So, here we are. Four years ago I found this lesson and have been with you ever since. Coming full circle I’m finding myself having a difficult time going to your (now) shorter lessons. A withdrawal of sorts. So I have come back to enrich my scripture study once again with your incredible understanding and knowledge.

I started watching your videos during D&C when I came back to the church after 20 years. Your videos were so helpful. Now I am watching the old BOM lectures which I missed. I am finding this less formal format suits me better. I do totally honor your need to do it differently, but I am glad these videos remain. I love the Book of Mormon and read it even when out of the church. Thank You.

It’s interesting that even the Book of Mormon has a slow flow of revelation, just like life. I like the passing the baton analogy and playing hot potato. We get so busy with life and don’t realize that our closeness to the Lord becomes diluted.

Amen Brother Jared! We must continue to tap into the Living Water, Jesus Christ. My life eternally depends on it.

I recently found your Come Follow Me. It was D&C 20-22 and it was great, so I decided to find where you started and start there. I love the way you present your work and the testimony that you have. I am 73 years old, retired Union Ironworker, and for the last year I have been studying Isaiah because of what the Savior said in 3 Nephi 23:1 and what Elder Bruce R. McConkie had to say about it. Studying Isaiah in seventeen books and manuals that I have plus some online works. Not finished with that yet, up to Isaiah 59. Hopefully you will still be doing this when the Old Testament comes around again so I can get your insight on Isaiah. Anyway after watching your D&C 20-22 I prayed to god whether it would be beneficial for me to include your Come Follow Me lessons and received a very positive felling that I should. I love it and plan to catch up with your currant lesson when it happens. May God continue to bless you and your family. Robert

Thank you for filling my heart once again with the spirit that testifies to me that the Book of Mormon is true and is the word of God. I love your teaching and the time goes by so quickly as you present the wonders, explanations, and connections in this book. How spiritual! I hope that more people find your site and can feel the love that you have for God and his Son Jesus Christ. Sharing is caring.

Two thoughts came to mind when you were discussing Amaleki.
First, when you mentioned about the possible relief Nephi must have had when Amaleki wrote the things of God and focused more on the Gospel than a genealogy description. Describing this relief reminds me of the times when I come across a story with a struggling hero, who eventually succeeds and triumphs over the obstacle they encounter. This example of a happy ending or resolution of the struggle, helps creates feelings of relief and a satisfactory release of tension. This is what we're sure Nephi felt about Amaleki, after witnessing so many of the "failed" struggles and views from his posterity.
Second, when describing the receiving aspect of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Amaleki describes this as "partaking". I couldn't help but think of the analogy of the "Tree of Life", as described in Lehi's Dream.
I then thought about the "passing" of this "fruit of the Spirit" as perhaps planting a new"tree" for others to enjoy the next generation of fruit. Now obviously, the Tree of Life is God, Himself, but if we were each a tree in the vineyard, as described in Jacob chapter 5, then perhaps like natural fruit trees which need to be replaced from time to time, we plant a new tree for others to enjoy.
Or perhaps, simply, we eat a fruit from the tree and like Lehi, we invite others to partake of this precious fruit of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Thank you for this lesson! I'm an obsessive journal writer. I have stacks of journals that could probably fill their own bookshelf. During this quarantine, I've decided to finally go back and read them all. So far, it's been an interesting and somewhat uncomfortable experience reading some of my teenage journals and beyond. I've learned a lot of things about myself that I didn't want to know 😅 It's interesting to see what topics I felt were important enough to spend pages and pages on (like shallow high school drama and TV shows I liked) while recording very little about my most sacred spiritual milestones and experiences. All the while, I was thinking I was doing what I was supposed to do by "keeping a journal." But when it comes to the actual content of my journals, I was seriously missing the mark. For many years, I was more like Omni through Abinadom. This lesson has definitely reinforced the truth that I should be recording what's most important for the sake of my future posterity. It's not just about going through the motions of obedience, but having the proper "why" behind it.

