Welcome to Smashing UK Productions's Top 10!
2020 Episode 20: Top 10 Cold War Films
Following on in our war series, we’re moving forward to look at the Cold War period from the late 1940s through to the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. For this list, we’re looking at films revolving around espionage, the space race and other themes during the geopolitical tensions between the Eastern and Western blocs after World War II. Also, whilst the Vietnam War was technically part of the Cold War period, we won't be looking at Vietnam War films as we’re going to focus on those in a separate list.

Apologies for the delay in getting a new video out! Unfortunately, we had to take a few weeks out to reformat our upcoming schedule due to all the cinema cancellations on behalf of the pandemic, and rearrange our videos relating to these. Thankfully everything is back underway and we are back on our weekly basis from today!
How come "Bridge of spies" didn't even make honorable mentions?!!
Great list. I’ve seen all but one. Glad you’re back 😁

I was a translator on the Moscow Hotline for three years. I used to always tell visitors to notice that we didn't look like Fail Safe and Dr Strangelove.
Fantastic list!
Your list should have included “On The Beach” (1959), with Gregory Peck, Ava Gardner and Fred Astaire. Very dark and gloomy. I didn’t sleep for few days after watching it in the early 1970s. It gives me the creeps still.
Never saw the movie, good book though.
Well, what should have been left out, then, friend?!
Thanks and fully agree with your #1, but my favourite is Fail Safe, a dramatic take on the same theme as Dr Strangelove. Tinker Tailor… has superb acting with some fine British actors. Someone added the Bedford Incident with Richard Widmark as a destroyer captain, which should be on your list.
Great List. Here is another one for the honorable mentions: Seven Days In May.
Thirteen Days, Bridge of Spies and a few more ..
This channel is a gold mine for a history enthusiast like me🔥💪
Thanks for the comment! Likewise, we love history and are looking for the films that best showcase it! :)
I used to think that I was the only one 😍
2 quite good cold war films you left out were The Bedford Incident (1965), and also The War Game (1966).
This channel is really great. Congratulations from Brazil 🎥
Thanks João!
"Threads " a British docu /drama from 1984. It was a made for TV drama. It depicted the lead up and ten years after a nuclear strike on the UK s third largest city of Sheffield. Unlike other dramas or films this will give the grim statistics and factual information throughout the 2 hour programme. This expertly researched and does not hold back .I can honestly say that if are able to watch this it will stay with you for some time after.
Say that a thousand times again: I watched it two or three years ago, and still have it in my mind's eye - it just doesn't go away, simply to put it. A must watch for all
Topaz i think should have been on your top 10!
I havent watched some of these, but I was hoping for Dr. Strangelove to be #1 I love that movie
"You can't fight here, this is the _War Room_ !"
Including The Hunt For Red October is a good choice but it's inexcusable not to make clear that it's based on Tom Clancy's novel.
The Ipcress File (1965) deserved more that just an honorable mention imo.
The Bedford Incident should be there
Is there going to be a newly updated Top 10 Vietnam war films and Modern Warfare films coming soon?
There will be yep! We're looking to do these in early 2021. Thanks for the comment!
博士の異常な愛情は何回も見れるし勉強にもなるし最高の映画!
The Good Shepherd?
Most of best films were released in 1950 - 1994
Funny that!!!
OUR WORLD WAR I FILM (Trailer): ruclips.net/video/uynu9NRYffA/видео.html
Seven days in may, came out in 1964 just like strangelove and fail safe
Ipcres file and/or funeral in Berlin should be on the list. Also the quillar memorandum
08:35
loved Len's books
#11. Firefox by Clint Eastwood.
Good list but I have to have Ice Station Zebra on there, Iron Giant can be taken off.
Threads is the reality of the actual WW3. Spoiler, no one wins. The end.
GORKY PARK WAS A GREAT MOVIE!!💖
The hunt for red October
The right stuff
Fail safe
The Russians are coming ! (1966)
History becomes a bit monotonous when there isn't an adversary. There's always got to be a few antisemitics in the system.
God i hate the third man. That music is so bad.
My list would have been much different to this.
