For example, give up drinking and your old bar buddies are bad influences. Start going to the gym, and video game couch potato friends drain your motivation to work out.

When you were describing that type of guy, sounded like you were describing George Peppard when he appeared as Jim Banacek. The TV Series from the 70's where he played an insurance investigator . So many girls in my High School days chased me because of this and being popular, but I didn’t pursue any of them during those times because I didn’t know how dating was going to work out for me, given that I didn’t drive a car and didn’t want to feel awkward about my parents bringing me to a place I would have wanted to go for a date.
