    This very helpful. The crack I want to repair if from a tree trunk slab table top. It’s 3.5 inches thick and the crack is almost all the way through - I’m hopeful wood glue and a clamp will prevent the crack from causing the piece from breaking off.
    Thank you very much for this video - Im off to try the repair💫

    Worthwhile video. Learned something and wasn't too long. Thanks. I'd like to know more about the chisel you were using. A plane iron attached to a chunk of wood?

    Is that filler stainable? And where do you get it at?

    will this technique work for filling cracks and knots on 4x4 posts for a deck? trying to get rid of builder grade wood imperfections.

    When you say knot filler, is that not just a glue stick?

    The sawdust and PVA wood glue always work perfectly for me.

    • @grizzlygrizzle
      @grizzlygrizzle 2 года назад

      I don't use sawdust in that kind of application. I use a hypodermic syringe with a big fat needle for getting the glue into the full depth of the crack and clamp it closed. Sometimes in restoration work, a molding gets damaged, and needs to be saved. If you clean the syringe promptly, you can get maybe 20 uses from it.

    Thank you for the suggestions. I have an outdoor deck/step with peeling paint and cracks in the wood because the sprinkler was hitting it daily. I want to fill in the cracks, sand, and repaint. The wood is cedar. Should I use wood putty or your glue?

    nice video. I am wanting to touch up aging cracks in a boat's wooden daggerboard. I don't have sawdust. Can I use the filler without the dust?

    thanks for your great video, got a question, wouldn't the fix be much stronger if you warmed up the wood some how, in order to soften up the fibers and make the glue soak in better??? thanks much

    • @DesignsbyDonnie
      @DesignsbyDonnie  Год назад +1

      Thank you and yes absolutely, if you warm up the board by placing it in the sunlight for about 20 minutes the fibers will warm and the wood pores will open slightly and you will get more product packed into the cracks but for me being a entrepreneur woodworker, time is your enemy. If it’s for fun on the weekend then no sweat that’s fantastic and I would do that. But if you’re making and selling the boards then warming it up would be efficient for making money. I need quick fixes and stabilizing methods. Time = money

    Just some question . . . You used what you call a "heat gun". What is the reference for this tool.? It looks more like an industrial glue gun. Where do you get the knot filler rods?

  • @thereviewer4173

    I don’t know much about wood work, but wouldn’t it be a good idea to drill a hole at the end of the crack to prevent it from growing. That’s a method that’s used for other materials like plastic and metal.

    Just found your great channel..and was ready to subscribe....buuuut it looks like ur channel is mainly shorts...I find myself having to hit replay, replay, replay replay...well, ya get the idea..its very annoying, lol😱..my preference is just the opposite..guess I just prefer a more relaxed format, "for absorption sake"💯👍..but you are very talented n creative, for sure ✅

      I have over 60 long form videos here on my channel. I sprinkle in the shorts because you have to reach both people… short form and long form but by far my channel is mostly long form content. Just scroll past the shorts 🤷‍♂️ I hope you enjoy my channel, I put a ton of work into it.
