Wanna know some shit. So the K03s, the one you removed, actually has a larger compressor wheel than the K04! The only reason the K04 is superior, is due to it having a larger hot side/turbine wheel than the K03s. People actually take the larger compressor wheel of a K03s, and attach it onto the larger K04 turbine housing. That’s pretty much what a frankenturbo is.
How's it going. I just got done with new piston and rings, sent the head out for a rebuild on my 2012 audi a4 quattro 2.0 and I was thinking about upgrading to the k04 since the turbo didn't really work right anyway. What is your opinion on brand and what else will I need to complete? Turbo, tune etc. ?
Thanks for the video, I have to change the turbo, the injectors and the fuel pump on my 1.8T A4 B7 then drive 250 miles in one day tomorrow, so I guess... Wish me luck.
@@seanmcsharry2004 Broke one of the bolts in the old turbo, so I had to go buy a new one at the hardware store which was a bit longer. Cut it off, trimmed it, installed new turbo, found out there are no studs on the new turbo to fit the catalytic converter, tried with bolts, did not work because the cat did not line up perfectly (I had the car on jackstands and couldn't remove the exhaust). Found old BMW M52 head bolts, cut them, trimmed them into studs, worked beautifully. Arrived home at 4am. Then the ones who did the E85 tune with the new turbo told me the wastegate on the new one is impossible to deal with (opens and closes brutally and randomly). Managed to change the wastegate for the old one WITHOUT REMOVING THE TURBO, got scars everywhere on my hands. But now it works. Went from 163hp to 210hp and 250 to 350Nm (don't know how much that is in lbs.ft), for a front-wheel drive daily driver it's okay now. Would I do it again ? Well... I would've changed the wastegate when I had the chance that's for sure.
@@French20cent Wow that seems like a whole ordeal 🤣 glad it worked out in the end though makes me second guess whether I want to go through it. What air intake are you running?
@@seanmcsharry2004 Honestly like he said in the video, it's not that bad, I didn't even have to remove the intake to change the wastegate (you have to when you change the turbo though). If you get a Maxspeedingrods or even a knock-off Maxspeedingrods (maybe it's what I got, don't know), check the wastegate, if it's gold and has a crappy white seal where the shaft runs through, change it to the one you have on the stock turbo. Also you'll have to source studs for the catalytic converter, you can get away with bolts if you can remove the rest of the exhaust and have more wiggle room with the cat, but I didn't. I have stock air intake and stock exhaust, it's a daily, I don't want to mess with vacuum hoses, filter maintenance and such (also the factory one does the job just fine).
A RECENT VIDEO. I’m ordering a techtonics tubing DP to fix my shitty custom exhaust shot DP and also while I’m at it I’m going to order a Stigan K04. A lot of guys have had good luck with it, and they have I think a 2 year unlimited mile warranty.
You can run it with just the k04 until you get a tune. But honestly its not gonna run the best. You will need a tune, bigger injectors and more than likely high flow cat/cat delete.
Quick question bro I just finished my k04 install that I got from ebay and I just got the k04 upgrade tune but now I got overboost engine code. Any advice? Thanks in advance

The K03s compressor wheel is only bigger by like 3-4mm or something. Nothing crazy
