The first time my husband and I heard this song, he held my hand and cried. He had been diagnosed with terminal cancer. I sang this song to him in his last hours and days. This album got us through his journey, and has held me here since he has been gone.
So sorry to hear this. I have cancer. It is not terminal but it can't be cured. This song makes me reflect on my own mortality. I hope you find peace in your heart following your loss.
Fun fact about the masks: the first papa was a generic mass produced full coverage mask which does have name, he's called Walter Grey, but Terzo's mask was modeled after Bela Lugosi, and Copia was modeled after Vincent Price. I love these little hints of Tobias' love for film that creep into Ghost, it's fun finding these little tidbits all over the place
I'm not crying, you are! Ok ok, I admit. This song makes me cry almost every time. 😥 One of the best romantic and touching songs i ever heard. Fun fact: The music video was filmed during their last concert on the Prequelle tour that was in Mexico on Tobias 39th birthday the march third 2020 and released as a single/video one year later on Tobias 40th birthday. They never played the song that night. So it's just pictures of the crowd but their not digging the song. Don't miss out on the transformation of Cardinal Copia to Papa Emeritus lV that took place this night. Two weeks after this show Covid hit the world and everything was turned upside down. Please do Imperium and Kaisarion together 🙏
The footage from this video is from their concert in Mexico city, and you can see at the end the moment when Cardinal Copia got promoted to Emeritus IV. It was crazy (Miasma was played before that and Papa Nihil died onstage, then Cardinal got promoted whilst ABBA's Arrival was playing, and first Emeritus IV song was Con Clavi Con Dio)
Found Ghost in early 2022 and got lucky and was able to see them live in Sept. Really incredible Concert and band. You hit it right, Ghost is an experience, the whole package! Only wish i found them sooner!
In this you actually saw Papa Nihil (the first old papa) die for the first time and that's when Cardinal Copia became Papa Emeritus IV. You can see his outfit change and all with the nuns. But yes, they usually do bring back Papa Nihil to life to play that sax solo aahahaha
Life Eternal is one of my favourite Ghost songs. Every time I hear it I think of my Mum who died 13 years ago and how I'd do anything to have her back. It's very emotional. I think Prequelle is very much an album that needs listening to in order. You go from Ashes and Rats about the Plague spreading, through to the partying while you're alive and trying to deal with life with the plague right the way through to Life Eternal (which I count as beginning with the bells tolling at the end of Helvetesfonster) where a loved one dies far too soon. At present the band has 3 Ghoulettes (2 playing keyboard/synth/keytar and backing vocals, and then another who does backing vocals and can be seen with a tambourine dancing). They're all found on the right side of the stage (looking at it). There's 5 (male) Ghouls - lead and rhythm guitar (rhythm does some backing vocals too), bass, drums, and "multi ghoul/swiss (as in swiss army knife)" who does a most of the male backing vocals, acoustic/electric guitar and dances with his tambourine. I think he's also the Ghoul who plays Papa Nihil live and does the sax solo (miming).
I always get emotional when listening to this song. It's so beautiful. The last sentence: If you have life eternal, makes the song gives the song so different meaning to me. Sometimes I can't even hold tears because I remember all the dead loved ones and pets. I love your reactions. Isn't it kinda sad that you have only one viral studioalbum left? You also have to react to the covers: Here comes the sun If you have ghosts Crucified Waiting for the night Nocturnal me I believe Missionary man Bible It's a sin Enter sandman One more song you could react to is the cover of Sympathy for the devil. It's actually played by Hellacopters and singed by Tobias Forge.
They are great live. I discovered them about a month before they played in Long Island in 2022, which I picked up tickets and drove about 4 hours to see them. Didn't regret it at all. I will be seeing them again when they come back to the US. Wonderful stage show, the Ghouls are a blast live!
Always emotional with this song 👌 such a great fan tribute video.. we are a great beautiful community! Love you all Ghost fans! From Québec Canada 🇲🇶🇨🇦🤟
This is so good but you should take a listen to the BBC session from 2018, the vocals by Tobias, swiss ghoul and one of the ghoulettes together on this song is magical. I really wish Tobias would start using swiss and the ghoulettes on the albums, their backup vocals take the songs to a whole new level imo.
You said it - Ghost doesn't have a weak album, at least not in my opinion. I can listen to any of their albums front to back, and not skip a single song, and there aren't many bands that I can do that with. Maybe 70's Queen, 80's Metallica, Cure, and Skinny Puppy... Ghost are the whole package, and Tobias is a brilliant songwriter and mastermind. So glad that you've been making these videos, and letting us all have the experience again with you! Now you just need to get to a Ritual - the live experience is unbelievable.
The album that made me fall in love with Ghost is next. Granted, it's not my favorite Ghost album but it has my favorite opening & closing tracks & a bunch of great tracks in-between.
yesss, impera next!! i really wish and also recommend that you listen to the studio version Kaisarion, although its just as cool live and they have a live version of it as part of their album release party stream on their official channel, i just like the studio version a lot better. the mixing on Impera is also unbelievable so thats another reason to listen to the album version XD but yeah just like with the other albums, Imperium and Kaisarion bleeds into each other just like Ashes and Rats or Infestissumam and Per Aspera
2:53 ikr! his voice is so unique or idk what better word to say describe his vocals, specially when they do this kind of song. Darkness at the heart of my love and Bible are some of Ghost songs that showcases his vocals!
Both of those keyboard players are Ghoulettes, and their masks have more hair and slightly different features than the male Ghoul masks. The taller, thinner ghoulette is usually the one who does the wicked keytar solos, and the shorter, thicker one does amazing backing vocals - I've checked out her solo work, and her voice is stunning. There's a third Ghoulette now, who does mainly backing vocals, percussion, and some fierce dancing. After looking in her background, it looks like Tobias recruited her from Broadway, which makes total sense for a gig like Ghost, since you want someone with a voice, moves, and serious stage presence, who doesn't have a problem wearing less-than-comfortable, sweaty costumes and masks on stage every night!
