    Hey great video! I was wondering if you could possibly give me any tips on getting admitted to Gtown Med, its my dream school. I just finished my 1st year (going to graduate a year early). I maintained a 4.0 gpa. Im an EMT, im doing neuroscience research, and i have a ton of clinical and volunteering hours. Anything esle i can do to make sure i have the best shot possible? Im more than happy to talk via email. Thank you!!

      Hi Muhammad! Thanks so much for the comment and great question! Honestly, from what you've told me you are on an ideal path towards a med school acceptance: your GPA is amazing, you're getting research hours and volunteer hours (which Georgetown loves, especially the volunteer hours), and you have work experience as an EMT. All of these will really take you far in the admissions process. I guess there are two more things to focus on: first, do your best to get a solid MCAT score. And second, take a look at the Georgetown School of Medicine website and get a feel for what the institution's values are. Georgetown puts a major focus on Cura Personalis, which translates to "caring for the whole person". Think about how your life experiences match up with Georgetown's core values, and put that together into an amazing essay when it comes time for the app! Best of luck, I have confidence that you'll go very far :)

    I used to live in Bethesda, MD and the biggest thing that stuck out to me is that people there could be so rude! I really loved DC though (especially the Georgetown area - and Georgetown cupcakes of course) and fell in love with the university when I toured. Do you feel happy in DC? Do you have a strong sense of community with your fellow med students or is it more of a competitive vibe?

    • @yakscience4937
      @yakscience4937  4 года назад +2

      Taylor great question! I do love the Georgetown area, and ESPECIALLY Georgetown Cupcakes! I find myself super happy living in DC, and there is a very strong sense of community here. One thing that I love most about going to med school at Georgetown is the lack of competitiveness among classmates. Everyone is super collaborative, we share notes, and help each other succeed! Hope this answers your q, and best of luck on your path!

    I am currently pursing my bachelors in biomedical sciences with a minor in biology but is it true that a degree in health sciences will grant me a better opportunity in being admitted to medical school ? btw i love watching your videos!!

    • @yakscience4937
      @yakscience4937  4 года назад +2

      Hi Jennifer! Thanks for your comment, that's a great question! Overall, most medical schools don't really care what your major is as long as you've fulfilled all of their pre-med requirements (which are different for each school). The majority of accepted students happen to be science majors, but that's just because most med students pursued a science major to begin with. But it sounds like you're getting a really strong science background with your major and minor! And that will help you succeed as a medical student for sure. Thanks so much for supporting my channel, and best of luck in your studies!

    I really would love to go to Georgetown for med school. As a first year student in undergrad, how should i plan out my next 3 years of school to be a successful candidate?

    • @yakscience4937
      @yakscience4937  4 года назад +2

      Wahidur Rahman thanks for your comment! That’s a great question. In general, I’d say these are some tips that are a good recipe for success:
      1. Maintain a good GPA if possible
      2. Get involved in service opportunities
      3. Immerse yourself in science classes to see if your passion persists
      4. Get shadowing opportunities with a doctor. This is a great way to get a firsthand experience of what it’s like to be a physician
      5. Get some research in if possible (but not necessarily in your first year of undergrad, so no rush!)
      6. Get a decent MCAT score
      7. Establish good relationships with professors and mentors and (eventually) ask them for letters of recommendation
      8. Believe in yourself and your potential!

    What computer were you using for studying? Would you recommend a tablet comp like that for medical school?

    • @yakscience4937
      @yakscience4937  4 года назад

      Great question! I used both an ipad pro and macbook laptop for studying/taking notes. I found that they were both super useful in different ways. For example, the ipad pro was incredible for labeling images, drawing out pathways, etc. The macbook, on the other hand, was great for watching lectures online, fast typing, etc. Hope this helps, and best of luck on your path!
