    Tip set your charge limit to 100% when using a Supercharger. This way if you leave it you won't come back to find you have incurred idle fees. You don't have to wait until its 100% charged. I unplug at 70 or 80% If I set the charge limit to 80% and was late back to the charger the car could have reached that charge and I would be incurring idle fees. As it takes a long time to get to 100% from 80% I have a big safety buffer.

    The first time I used the Tesla supercharger, I didn’t realise how short the cable is and had to back up a few inches for it to reach. You just need to back up so your wheels are right against the rubber stop

      Why are EV charging stations arranged as they are? It appears that the people who sell petrol actually got something right. Yoju pull up next to the charger, plug in, and afteer charging you drive off in the same direction. No messing about with reversing. BTW, why this ridiculous epiphet "supercharger"? It is just a Level 3 rapid charger;; nothing super or special.

      @@rogerphelps9939 I think the Supercharger name is another Elon thing! Anyone who bases their car naming on “SEXY” (S3XY) obviously has some maturity issues….

    What do you do if the mobile phone network is down ?
    In Australia recently Optus went down nationwide for about 24 hours
    Do the chargers have wi-fi on them .
    How do you charge

    Tesla navigation to supercharger can be problematic, take flint in North Wales, navigation stops in middle of the main road.

    A heads-up....
    If you own an EV, & haven't renewed your car tax this month, it would be prudent to tax it TODAY.
    1st April next year EV's will be taxable. It is not retrospective, so if you re-tax it today you will enjoy 12 months free of road tax rather than the remaining months of your current tax.
    My EV was taxed in Nov last yr, I have just taxed it online today, so we now have 12 months free tax to run instead of 8 months.😁

    Personally, I always get a week worth of driving. It costs me £15 at most and £10 at least. I’m awaiting a home charger when my Freeholder gets around to fitting one.

    Thanks Dave. Have you met many wheelchair users with Teslas in the UK? Reason I ask is that the charge port being rear left seems problematic for any solo chair users as we need to fully open the drivers door and then go around the car to the other side to use a Supercharger. Have you noticed if typical ranks of Superchargers have one fully accessible bay to accommodate chair users, and if so have you noticed on your travels whether accessible bays are generally respected?

    • @davetakesiton
      @davetakesiton  6 месяцев назад +3

      Indeed I have. Also chargers are changing. For example Exeter offers loads of extra space, Walton Summit supercharger, not yet open, has the first specific disabled bay I have ever seen with Tesla and the V4s being installed everywhere give you much more flexibility with their extra long cable. Have faith change is coming but faith in society to respect those specific bays, not quite so high.

      Thanks Dave. At the moment I’m driving a Niro EV which provides some insurance against non accessible charging by (a) having the charge port front and centre and (b) allows me to call the car forwards and backwards from the key fob. So in extremis I can line up to a charger outside of the bay, get out of the car and get into my chair, wheel up to the charger and then call the car to me. It could mean I attract abuse from the able bodied while I do this, and could also mean I end up soaked to the skin while charging, but it does at least give me more options! Truth is I’d rather drive a Tesla though….

    If you have a Tesla Model 3 you will already have he informatio nregarding how to charge it. If you don't have the info you will find out PDQ. If you are not a Tesla owner this is irreelevant. In summary why bother to post this?

    Thanks for this as I am waiting to pick up my new Tesla Model 3 and have just gone through the app and set up my payment method. After adding it, I noted that it also listed Apple Pay as available. From my Kia E Niro I know the 10-80% rapid DC charging time is then about the same for the last 20%. Whereas on AC charging a 100% does not get slower than the 7.2kWh. Still don't charge fully to 100% all the time as it is better for the battery life if you live between 10% and 80%. Some cars may want a 100% charge once a month for calibration.

    • @davetakesiton
      @davetakesiton  6 месяцев назад +1

      taken the plunge then? Let me know when it arrives. Good news about ApplePay, never noticed that. Yes, I never charge to 100%, I find the last 20% just not worth it, and even overnight while I sleep I never top up to 100%; be kind to the battery and it will be kind to you

      @@carlishiggins it took me a long time to be able to buy a new car. Strange how the Model 3 is a cheaper EV than much of the competitors with similar specification and level of kit.
      The great thing is that older EV’s capable of 200 miles any weather is growing and they are getting cheaper. I spend just 10% of my old fuel bill if I make use of my 7.5 pence overnight tariff.
      This is what has helped me to buy the Tesla! £250 per month savings from my old ICE car in fuel and service.

    • @davetakesiton
      @davetakesiton  6 месяцев назад +1

      Snap, Jay. I used the savings of my previous £400 per month diesel bill to fund the finance. or most of it. I also saved around £200 per month on repairs, servicing, brake pads and discs. It is the total cost of motoring that makes the Teslas really attractive but many only look at the actual charging price. but amazing to see the Model 3 is almost the same price today as 4 years ago when I bought my Model S, which was the same price as a Model 3 new.
