I had the same problem on my Julia. I used penetrating oil instead of heat. The heat approach you use would probably be faster. After applying the penetrating oil I used a wooden dowel and hammer to tap in the stuck plunger. This freed it up, but the two linkages still rotated together since they were still stuck together at the pivot shaft. I had to apply penetrating oil at the main pivot shaft, and wedged a screwdriver between the feed dog lever and the machine base to keep it from moving. It eventually freed up while turning the handwheel. I've had the same problem with other machines, not just Necchi. Even when the plunger is disengaged, the two links can still be stuck together near their pivots.
Thank you very much for your quick response. I admit that I made a mistake in referring to the part I am searching for as a "selenoid". The part I need for find a source for is the capacitor. It is a three wire connection capacitor The information I can read on it is that it is an INCO product - CB20, 34 F/S, MF 0.14, 2X0. 0025, Vpr 3000 and I think the part number on it is MQ551QOM8QPOG though I might be reading some of the numbers incorrectly. So far as I know, that capacitor is the only thing that is wrong with it. If you know of a possible source I would be most appreciative
@ William Schroeder All right, the original capacitor is replaced by the following : Brand : Miflex Type : ksppz 10 - 2x1y2 It comes closest to the original with its specifications and works without any problems. I have equipped many machines with it. The part costs 3-5 euros and is available almost everywhere. Google search helps...
I like watching you work. Could you possibly tell me where to find the selenoid used in the Necchi Lycia 524? We have had it since 1963 and the selenoid blew up and I would like to replace it, if I can find one.
@ William Schroeder hello thanks for your interest If I understood it correctly, you are looking for the power supply unit which transfers the voltage to 160 volts alternating current. This is the operating voltage of the motor. There is also a capacitor built into the unit. do you mean this one If so, you can find a suitable replacement. The whole unit where the mains voltage is applied is not available as a spare part. We're talking about a machine built for the European market? Different technical principles apply to the US version. Would love to help, but need detailed information.
Hello, unfortunately I still couldn't unlock the button, maybe I should buy a stronger lighter as the one you used in this video.... I have a question for you, I bought a 1956 Greist buttonholer for a very good price, the item is in perfect condition and fits perfectly on the Julia, except for the foot lifter that is too long and pushes on the buttonholer, so that the foot could not properly lower. What a pity! Is there any trick to make it fit? This buttonholer looks like a real vintage masterpiece.
@ Paolo Loosening the gum can take a little longer, lots of heat and a solvent like WD-40 can help. The Julia comes with a special foot from the factory, because she can sew buttonholes fully automatically. So it makes no sense to use a device that doesn't fit properly anyway. The devices supplement functions that are not supported by the machine itself. It is certainly a beautiful thing, but it is superfluous. See : ruclips.net/video/7guSKcuR3F8/видео.html
@@necchi-pavia Yes I use the Julia foot since I was a teen! in fact this Greist is a gift for a tailor friend in Africa, I just wanted to try it on my machine too, it can't fit properly on it , but the trial was enough to understand the buttonholer is intact, because it was a real bargain and the Italian seller did not try it nor even know exactly what it was, so I feel lucky! I am sure it will be very useful for my friend. Thank you very much for the clever advices , and I will enjoy your next videos.
Hello J.A. , While looking for a Mira to buy I found a free arm for sale,I don't know what model it is,it has the color of the Lycia but it also has the gray mark 2 lever. It is a little damaged, but nothing serious I think. Now,even though my intention was to get a Mira,I would like to opt for this free arm,but before I get it I wanted to ask you if you think there is even just one aspect under which a Mira is better than a Supernova/Lycia. I mean things like stitch quality, sturdiness, ability to penetrate fabrics. Can you tell me something about this? thanks
@ M B ruclips.net/video/o5uuTji2hB4/видео.html This video shows a free arm Mira. It is very rare and was only available in the green color. The machine you're talking about can't be Mira. In addition, the type designation is on the sticker on every NECCHI. All old Necchi sew 6 layers of denim without any problems. I wish you success.
@@necchi-pavia There was a misunderstanding,I didn't mean a "free arm Mira" but a free arm Supernova/Lycia type, which has the color of Lycia(light cream),but at the same time it has the gray lever of mark 2. It also has the short base, without accessory box holder at the back. I have only seen it in pictures so I could not read the nameplate. What model of free arm Necchi (Supernova/Lycia type) do you think it is?
@@MB-lc3jf Oh I understand.... This machine is similar to the Supernova free arm in design. The machine can be classified as the first version of the Lycia. It corresponds technically to a Supernova free-arm machine without automatic. Later the design was changed to the "Lycia 522" known to us. From then on there is a plastic cam for transporting the fabric in the mechanics. So this machine has been manufactured according to the uncompromising quality of the Supernova series. If the opportunity arises you have a very good zigzag machine.... In the link below the free-arm Supernova Ultra Mark 2 (with magnifying glass and threading aid) without automatic, which is technically similar to the machine you found. ruclips.net/video/e1qwCfLLTHE/видео.html
@@necchi-pavia The machine is automatic,if you could kindly watch this video and give me advice. I also found another free arm for sale and now I am undecided between these two that you can see in the video. The first machine that is shown in the video,is the one I was telling you about that has the color of the lycia, but also has the mark 2 lever. The machines featured in the video, are exactly the ones for sale,I used the photos from the sale ad. Thank you if you can take a look at the video.
@@MB-lc3jf Ah now everything is clear. If I had a choice, I would choose the second machine. The first is supernova type. The second is the "real" Lycia with Julia's cam system. I have never seen the second machine in this form. In the first case, the connection cable is a molded part in one piece (connection to machine with 4 poles) and cannot be repaired... It is important that all accessories are included.

Should this mechanism be oiled after it is freed up?
.... Yes, I forgot to mention that, 1-2 drops are enough.... Thanks for the hint.
