Man, I remember playing this map for the first time and, I just felt so empty. It felt like an undignified end, and that's symbolized in the ending of Primis and Ultimis. It's an ending that felt hollow the first time. But, over time, aged into a melancholic and drab finale to a whimsical story. And that's sad (but in a good way).
I remember when this map came out that radaustin made a very good note as this being the end of zombies being that it ended how it started, just you and the unending horde of zombies
My theory for why Alcatraz is still alive while Victis escapes is, while Primis and Great War Richtofen is finishing off Brutus up above, they got out moments before the souls of the pocket dimension were set free. Note, the bossfight does not immediately end once the fire staff crystal is used and Brutus still has to be killed.
I always felt bo4 was an under-rated gem. I do See the negatives with it mainly with how zombies should have gone but even now regardless of what u have to say. Blood of the dead and Tag der Toten really hit hard when you did the Easter egg. Blood with it’s ending and tag with the build up to the end followed by the ending. It hits hard.
I think it’s 100x better than the garbage we got after BO4. Regardless, it would be cool for them to circle back and make a map with the Great War. It would drive the point home that winning or losing wouldn’t matter since it would lead to an endless loop. It would definitely give more insight to Nikolai’s decision in Tag der Toten.
One of the most impactful things about Tag is right before we pick up the argarthan device, the player is allowed to walk around. Just bask in the desolate wasteland of what was once a beautiful setting. The player destroys the elements of what makes a zombies map. All through gameplay. The impact is felt that this is truly the end. That to me says a lot more than whatever pretty cinematic black ops 3 can give me. It’s not about monty, it’s not about the great war, it’s about the mode we’ve been addict to. It’s finally here, the end. And of course to cap it off with us letting Samantha and Eddie go. Just impactful stuff. This map feels like it could have been a black ops 1 map, before the monty mumbo jumbo where the story was told through gameplay and environment. In these respects, that’s what makes this map a satisfying conclusion to me.
The silence when you first walk outside the 935 base and just see the wasteland before you was something else. No zombies, no music of any kind, just pure silence. It really felt like “this is it” it was a beautiful and sad moment
Call of the Dead was always one of my favorite maps. I was put off by TDT when it first released because… I just couldn’t believe that the Aether story ended like this. Literally within the week, I started up BO4 for the first time in years and tried Tag again. Honestly, it really is a beautiful, challenging and overall fun map. I just wish they kept the fog. It was also nice to reminisce back to simpler times as I played it, back to when the biggest questions I had about the story included _”Who is Michael Rooker?”_ and _”Holy crap, you can blow up the Earth from the Moon?”_
It's a complicated sequence of events that led to the birth of Tag. Looking back I feel completely differently but at the time... my mind was boggled by the proposition of its existence.
Call of the Dead was the best map in BO1, and this map definitely didn't disappoint. I dont think it was quite as good as CotD, but it really did a lot of unique things that made it feel so different. I have come to terms with the ending as it took time to grow on me
My dude, you knocked it out of the park with each and every one of these retrospectives. This is exactly why YOU are my favorite zombies content creator. Each and every one of your points are extremely well thought out, researched, and executed perfectly. You even explain the pros/cons to the verticality concept well instead of just saying "map bad cause verticality" because that statement sounds ridiculous alone as there's maps like Mauer that tackle verticality really well Can't wait to see what future analysis you can make my dude.
4 more to go! I'm going to start on Voyage very soon! Really want to say thank you for enjoying the videos. That's all I want for you and others. It means a lot that you said something. Truly. Have a great day my friend.
I appreciate that. And I will try to cover all the games in time. I'm glad you understand me bc when I am writing my scripts, half the time, I don't know if any of what I am typing makes sense at all. Lolll.
I have covered the first two zombies maps so far on my own channel, but havent been able to work on the series due to other projects getting in the way. Seeing these has revamped my yearn to continue. Youve done such an incredible job with these videos fam.
You make the best retrospectives on zombies maps. The amount of detail and how you cover ever nook and cranny of every map is insane. Compared to others to who just half ass it, dude this is incredible.
Absolute Banger of a Video bro been really enjoying your series of BO4 map retrospectives didn’t play much of it because I just enjoyed bo3 at the time but glad I can go back and watch and understand each map really makes me wish I played these maps more anyways really enjoyed the BO4 Aether series 👏
Honestly you’re absolutely right I came in with open mind and you know what it is hard to say goodbye I don’t think they would’ve ever gotten the ideal ending for all fans for what it is they could’ve animated alpha and tag ending it would’ve hit alittle harder I feel that it was probs budget and also it was kinda like bops 2 with that type of cut scene
actually loved this map! my first map ever and first game ever was playing black ops 1 with my dad and he used to play call with his friends and i would be terrified. maybe it wasnt what everyone wanted but it sure was a beautiful and fun experience!
