Update The Name of the cafe is Le Grand Café de Lyon à Nice : hey guys thanks for watching this video I just want to make it abundantly clear I had a wonderful time in Nice France I think it's a great place to stay to explore the South of France there are so many beautiful towns surrounding the area and with Nice inexpensive hotels and restaurants I think it's a great place to stay unfortunately on my last day I had to deal with the incompetence of the restaurant I talk about in this video. I believe everything happens for a reason and perhaps my experience can help yours, let me know if the information I provided in this video was helpful thanks for watching and hopefully I see you in the next video

Hey Ace, I’m a white female from England, and I’ve noticed when traveling in France some of the staff at various cafes & restaurants seem to think having a somewhat arrogant, borderline rude attitude towards customers is normal. This attitude intensifies if the customers are foreign and don’t at least attempt to communicate in French. Even in international tourist areas, they seem to resent that English is the international language, so it’s best to learn some basic French to communicate with, and if they’re still rude after that, well, they’re just rude & don’t deserve your custom! Happy Travels! 💫

I said hello to the staff and they didn't reply to me and just continued do their things. Even one of the staff member sit down in from of me at the desk and didn't talk to me and was just staying there taking a rest.

Ok, there is one thing tourists and also many french get very wrong. This is NOT a restaurant. Those are "Cafés" or "Bistro(t)". While some could argue they are the same, which they are in terms of the service they provide, they are not in terms of their orientations. A restaurant, focuses on cooking and serving food, while Bistros, are establishments for drinking first, having a snack second, and only in modern times did they start offering food "the way" restaurants do. Now, some Bistros and cafés might have great food, but as a parisian, my friends and I avoided them, because since their focus is not 100% on food, and since they often occupy great spots (angle of streets, large floor print, classic ancient building/decoration), a lot of them focused only on the bottom line, without the necessary respect for the culinary art, and just reheat pre-made industrial dishes, use abundance of frozen food and cans.

Pity you already left Ace ...there's a great rum-tasting bar run by a cool dude from Guadaloupe just near Gare Riquier, was gonna recommend you pay him a visit. Antillean rum is seriously smooth and delicious. Looking forward to get back down there. Nice can be very hit and miss. You have to know where to go. Unfortunately, its the places off the beaten track that are the best to check out and it's for that *_exact_* reason i'm loathe to disclose some of them because I respect that the local residents deserve to have some places in their city that aren't too overcrowded or mainly catering to the many tourists who come to the city. I travel to Europe mainly England and France often, and I love Saint-Tropez, Cannes France, and Monaco area’s when I go to the south of France… but Nice the 2 times I went, me and my friends were not welcomed well. I’m from the U.S. and they are from the London area’s and I can say, some of the food places and Authorities didn’t want us there. Nice city and its generationnal population are historically more used to Russian aristocracy tourism than anything else, Le grand cafe de Lyon was founded in 1890 for this type of clientele. On the Riviera, the customers who can say they are the "king" can often be actual kings, sometimes we jokingly call them the kings of oil too, these ones love to come here too. This is first and foremost an elite destination hence for the potential future regular tourist : do not be surprised if you go there and you are treated like you are trying to enter a prestigious private club with sneakers on. I will go further, it trully signifies "go away, and unless you have 5000 cash to hand out no need to leave a tip", I used quotes, I am just exposing the reality with no strings attached. I hope that helps :)

Respect is about our own system of judgement. Happy face ( sometimes not authentic) is part of American culture. French people are just being French . Not only French, other Europeans acts the same way. The won’t give you a happy face superficially. Travelling to the US, some European are perplexed about the American Happy face.
That said when you feel you have been disrespected by a French person, you answer them back with a French touch.

I used to live in Nice. Some waiter are rude, not only with tourists but with local too. The difference is french speakers can have some way to communicate their frustration without having to be loud and when you are used to those people you know how to manage them, many will then give you better service. Also as locals don't have any doubt about "is it normal or not" and you just leave if waiter is rude. I understand the foreigner frustration especially because they are not sure of what they just experienced.