I know what you mean about needing to record life's most important things, but there is even something to be said for recalling the mundane. My Mom always says that she'd love to go back and relive an "ordinary" day of young motherhood--not some special event or major holiday, just a "regular old day" to remember what life was really like. So recording high school drama and tv shows isn't all bad! It lets you know that you were normal, that life had its regular grind--but that God was still a part of it all because you were important to Him even then. Plus, it lets you know how far you've come since then.

I didn’t know about you until half way through the Doctrine and covenants so now I’m going back through your Book of Mormon videos. I just get a kick out of how much we think alike and then sometimes you point out something I straight up didn’t know. Some historical something or the meaning of a word in Hebrew that totally makes more since. I too loved elder Maxwell and thus read everything of C.S.Lewis. I remember having to have a dictionary on hand when I read Elder Maxwells books and I chuckled when you said magnum opus and I had to look it up. Anyway just thank you for all your time spent. You bring joy to this old lady.

Thank you Jared for making this video explaining the great words and teachings of Our Lord in the Book of Mormon in the purest form of the doctrine and teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ. It never gets old to hear about the great things that are in the Book of Mormon. I'm glad you brought up taking a photocopy of the savior's picture and making other puppies , you are absolutely right and a great experiment . It is nothing like the corruption and of the missing books of the Bible even phrases that have been taken out. No wonder it is so confusing to read the King James version. It just takes a lot of extra prayer and pondering which is good. You have to rely on the spirit When you pray for understanding. Sure you have to do the same with the Book of Mormon but the Book of Mormon is in our language today. I can see why those who say a Bible a Bible need needno other Bible and they stumble constantly trying to make sense out of the Bible, a stumbling block of the world that do not have to book a moment to clarify the intentions and teachings of our Lord. We would be in the same boat if we didn't have to book a Mormon. This way The Book of Mormon helps clarify the things in the Bible and helps it to make more sense, great stories and teachings in both books.

You have a special way of presenting a lesson to make it super interesting !! I never put much attention on this short book- BUT i just realized that it seems OMNI & company probably did not even had the interest to read into the writings of their forefathers and thus reflected with how little importance they have put into the writings of Nephi, Jacob and Enos.

My take on Omni, he didn’t listen and did not go back through the plates, so just did the minimum, he wrote in them. And it continued that way until the small plates were passed to Amaliki

We owe a lot to Amaron, thanks to him we know why the Lord told Mosiah to leave the land of Nephi with those who would follow him: Because He was about to destroy the Nephites!
The Book of Omni ( Book of Mormon):
4 And now I, Amaron, write the things whatsoever I write, which are few, in the book of my father.
5 Behold, it came to pass that three hundred and twenty years had passed away, and the more wicked part of the Nephites were destroyed.
6 For the Lord would not suffer, after he had led them out of the land of Jerusalem and kept and preserved them from falling into the hands of their enemies, yea, he would not suffer that the words should not be verified, which he spake unto our fathers, saying that: Inasmuch as ye will not keep my commandments ye shall not prosper in the land.
7 Wherefore, the Lord did visit them in great judgment; nevertheless, he did spare the righteous that they should not perish, but did deliver them out of the hands of their enemies.
8 And it came to pass that I did deliver the plates unto my brother Chemish.

Nephi has two plates. He may have had a genealogy in the other plates, and he did not want to duplicate it in the smaller plates

  • @joeshriver778

You could say that in that one book in the Book of Mormon, you can see the decline in the Nephites in keeping the commandments of God. Enos was mediocre, but turned himself around, his son Jarom was one who did not know what to add and maybe Omni was the best (if not the only) son to hand the scriptures to. From there, as you said, we are lucky that God at least had the others add at least something

THe sound is VERY fuzzy, and like in a tunnel, muffled is a better word, so not able to clearly hear all the words. I think that you and your crew are still in progress of building your new set. I see others giving reports on the new things being tried. This shows set up is not the best one being tried for sound. But I love the programs where ever it is being viewed from.