Call of the Dead will always be my #1 nostalgia map, so I was definitely skeptical when it Tag announced, however I love the map. I think Tag does a really good job fixing a lot of COTD's problems; being able to go the opposite direction on some ziplines, more ways to traverse from area to area through destructible paths and water tunnels, no mini-boss (I love George, but they needed to limit how often he spawned), adding the heating pack, etc. I even really like both the Easter Egg and Gauntlet for the map, having completed both more than a handful of times. I think my main issues with the map are still Victis being the last playable crew and the wonder weapons just being worse versions of previous wonder weapons. However Tag is still definitely one of the few maps I'll hop into if I ever get on BO4 and will always rank higher on my list than I know it will on most others.
@@Iobsterpeterson Getting rid of him most definitely solves a problem: it solves the problem of George being a map feature 💀💀 It doesn't matter if "the point" of George was to be annoying, a bad feature is a bad feature whether intentional or not. How you think getting rid of a feature that is both intentionally annoying and never able to be disabled solves nothing is beyond me.
@@BTWelling The fact that you lack the humility to acknowledge that your criteria for what constitutes a "bad" feature is subjective makes me think engaging with you will be a waste of my fucking time. However, for the sake of this conversation, I will believe in second first impressions. Support units are a widely recognised enemy archetype in game design. You might not like the implementation here, but that does not make it a bad feature. If you can't manage him, that's your fault, not the game's. How about you provide a *real* fuckin' solution that addresses these "flaws" in a manner that's constructive instead of the typical brainlet "mechanic bad, must remove"? 🤣
@@IobsterpetersonTediously running george to the water every 30 seconds = / = difficulty Especially in a map thats already insanely tedious past round 30.
I've always had mixed feelings on Tag, while I absolutely love the lore and story additions that this map brought, I never really liked the gameplay and it really just felt like this should've been the second to last map before a true ending with all 12 characters. Amazing video and I'm excited to see what you think of the Chaos maps!
Sad end forever. But what I can't wait for is Chaos maps. I know it's Blundell's story so we'll never see the end but it's really enthralled me recently.
My biggest issue with the end of the aether story is not the maps or even the fact it was wrapped up in 2 maps but in the way the characters met their end. I Understand that the cycle was in place for soo long because richtofen could not accept it but i think with the end of blood and richtofen dying once could have been used as a symbol of development in his character to accept death. Takeo on pricinciple would have accepted dying for the sake of the great of good and so could be said the same for dempsy. they both already pulled the plug on themselfs knowing it was for the greater of good. I think we should have gotten a map in the mist of the great war where throughout the story of the map the characters fought the final "great war" against the apothicans and Dr monty, staying behind to fight, scarficing themselfs for nikolai to prevail with the summonding key knowing that they would not come out of it but would have fought for the greater good and set things right and the ending of that map being zombie richtofen and nikolai being the only 2 remaining setting us up for tag as then it would make sense to play as victus and would have helped the community outrage at the time seeing we was not playing as the main crew for the end and the ending could have stayed the same. Just the difference in tone for how they met their end i think could have had such a drastic difference
I hate that you have to land on the heat pad boxes as many times as there are players. Especially when my friends haven’t even been to the facility up top once 😭
If I’m honest tag was probably perfect to me, the only complaints I have is the lack of being able to have multiple wonder weapons like I could understand not having the thundergun and the tundragun but not being able to have a ray gun and one of these will forever slightly piss me off
I'm almost done with IX. I'm trying to have it up in the next few days. I had a couple personal issues in Jan/Feb that messed up. My youtube upload schedule. But I'm gonna finish bo4. Then I think I'm going to do ww2 zombies next.
Honestly Tag was the best ending Treyarch could have given, especially given the state of BO4. Making something bombastic ( a la Avengers, who was also wrapping up a 10 year finale, ain’t that a coincidence) wouldn’t please everyone, and the ending they made had that element of hopeful tragedy that Zombies thrives on. That and the map was really fun to play.
A lot of people don’t like the Dark Aether story because it’s beginning was caused by the end of aether, but I personally LOVE the story and world building of Cold War. All the little Intel pieces, the tiny details, the enemy design are all just so engaging for me personally, and I cannot wait for the continuation in 2024
Thanks for this video gonna watch the first half hour then 2nd another time when im ready. Not prepared to revisit the ending, i can hear the piano theme already 😢
Dear lord imagine if someone somehow just bought the 3 game studios away from MSFT/Activision and just let them run wild. We would get incredible games again..
honestly, i think Cold War ruins the narrative of Tag. Like, personally, I'm not super big on the "rocks fall, everyone dies" reset thats needed just because that felt like it came outta nowhere to me, but ay, burning it all to the ground so theres no loose threads to wrap up is one way to go. But the whole "samantha's back, richtofens back" stuff in Cold War implicitly means that now there's just a ticking clock until the old gang rears their heads and suddenly its just Aether 2.0. If there's one thing i've learned from comic books, its that you either kill someone off and *keep* them dead, or you bring them back and risk doing the same shit over and over with different paintjobs. Saying all that, if there's one thing people, including myself at times, will ignore every criticism to love, its nostalgia.
