Dylan Graves and Friends Surfing Ice Cold Waves in the Baltic Sea

- “Baltic.” Just the sound of that name puts a little chill along the spine, and it’s not a surprise. This is a body of water almost completely enclosed by northern Europe, and with one coast facing Sweden, you have to guess it is not trunks weather. But this strange brackish sea hides some very fun little moments, and Dylan’s been talking to friend and Swedish pro surfer Freddie Meadows about scoring it for years. It seems his chance has arrived - but then his boards and wetsuits don’t. Dylan’s forced to fall back on to the kindness of new friends, and fortunately, friendship is something Swedish people possess in large quantities. As well as a touching and almost unfathomable surf stoke, which seems born from the sea’s ruggedness. As local Henrik Alsen tells us: “That’s the thing about the Baltic, you need to be happy for everything.”

That point session at the end is way, way, way better than what I've been surfing lately. I'd paddle out in a Speedo if I could get waves like that at this point.

This is mandatory viewing for anybody who’s getting the shits with their local for not providing the waves they want. The vibe in that little surf community is absolute gold. How good to see that lady score the wave of the day and then have Dylan give that affirmation. This is beautiful

Swedens surfing reminds me of at home in the Great Lakes you’re just stoked to be in the water. Even though our conditions are so inconsistent.
As a Baltic surfer myself I can relate a lot to your community at the Great Lakes!
Yeah, hundop. Lake surfer here, my buddy drove around for 10 hours to surf waves most people in California wouldnt even walk down the street for.

Hahaha. I'm the lone lid there. I was testing a housing and saw what I thought was some local weather report happening on the shore. Weirded me out, never seen anyone else there. They called me in but I just thought "Nope"
Should have come out anyway, travelled all that way.

Years ago I suggested to Nick Carroll a series like that. An homage to those who really worship this sport by dodging rare sessions and mean conditions.
Mostly doing everything Windspelse too like windsports, foiling just to get out the most.

The Baltic is a lot like the Gulf on the Westcoast of Florida.
There are better waves around here than whats on video and in pictures.
You just have to know Where and When to go its why i respect my Baltic Brethren.