What you said, re-mentioning that this album was supposed to be about the plague and saying that it felt like it reached a “zen moment” at the end, made me realize that the whole album really is a perfect reflection of a more deadly plague. I mean, if the plague had killed everyone. Looking at it through that lens, it makes sense that it starts out angry when the plague is raging and then becomes peaceful after the plague has run its course. The absence of life is peace.
I told my wife if I go before her, I want this song played at my funeral (or memorial, or whatever). I really like your assessment of the general vibe of the album, it really makes sense and I think you're pretty spot on. Don't worry about the length of this reaction - you talked about not just this track, but the album as a whole, which definitely justifies it being longer. As others have said, Imperium as an opening track is a short instrumental that leads into Kaisarion, so if you can do them together, that would be awesome. If you're leary of getting blocked, at least listen to Imperium before recording for Kaisarion so you get the transition - it's definitely worth it. Can't wait to see it, either way! 🤘
Now comes THE Album, some of the songs in Impera are... A grower, first time you may not like it as much but over time... I speak for my own experience, I've grown addicted to all tracks on Impera.
it would be so cool if you reacted to the lore chapters on Ghost's channel after you get through the Impera album and the covers. The chapters aren't very long so maybe you could do 2 or 3 chapters per video. just saying it would give you some insight into the lore and would also be entertaining for us fans to see your reaction. some if not all of the chapters have some really funny moments in them, and some crutial information to understanding the lore fully :)
For the Prequel tour (A Pale Tour Named Death) - they had Ghoulettes on keyboard and backing vocals. Papa Nihl was "killed" at the end of the Prequel Tour. For the Impera tour, Papa Nihl is brought back to life for a solo, but then unceremoniously stuffed back into his coffin for the next date. They obviously have fun with this.
Im really enjoying these reviews, and you are doing a hell of a job letting your personality shine through👌 Get ready to get your taints tickled, because Impera will knock you off your feet, with the songwriting and production value. Best songs on that album imo.. All of them 🤪
Hope you feel better man, nobody likes being sick. If you ever get the chance you have to go see them live. Just a heads up for the next album as some others have said, Imperium is an intro that bleeds in Kaisarion
studio version is all tobias, always be... of course beside choir part. its proven on the next album first song, Kaisairon you mention you minor key on every ghost song, Kaisairon will be on major key
Question up front, exposition on Ghost lore to follow: Will you be stopping by Seven Inches of Satanic Panic (two songs) before continuing to Impera? You've already done Kiss the Go-Goat, but I don't think you've touched Mary on a Cross, which now has an official live version on their channel (a real performance too, unlike the video in this episode.) That live video was primarily thrown together to likely capitalize on the TikTok hype they were experiencing at the time as the song was going viral there. My personal recommendation would be to hit that before moving to Impera, but really there's no wrong way to do it. Anyway, a bit of a 'key' lore moment in that video. It was Papa III for Meliora, and then Cardinal Copia took over with Prequelle (took over as all three of the prior Papas were murdered.) Towards the end of this video, you see the sisters surround the Cardinal in his suit and hat, then when they reveal him, he's dressed in pope attire, as the Cardinal has been promoted as Papa IV. That even happened on the final tour of that particular concert, and was shortly before covid first hit. So as fans, we had to 'wait' a prolonged time before he could take the stage officially as Papa IV as it finally happened at the start of 2022. I'm a little shaky on my lore, but I think Copia/IV is the only one to survive for a second album. The clock is ticking very monstrously for him. Enjoy him while he lasts, haha, I'd be surprised if he makes it to a third.
@@xravyx5723 Oh, lol, I missed that somehow then. I even tried searching on his videos to verify that before hand. I'll take most of the blame on that haha, but RUclips's search engine kinda sucks, which is crazy considering who owns them.
I fell in love with Copia and I love little rat man so much, I know I will probably cry when he gets replaced knowing there's little chance for Ghost to come to my or near my country to see him live. (but if you think about the lore there's little complications going forward unless there's more revivals... We'll have to wait and see)
Its most likely jutty taylor "swiss" singing the backups. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but that's his right hand man when it comes to the melody. Aside from Papa Swiss is an absolute dream being
EDIT. This is where Papa Nihil dies. The Impera and Re-Impera tour he is brought back to life for the sax solo. Papa Nihil was brought back....he's father of I, II, III. When the sister's of sin come up and surround Cardinal Copia and gets promoted to Papa IV
it's been really cool to see you go through this album! honestly i feel like i'm in a minority of people when i say that some of their best tracks are their instrumentals and it's been nice to see someone else praise them. hell, genesis is still one of my favorite songs. now that you're gonna go through impera, i wanted to give a heads up regarding hunter's moon. it was made for the movie halloween kills and the film version is actually kinda different where they pull some sick effects in the instrumental for the chorus. both versions are good but that one's my personal favorite. then again, they made a music video for the album version. which one are you gonna do? there's no youtuber that i can find that did the film version
The last part of that video is when Cardinal Copia was ...promoted?...elevated?... to the current Papa Emeritus IV. Tobias is nothing if not a showman. I can't WAIT until you dig into the lore.

I've heard their live shows are better than studio. I found this band barely 3 mos ago. Way too late to see a "ritual "....I'll go to Vegas to see this show. Seriously!!!
There is a video on Ghost's channel with a live performance (Live from the Ministry) of several of the songs from Impera. It's good but I really hope that you react to the studio version because it is better.

That's cool trivia. I didn't know that.