43:36 I almost forgotten about the tribute to the late George A Romero in form of his iconic glasses near the shield buildable which one of the reasons why I play Tag Der Toten ( Day of the Dead 1985 reference.)
Great video but I have to disagree on the feeling that this is a good ending for the aether story. As someone who dropped off BO4 because of the terrible launch imagine how it felt to find out that the aether story ends with a call of the dead remake with the tranzit crew while primis and ultimis are killed off screen. It feels phoned in and doesn't have that raw hype feel that origins or revelations had as their final maps that made me wanna come back to the game. I can get behind the idea of a melancholic ending, I even think it works really well with what we got, but it feels like we just totally skipped over another act of the story to get here.
I don’t disagree with you at all when we make that entanglement. My argument in the video was an attempt (which I may have failed) at repurposing those distinctions. So instead of saying that everything fell downhill which led to a poor narrative. I am saying despite that, they still did a good job. I hadn’t played Tag in a while and when I was uncovering things, I didn’t realize just how much detail went into the map that tied into the narrative and it just doesn’t strike me as a team that phoned stuff in. But more like a team that got screwed and tried their damndest. But I may be wrong - and that’s fine. Just my gut intuition based off of the evidence I have. It’s all circumstantial in the end no matter which way you slice it. But I appreciate the conversation.
I bought BO4 this week and this and classified maps are so beautiful, haven't played a lot, just a couple of hours and so far I like the game, the only thing that I complain is that most maps are too dark.
I dont know if this moral story is international but I see it like this: They had an golden egg hen and instead of being patient and collect each golden egg at a time they killed the hen hoping to milk every possible nugget of gold... moral: they got none, why did they need to escalate the story so further and big with all of this multiverse shitt, I mean how many fcking times are we going to save the stupid multiverse? just give us more doctors and asylums and other cool settings and authentic characters like the bo1 and for me the victis (primis are so cliche, 0 flavour I mean they look cool but their voice lines are just so boring and predictable, remember when they actually made you laught/smile?) just screams wasted potential
to me nothing was good in this map, literally the most obnoxius map to ever be made. no cutscene. no original wonder weapon. such a disgusting ending that made these 10 years so sad compared to what we shouldve had
We got a long way to go. Haha. But I plan on doing it all. I really want to do infinite warfare and WW2 as well. I think there is a lot of interesting things behind the scenes there too.
They should of continued Chaos strory. I understand people were ripping on it for being not that good. I personally find it really fun to do chaos story easter eggs its like a new story and new cast of characters but sadly Chaos story is at the cliff hanger. And decided to abandon the story. I really hope they continue it because at the end of ancient evil madusa turns Alistair Rhodes to stone and poisoned scarlett leaving Diego Nicali left alive leaving shaw and bruno controlled by CHAOS. Im really hoping they continue it.
While i didn’t hate Black ops 4 i didn’t love it either, but the Zombies in that game was the last true cod zombies experience before cold war. I remember tag der toten coming out and i played that map to death to the point where i finally got diamond pistols.
It didnt have to end like this. We deserved to experience the great war. Everyone might have been a little salty if bo4 ended on a cliff hanger, but the pay off would have been amazing. To get one more banger of a map. Bigger than origins, with 8 players both victus and primis together +pablo, to use the agarthan device and sabotage the cycle at its beginning going out with a bang a big middle finger to monty and the shadowman. And with nikolai righting richtofens wrong and being honest with both crews that it was going to be a suicide mission. It would have been legendary.
The reasoning is simple, Aether is a well known narrative for COD, Activision wanted that name slapped on so it would sell more, given how they treated Sam it's all fan bait
As a standalone map, it's brilliant. The problem is due to Activision's mismanagement with Cold War, it wasn't a standalone map. It needed to be the conclusion to a decade long story. One that feels unfinished - that's where the map suffers.
Honestly, we will never truly know. There are so many mixed interpretations. I think the best person on the topic of BO4s development as a whole is @Ch0pper. I have learned a lot from him and his content. Many people have said that Treyarch always planned on making original content for aether, but SHG screwed them (myself included), and I think it's partially true (along with Activision cutting funding). But I can't understand why they launched with two Aether remakes. That was when their budget was highest and had time to polish and plan. Why would they have launched with that if they wanted to make original content? And the next logical question is then, why are DLC3/4 made bc of sacrifices of budget when Treyarch launched with remakes. It's just complicated and I have two many questions bc so many ideas clash. The only thing I do know for sure is more content for aether and chaos was supposed to be in the game and it never made it. It's a sad story tbh.
@@AfterLiveAnalysis This video was the last piece I needed to understand why we got reimaginings(story wise at least)for the Aether finale. It wouldn't have made sense to visit new locations if they were breaking the cycle. And with that I can accept the Aether ending
