Your enthusiasm for Come Together means so much! Thanks! I am so looking forward to teaching it at Essen 🤩 Also, we did take a zoomed out picture of the game for publishing, but for some reason it never ended up on BGG. I will get it done :)
I dreamt I was on a work Zoom call, but accidentally had this video running with the volume on. Once I realized, I tried to close the window, but there were multiple instances open all with the same video and I was having trouble fully closing them all. So all my colleagues could hear was Rahdo talking about Oathsworn. I'm in accounting.
I'm not getting any this year, as I realized from last few years that the best games filter months if not years later. instead, I will be getting some games from last 10 years
I already know about these, I already know I want them, I know I can't afford them... why do I keep watching these videos? Alas, on the wishlist they go. It's all your fault, Rahdo. (damn your insightfulness & enthusiasm!)
Thanks for these tops, great idea to separate the two categories ! I am so happy to see Federation there, I am friend with the editor and will be presenting on their stand on Friday and Saturday, so I'm guessing we will expect a lot of visit ^^
I'm not sure if I'm more excited for Atiwa or the new Caverna expansion. I'm not sure if the latter will be at Essen, but it's supposed to release roughly around the same time as the former.
@@rahdo No worries! Seeing all of these new videos about it (including Shea's) has really got me interested in backing it this time around. I let it pass by the first time, but this time I'm on board.
Interested in Sabika, Lacrimosa and Starship Captains for sure. Tiletum is a maybe. Woodcraft, Endless Winter are already on pre-order. So are Frosthaven, Twilight Inscription and Deal with the devil. ISS Vanguard is already here. Lots of great games this year. :)
@@rahdo booth number is 4D118 (in hall 4). Though it will be demoed only. But as the first ship is due to arrive in the US on OCT 10th I am confident it will be "released" this year.
OMG... 12 Rivers looks so cool, that would be top of my list to check out at Essen, of the 20 you mentioned. Second would likely be Woodcrafters, for which I really appreciated your video! The theme of Woodcrafters really drew me in initially, but I wasn't hooked by the gameplay in the video (really neat mechanisms, I just didn't 'feel' the connection to theme as much as I'd like... other than the dice manipulations, e.g. buzz saw, scrap and glue, which look really cool), so I'd be concerned actually playing it would suck me in. Others on the scroll that would definitely draw me in are GWT Argentina, Star Wars the Clone Wars, Insecta, Amsterdam, and Old London Bridge.
THANK YOU! how do you pronouce his last name and cwali, if you know! i really appreciate the help (and am very embarrassed i've said it wrong for so many years!)
@@rahdo no worries, Dutch names are tricky for English speakers! Phonetically in English his full name sounds like "corNAY vun MOREsull" . (caps for emphasis) Cwali makes as much/little sense in Dutch as it does in English. I'm guessing it's pronounced "Quali" though, as in Quality 😅
Thoughts with Ruel. Definitely hadn't heard of Federation, it looks REALLY good, thanks for the heads up on that one. Come Together looks gorgeous. Starship Captains is a MUST have for me!!! Strange New Worlds is sooooo goooood. I also assumed coop for Captains.. kind of disappointed if it isn't. UNLEASH THE MARBLES... I'm in lol Your knowledge and enthusiasm is wonderful as always, thanks os much.
I can confirm that Oak is a very good worker-placement game. It is already part of my game collection at this moment and I can advise everyone to give it a try at Spiel. But I am looking forward to Marrakesh, as according to Paul Grogan it is the best Stefan Feld ever!! In the end of this video - in the scroll - you mention that you also already played this. If so, how would you rate compared to other Feld games?
I'm going to Essen Spiel, but my top buy is Twilight Inscription. If I havent had already, it would be Oathsworn. If u like Gloomhaven, even tho is very different, u likely will advocate for it too once you get the chance to play. Did Shea told u about double use cards? ;) Some are. From your list, i agree that Revive is enticing, I'll decide on the fly
i mistakenly thought it was a different game (rise & fall) which wasn't one i was interested in. i realized this while filming the extended video, so i talked about it a bit there. :)
Hello Rahdo, from your Essen top 10 only Sansoucci is recommended as "Best at 2" according to BGG . Which are the best at two player count from them all according to you? Thank you!
sure, there have been more than a few worker placement games over the years where you upgrade your workers in various ways. the thing that made this one more interesting to me is the extra hurdle of using your upgraded workers in the right place at the right time... in most games of this ilk, once they've got the upgrade they can always use it, while here the upgrades are tied to specific thematic actions :)
Great idea to split the list. I mainly go to Spiel to try and discover new fun games. For the future my personal preference would be you would focus on games being demoed there instead of available to buy. Since this list probably also contains games being demoed I did add some to my list! Thanks!
presumably all 20 of these will be demoable at the convention since they're all new titles. i used to try to cover games that were demo-only at the convention too, but the list bgg preview list was SOOOOOO long this year i just didn't have the strength to research so many more games! :)
Oak is a really good looking game that I thought I would back on crowdfunding but after trying it multiple times with different friends on the simulator I realized it's not a whole game. It feels like an unfinished euro. Try it before you buy it.
There is picture of Joan of Arc in the rules on dlp website. And this is not a bag building... :( And I had missed the new Corné Von Moorsel! Thanks for pointing it up
chilean! d'oh! i should have looked it up before filming! thanks for the heads up! (i'll be travelling the pampas tomorrow while i film great western trail argentina live!) :)
I am not tempted by any, maybe only Atiwa. The only new game I will hunt down at Essen will be Evergreen. All others from the BGG top 50 Essen list I already either have through Kickstarter or Gamefound, I am not interested in them or they will show up at a FLGS near me shortly so why would I bring them back with me from Germany to the Netherlands. Why am I going to Essen then. Well, I will be hunting for some old games, I will be looking for war games (only Saigon 75 featured on the BGG list but there will be more), I will be looking for some great deals (last year we bought Endangered with 2 expansions and King’s Forge with 5 expansions for a great deal less), I will be looking for games from small non western publishers (South America, Asia, etc.) who might never show up at my FLGS. And I will be getting some accessories like dice, dice tower, sleeves, play mat, upgrade pieces, etc. That to me is the real essence of going to Essen. Going for the hotness makes no sense to me. I spend money on a train, hotel, food, etc to buy a game which will be available in three months in a store just a bike ride away? Not me.
Saying that there are 20 *MUST HAVE* (including ALL CAPS AND ASTERISKS) games from a single game convention makes me think that Rahdo has succumb to the need to hype as part of being a RUclips content provider. It makes me less inclined to watch his channel.
sorry to hear that. i've been doing this list every year since 2013, so it's really nothing new. and if you watched the extended video, i talked about around 150 or so games at the convention... these were the best 20 :)

that is very wise. it's not like those older titles are suddenly unworthy because new stuff came out! :)
@@rahdo Thats one difference i really like over video games.

I'm really happy to have preordered Come Together and Revive for pick up at Essen so I don't have to hurry and get them 😁
Yes! Beer and bread. Finally a good pure two-player game again.
Really looking forward to Tiletum and my order of Marrakesh and Amsterdam from Queen Games. 🤩

You had me at “RELEASE THE MARBLES”😁
I hope this one makes it to the USA!
I backed the Federation KS and I received it not too long ago and I can vouch that it's excellent.
They are doing another Kickstarter for Oathsworn in a couple of weeks. Probably no new content, but it will be available again.

The publisher that got the rights for Sanssouci is not Brazilian, is a Chilean company called Fractal Juegos.
yup, someone else pointed that out to me too. i should have double checked before starting to film! my apologies!
