time. But it was a lesson learned and I took my L.. Used Quarantine as a time to really hone in and trained really hard and studied and now locked down a head position in a nicer area that may not be as high volume in tourist ( the place was on the Vegas strip ) However the quality of customers and the tips are better where I work now so it all worked out. I also experimented with what you articulated in this video the past two weeks. and I must say the tips have been a lot more generous overall. Didn't mean to make this so lengthy but Just wanted to say thanks and share my story for others that may have experienced something similar and to heed a lesson from my experience to keep grinding no matter how bad things may look at first. So thank you again! And I appreciate all that you do and you helped me a lot.

Ironically, the best bartenders are usually a tad introverted and don't drink very much. Extraverts tend to do well at first, but it's easy for a lot of them to fall into the lifestyle of bartending. You'll last a lot longer in this business if you do your work and go home, skip the after shift parties.

Definitely appreciate this video, thank you!! On a side note... talking about being like someone else, this reminded me of the movie 'The Master of Disguise' where Pistachio is trying to become a snake charmer and uses the mantra "Become another person, become another person". Haha! Most people hate the movie but the silly humor makes me chuckle. 😂

Yep, exactly what Anthony said. More than half the bartending work-force is getting laid off right now which means spots may be open when we head into the upswing again.