ngl i bought this map just so i could play as victis again i know they're not well liked, and maybe it's just my nostalgia from growing up with bo2, but i love the victis crew this poor band of misfits is thrown through so many hoops and sent through literal hell and back again, but they keep going i like all of them, and the way they were written in tag and the cutscenes in bo2 was genuinely some of my favorite character interactions in zombies, the argument in the buried cutscene, them figuring out what's going on in tag, and even samuel trying to stand up to richtofen in die rise only to be basically blackmailed by him into subservience they genuinely were great characters and i wish they could've stuck around and got a better ending since the current ending they get feels idk rushed? i already don't like the story after buried but i feel like the ending and story of bo4 leaves a really bitter taste in my mouth it feels more like primis nikolai ended up as the great evil rather than anything else, manipulating these poor people, destroying the whole multiverse, dooming countless lives to die, and to cap it all off, only leaving one world left as a supposed "safe haven", only for that too, to fail, all just to take down one being who's power level is both infinite and weakened, incredibly inconsistent by all measures, and honestly just putting the world of zombies into the most dire state it's ever been in it's like the sacrifices of ultimis, primis, and (potentially) victis were all for nothing, because in the end, the zombies and the dark aether still came back, they failed to stop it, they failed to end it, and they died for nothing
This map has aged poorly and it did not deliver on ending the Aether Storyline. I just think Bo4 development had many misteps from the beginning that it was impossible to recover
49:00 I do have to disagree here. The wunderwaffe DG funkenschutze is one of the greatest wonderweapons of all time, Numberically killing some of the largest numbers of zombies of any wonderweapon ever, while also being actually really fun to use, because while it's very strong, you also need to have good aim and train around eith a heavy weapon, which is incredibly risky on any BO4 map with super sprinters
I love your input at 35:20, whenever there is a conversation about Tag der Toten there is always bound to be someone who brings up the infamous Great War map. It’s important to note that the whole idea that this map exists is solely from community speculation and their reasoning are the Classified and Alpha Omega cutscenes. There is no actual evidence that this map existed. As we have seen many times from Treyarch, they are no stranger to alluding to one thing and then completely doing something else like with Revelations and Origins’s ending (also Tag and all the bo4 maps were hinted at in revelations ciphers so the ending was always supposed to be what it was to at least some degree). While definitely a fight with Monty would’ve been nice in giving closure to that character, I definitely feel like what they went for in Tag was the more mature and emotional approach they could’ve gone for. I’d much rather have that then the ultra fan service avengers ending that one way or another would fall flat in itself
@@DaniNyoMH well yeah, In Classified Nikolai says we are going to the Great War but as we know now he was referring to the war within them. Alpha Omega shows what the war looked like but like I said, Treyarch is no stranger for saying one thing and then doing another. Take Origins and Revelations endings. A more recent example is Perseus in Cold War, they framed Perseus as a single person when in reality it’s a group of people/an ideal. Furthermore there were no leaks that the game had a Great War map in development but we did have leaks going back to DLC 1 of Bo4 that we were going to have a cotd remake and like I said before, we also had ciphers in revelations that hinted at tag and furthermore all of bo4’s aether maps
I find it funny that many points of derision from Revelations were replicated in some fashion in Tag, and for both maps i share the same opinion, they are poorly made in various key areas and dont particularly surpass what came before, but they are both in my opinion very competently made and great semi casual maps for me, if my goal is to high round these are the maps i go for, they have enough objectives to keep me occupied, challenging but with enough tools for me to circumvent. My only complaint is how easy to god mode glitch is making public games annoying as having challenge be nulled like that is not a fun experience for me *cough* Cold War *cough*. I was with the community as well during launch thinking it was kinda lacking and didn't feel great as a conclusion to Aether, coming back to it with less hate in my eyes after CW left me with a lot more gripes and for the first time hatred and disdain than BO4 ever did (and i had gripes during its season, like went to play WW2 level of gripes) going back the sort of more melancholic feel of the Aether story set in + letting me compare how poorly CW executes its story in comparison. I overall mellowed out with BO4 and have come to enjoy it a lot more recognizing that it does offer a unique and in many ways compelling zombies experience, but feeling like it was cut short. I will not however be a Treyarc apologist in pointing out how badly the product was delivered, they had a lot of problems and that is unfortunate, but it's reached the point that they only have themselves to blame in not putting their feet down and telling Activision, "No we cant be working on 4 games fixing other's mistakes and our own". One to two mistakes/setbacks/compounding issues are forgivable, understandable even, shit happens, more than however that you are directly at fault for letting it it happen and for others to abuse you.
There's gotta be a reason why Treyarch picked Call of the Dead as the last map in the Aether storyline, and Zombies in general. It's too damn confusing.
From a business standpoint, it was due to budgetary constraints and given that Call of the Dead was already planned as a reimagined map to come to Black Ops 4 at some point From a narrative standpoint, it makes sense that this was where it all ended, since it’s where it also began. In the lore, the Tunguska Event is where Element 115 found its way to Earth, and the Siberian facility is also where Richtofen first tested on the other 3, and where he binded their souls and his own to the Elemental Shard, which directly attached all versions of Richtofen, Dempsey, Takeo, and Nikolai to the Aether, and in effect, the Paradox of the Multiverse Sorry for the mountain of text, I’m a lore nerd lol
Haha I don't use the keyboard, I just pick arbitray buttons and map it to my mouse buttons. I'll make it whatever you want it to be if I don't have it mapped to something else. You tell me the button, I'll do it.
@@AfterLiveAnalysis ahh okay so you have changed it to you mouse keys but the game just doesn't show it that's good , i didnt have a key suggestion on keyboard but it seems you already got that P.s i just subbed and are excited for you next round of content
I feel like I was a bit harsh on black ops 4, now after everything that has happened with the sad state of zombies, I think bo4 is the last true zombie’s experience. Yeah the perks are different, but there is still that sense of wonder and excitement jumping into a new map and looking up guides. I think because bo4 failed to live up to the expectations set by bo3, it really changed the zombies experience, especially without Jason blundell. Say what you want about him, he was fantastic at creating hype.
I understand they wanted to "subvert expectations", but I will never like the story changing to have Nikolai being in charge instead of Richtofen as well as just killing off all the characters except child Richtofen and Samantha. The map was just kind of alright to me, but I do think it's an improved version of Call of the Dead.
@@JulioHernandez-vi9to Well yeah Or something close to it Dude take into account i was there when this map was being hype up and they were promising big stuff Stupidly big stuff
@@notme3603 I was there too, they didn’t hype anything at all.the Great War map was never going to be a thing at all though if that’s what your referring too.Lore wise it would’ve never worked
Tag der Totoen, from the start it already is good. THe name is the opisite of the first map nacht der untoten. Afterwards the spawn room and atmosphere of the map is unbelievebly good. THe best looking zombies map of all time its so beautiful i never get tired of looking at the sunset. For gameplay i would say it is really good, verticality is not good like in die rise but in this map you dont die if you slip off of something no you take like 20 fall damage and you will move on. The bad thing about the gameplay is that the ziplines have a cooldown for no reason other to annoy you. Also a bad thing is that the hermit always takes his sweet time to give something which can be annoying, and that there are no margwas is alos sad because the bosses are pretty boring if this map just had a margwa final boss or just a heavy zombie i would be happy and this map would be a 10 instead of a 9.9. The tundragun is also an amazing wonder weapon and very usefull for the pablo challenges like kill 30 zombies with snowballs is ez with the tundra gun. The tundragun is also very fun and i would say the best version of it. The raygun is very cool because it has no pap camo so we can appreciate the red looks of it. And the music easter egg man that shit goes hard its the best music easter egg. ITS LIKE how do we make something very original and amazing for the final zombies map and cool to achieve, bc you need to use the weapons that the cotd crew used. And also the easter egg it is not that fun but is very fucking cool and very logicall. You say it doesnt make sense but it completely does. You first gain pablos trust so that he can help you. You try to find the vril vessel by listening to the apothican blood. You find it and find diffrent parts like the vril device and elemental shard that weve known for many years. We find them also very logically we overwrite the generators to open a locked door. We use a key like you said a hint to cotd and the vodka bottle. And we charge it up with the blood. After that we give it to pablo and we need to defend ourselfs. After that we have to use the machine (that can make a simple 1911 an explosive dual wielded pistol )aka the pack a punch machine to charge that device up. And the final one is the first one ever made. After that THE WHOLE MAP CHANGES COMPLETELY INTO AN ICY HELL. This is the first easter egg that completely changes the map and gameplay, it didnt throw a shitty b&w filter like mob or just the skybox like shadows. No it went from an ice yet warm day in SIberia to litteral hell.... HOW. THATS BADASS. They did so much for this easter egg and this does make sense and corolated, is it fun... not really. But is its not terrible . And the ending the cool part from the easter egg song in the background as samual talks to edward is amazing. And nikolia finishes it with a legendary quote. ALSO FAILED TO MENTION samuel talks a lot to edward and is really funny sometimes. Also the buildables are there to make every match diffrent. Your saying its bad bc if you dont build it you really penaliese yourself. But that makes me think like if you do not open things on mob of the dead. OR if you never use the afterlife on mob. I just dont agree with that take. And the golden pap is also very good and solves the biggest bo4 problem. ANd the mars easter egg is more fun and cool to me than the whole mob main easter egg. So nice video but you made this map look bad and boring which it really isnt, you failed to mention a lot of things that are all very fun.Because your blood video was very good because it showed things a lot of people didnt know but this map is the same but i feel you treeted this map diffrently. You couldve mentioned the thibgs the characters say more. The campfire song and all the quotes they have. the beauty that this map is. This, blood, ancient are all my fav maps of all time, and seeing this map kinda get backlash bc bo4 was hated on. LIKE IMAGINE BO4 WAS NOT HATED ON WE WOULDVE GOTTEN LIKE IDK 20 MAPS. Thats why i dont respect the zombies community.
Remember that the community on YT is not even 5% of the playerbase, so when bo4 flopped it flopped with those who play and never watch YT, it missed its mark on the entire playerbase. All they had do to was make it a copy of bo3 lol

I know - I have like 30 minutes of gorgeous footage that I wanted to put in - but I just couldn’t squeeze it in there.
Well said my friend.
The silence when you first walk outside the 935 base and just see the wasteland before you was something else. No zombies, no music of any kind, just pure silence. It really felt like “this is it” it was a beautiful and sad moment
Then they butcher its ending with Cold War
@SkeptixPrdxn it truly is bittersweet the way it ended. Brings a tear to my eye every time.
This whole series of videos has been one big masterpiece. Great job! I can’t wait to watch anything else you cook up
❤️ thank you my friend
I'm absolutely fried on zaza and now you pop up with a damn 1 hour video, you made my evening better

Call of the Dead was the best map in BO1, and this map definitely didn't disappoint. I dont think it was quite as good as CotD, but it really did a lot of unique things that made it feel so different. I have come to terms with the ending as it took time to grow on me
I'm so ready for an hour of this
Hahaha, I hope you enjoy it 😄
My dude, you knocked it out of the park with each and every one of these retrospectives. This is exactly why YOU are my favorite zombies content creator. Each and every one of your points are extremely well thought out, researched, and executed perfectly. You even explain the pros/cons to the verticality concept well instead of just saying "map bad cause verticality" because that statement sounds ridiculous alone as there's maps like Mauer that tackle verticality really well
Can't wait to see what future analysis you can make my dude.
You're the man Hans. Thank you. ❤
I also didn't even think ab Mauer - that's a great counter argument.

I hope you get to cover all the black ops games you are the only video ive ever seen that actually explains the story in a way that makes sense

It's definitely a great one

Victis being the final crew is a bummer for sure. I get it from a story perspective but gameplay should always trump story.
George was irritating, but that was the point. He's a support unit. Getting rid of him didn't "solve" anything.
@@IobsterpetersonTediously running george to the water every 30 seconds = / = difficulty
Especially in a map thats already insanely tedious past round 30.
I've always had mixed feelings on Tag, while I absolutely love the lore and story additions that this map brought, I never really liked the gameplay and it really just felt like this should've been the second to last map before a true ending with all 12 characters. Amazing video and I'm excited to see what you think of the Chaos maps!
It is the true ending though the story had no other direction to go to
Sad end forever.

@@AfterLiveAnalysis keep going strong man! Take your time as well, no matter how long the wait I’ll be there to watch it

I meant to say that in my gameplay block and I forgot. Yes that is a big problem.

A masterpiece. You deserve so many more views
Thank you, I really do appreciate you enjoying the content :)
Can’t wait till the next video in the series!
Another retrospective, another great video!

Enjoy it whenever you're ready. Its just as much your video as it is mine.
Feels like victis got deiced and sent to tag just a lil after richtofen came out of ice but idk
That shit you said about the pap machine being broken got me tearing up🥺😊
I know right? I had never realized it before. And when I was replaying the map for the first time... I was heart broken.
Dear lord imagine if someone somehow just bought the 3 game studios away from MSFT/Activision and just let them run wild. We would get incredible games again..
Great video really like the whole story of the how the map came to be
honestly, i think Cold War ruins the narrative of Tag.
It most certainly upends the story. But you can’t be leaking my Cold War zombies video premise like this bruv!!!! 😉🙃
Outside of Shadows of Evil, it’s the best looking map of all time. Highly underrated
43:36 I almost forgotten about the tribute to the late George A Romero in form of his iconic glasses near the shield buildable which one of the reasons why I play Tag Der Toten ( Day of the Dead 1985 reference.)
how does this not have more views what an excellent fucking video
But I appreciate the conversation.
they signs were there revelations was jsut a clusterfuck, waiting for some good and reasonable writing its not that fckin hard
I bought BO4 this week and this and classified maps are so beautiful, haven't played a lot, just a couple of hours and so far I like the game, the only thing that I complain is that most maps are too dark.
I dont know if this moral story is international but I see it like this:
They had an golden egg hen and instead of being patient and collect each golden egg at a time they killed the hen hoping to milk every possible nugget of gold... moral: they got none, why did they need to escalate the story so further and big with all of this multiverse shitt, I mean how many fcking times are we going to save the stupid multiverse? just give us more doctors and asylums and other cool settings and authentic characters like the bo1 and for me the victis (primis are so cliche, 0 flavour I mean they look cool but their voice lines are just so boring and predictable, remember when they actually made you laught/smile?) just screams wasted potential
to me nothing was good in this map, literally the most obnoxius map to ever be made. no cutscene. no original wonder weapon. such a disgusting ending that made these 10 years so sad compared to what we shouldve had
15:17 It's the same Victus. But that Telephone from Stu in Classified is believed to be from the Dark Aether not Alcatraz
The phone call I understand, but how are there still zombies in Alcatraz if we shut down the pocket dimension in this sequence of events?

W vid 🙏🏼 bo4 was very underrated and was a gem imo

The reasoning is simple, Aether is a well known narrative for COD, Activision wanted that name slapped on so it would sell more, given how they treated Sam it's all fan bait
As a standalone map, it's brilliant. The problem is due to Activision's mismanagement with Cold War, it wasn't a standalone map. It needed to be the conclusion to a decade long story. One that feels unfinished - that's where the map suffers.
Is he holding the shredder or whatever from zombies in spaceland in the thumbnail
oooooh 59 minutes of goodness cant wait :)
Wasn’t the last Aether map supposed to be Great War map but then Sledgehammer screwed Cold War?
@@AfterLiveAnalysis even he's had theories that it was either that or an Origins(which I would've loved to seen)

@@AfterLiveAnalysis This video was the last piece I needed to understand why we got reimaginings(story wise at least)for the Aether finale. It wouldn't have made sense to visit new locations if they were breaking the cycle. And with that I can accept the Aether ending
ngl i bought this map just so i could play as victis again
i know they're not well liked, and maybe it's just my nostalgia from growing up with bo2, but i love the victis crew
this poor band of misfits is thrown through so many hoops and sent through literal hell and back again, but they keep going
i like all of them, and the way they were written in tag and the cutscenes in bo2 was genuinely some of my favorite character interactions in zombies, the argument in the buried cutscene, them figuring out what's going on in tag, and even samuel trying to stand up to richtofen in die rise only to be basically blackmailed by him into subservience
they genuinely were great characters and i wish they could've stuck around and got a better ending
since the current ending they get feels
idk
rushed?
i already don't like the story after buried but i feel like the ending and story of bo4 leaves a really bitter taste in my mouth
it feels more like primis nikolai ended up as the great evil rather than anything else, manipulating these poor people, destroying the whole multiverse, dooming countless lives to die, and to cap it all off, only leaving one world left as a supposed "safe haven", only for that too, to fail, all just to take down one being who's power level is both infinite and weakened, incredibly inconsistent by all measures, and honestly just putting the world of zombies into the most dire state it's ever been in
it's like the sacrifices of ultimis, primis, and (potentially) victis were all for nothing, because in the end, the zombies and the dark aether still came back, they failed to stop it, they failed to end it, and they died for nothing
What is the intro from? Is that the end of the Easter egg?

This map has aged poorly and it did not deliver on ending the Aether Storyline. I just think Bo4 development had many misteps from the beginning that it was impossible to recover
I never got the hype behind Tag, must man it's beautifully made.

We will in time! I have a lot of these on my to do list. They're fun to make!
"Their reasoning are from the story cutscenes" lmfao
Super excited to watch this one.
I just know Im gonna like it , maybe even 2x more than I like your socks.
You gotta hike down the bottoms though
There's gotta be a reason why Treyarch picked Call of the Dead as the last map in the Aether storyline, and Zombies in general. It's too damn confusing.
From a business standpoint, it was due to budgetary constraints and given that Call of the Dead was already planned as a reimagined map to come to Black Ops 4 at some point
From a narrative standpoint, it makes sense that this was where it all ended, since it’s where it also began. In the lore, the Tunguska Event is where Element 115 found its way to Earth, and the Siberian facility is also where Richtofen first tested on the other 3, and where he binded their souls and his own to the Elemental Shard, which directly attached all versions of Richtofen, Dempsey, Takeo, and Nikolai to the Aether, and in effect, the Paradox of the Multiverse
Sorry for the mountain of text, I’m a lore nerd lol
Closing the old story was there biggest mistake, it was a great ending like, but its just not the same I miss primus
And there lies the problem your stuck on primis to accept anything new.keep in mind they had 11 years of story telling
I never knew the golden pack was the original pack a punch machine

black ops 4 is one of my personal favorite games. I love this lore
I think the change was great, richtofen had been in charge for legit the entire story, though i think it shouldve been dempsey.
I absolutely love this map but it is unplayable for me since I have a bug that if I tab out/back in, my fps is locked to < 40 fps
That happens to me too. If I set my game to windowed mode and the. Back to full screen it fixes it sometimes.

It’s the ending we deserved based on how the story was up to this point.what did you expect the Great War?
@@JulioHernandez-vi9to Well yeah
Or something close to it
Dude take into account i was there when this map was being hype up and they were promising big stuff
Stupidly big stuff
@@notme3603 I was there too, they didn’t hype anything at all.the Great War map was never going to be a thing at all though if that’s what your referring too.Lore wise it would’ve never worked
It's sad that the for the dlc suggests their was meant to be more as well.
I’m a little confused by what you mean here? Can you rephrase???
When you go into the dlc menu their is one away from two full rows of dlc, and the last box in the second row is still just a plus.
Do you plan on doing map retrospects on the old Aether maps or no?
Yeah I do but I'm planning on covering Cold War, Infinite Warfare, and WW2 zombies before going to waw - bo3
@@AfterLiveAnalysis Roger that. Looking forward to it. 👍
@@AfterLiveAnalysis You're really going to do a retrospective of every zombies experience but Vanguard's, and I'm all in for it
Tag der Totoen, from the start it already is good.
