So while Audi and the VW group beat around the bush with their f1 entry that was literally handed to them, Andretti who actually puts in the effort to make all this happen is being kicked to the side
Audi bought an existing team, (Sauber/Alpha Romeo) so it wasn't 'handed to them'. There will stil be just 10 teams and there fore won't delude the investment of the other existing teams. Andretti wants to enter as an extra 11th team on the grid. If they'd bought an existing team things would have been a lot more straight forward.
@@florisbackx1744they tried extremely hard to buy one. But no one wants to sell. Earlier in the year when Alphatauri’s future was still up in the air they offered to buy the team. It was rejected obviously but Andretti is truly doing everything he can to get his team into F1
@@florisbackx1744 Concorde agreement allows for 12 teams. If you take into consideration the dilution that means $18.1M instead of $20M per team. The dilution fund (Mafia payout) is a one time $20M. Truth be told, I'm not so sure SPA or Zandvoort can take 11 Teams due to paddock limitations.
Christian Horner criticizing Cadillac as a badging exercise is hilarious coming from the team that once had multiple engine partners on their car at the same time 😂
Red Bull has only ever been a brand company by design, putting its name on a beverage someone else invented is the best known example of many attempts to grow the "Brand", they don't actually make anything.
All a very clever ploy by Red Bull to be able to have their own engine, and not have to offer it to other teams. These loop holes have now been plugged, to ensure that only a manufacturer could enter as a new team. So I do not see how the Caddy engine could be exclusive to Andretti.
when HAAS joined there wasn't so much interest in F1. Now F1 is making tons and tons of $ and they want to split the big pile in 10. Allowing Andretti means the pile splits to 11 competitors and that's what they don't like about it.
When you only want to join after all the hard work of growing the sport has been done... then yes, its logic there are more expectations to fullfill as well. its not really comparable those 2 situations
I love Andrettis confidence in this. Doesn’t care what unreasonable hoops he has to jump through, he’ll do it. And with GM onboard to make an engine, it’s almost like F1 can’t say no without looking like a fool 😂
F1 foolish, surely not? Not accepting Andretti and GM, just shows how out of touch F1 is with race fans. It is a sport not a F*in circus. Guess why I gave up watching live races. Current F1 is a joke, and a bad one.
F1 already looks like fools for pushing away Andretti for years, when it’s obvious he could bring a lot to F1. Regardless of whether GM builds his engines, the Andretti name is synonymous with racing in America, and if they continue to blackball him like this, the billions they’re investing in these new American GPs is going to wither away if Americans don’t have one of their own to root for.
@@Kampy_ If this drags on to 2028, the new American "fans" will already be gone. The sudden new American fan interest in Formula One is a myth. He's welcom to buy into an existing team. He refuses despite having being given the opportunity. No he demands every team in F1 take less to allow him to barg in. There's another pretty good reason. If Williams, Sauber, AlphaTauri or Haas applied to enter now with the current "criteria" of F1 compared to when they did they too would be rejected because "they don't bring enough value to F1 since they're not a manufacturer"
Different dynamics now that F1 has a budget cap and is profitable. Take away the budget cap and Andretti would have a much easier time getting in, but then they'd also not want to join F1.
All those teams bought already existing teams, in other words no new slots were added to the grid. Andretti asks for a NEW SLOT. Completely different thing. With that said, Im not opposed to Andretti joining F1 at all, in fact Im all for it. Just wanted to clear up why the situation with Andretti its different.

When rumors were floating around that Porsche and even Honda getting a works team, everyone in the paddock was saying “how great it’d be for the sport!” Here we have Andretti and GM wanting to come in with their own engine, yet the teams are doing their best to block them from coming in at every turn.
Because GM and Andretti are literally the exact opposite of Honda and Porsche when it comes to racing legacy and the value of their names in the global automotive scene. GM is the definition of american car quantity over quality and mass produced garbage. They have zero fans around the world.
It's about the seriousness in their f1 proposal. That's where the backlash comes from. F1 teams know back in the mind that Honda and Porsche are not completely committed so they are welcoming them knowing there's a little possibility that they would actually join. But that's not the case with Andretti GM. Everything pretty much self explains from there on.

I agree, I think that GM knows that it will take the Andretti name to get Americans to watch. No one will care very much if the Minardi team is rebadged Cadillac.
As an F1 fan i find it ridiculous how people in F1 and even some fans are so against this. The more teams the better and this is a big team with powerhouse companies behind it. Let them in and stop being p*ssies.
When I worked in Formula One at the end of the 70s, there were so many Teams, that there was a Pre Race, for the "B", Frank Williams, to qualify. At Monaco, the last cars were left off the Grid. So Yes, there is a Point when there are TOO MANY TEAMS.
I would agree with this if there were already 10 PU manufacturers. The chance to add another PU manufacturer to the 10 current teams to me is the best outcome for the race fan.
I think GM will refuse to join if they don’t have a true American entry like Andretti to partner with. The only way any of the existing teams could convince them to partner as a works supplier if Andretti were rejected would be to move their operations to the US. Cadillac wants this for the PR, they want to be able to signal to Americans that they are part of the sole truly American entry into F1, because we all know what Haas is and it is not American. It would conversely be a PR nightmare for them if they abandoned that entry in exchange for partnering with a European based team.
GM has already publicly stated that GM will only team up with Andretti ! No Andretti no GM. BTW, remember that the F1 teams do not have a direct vote on allowing or not allowing the Andretti entry in. Liberty Media is the only yes or no vote at this point. Yes, I recognize that they can certainly push their views to Liberty Media. The other issue to discuss is the the EU laws about competition. If Liberty says no to Andretti there is a very good likelihood that Andretti/Cadillac can take F1 to court and win entry in that way.
Absolute masterclass of planning with this announcement, once the entry attempt is all known about and it seems like that’s what they’re bringing to the table, boom ‘and there’s this’ to overemphasize this aspect
Why should they have to split the revenue 11 ways and fight another team for sponsors? Entitled much, if they want in they can try to partner an existing team.
7 engines for 11 teams is crazy. With the only customer teams being Mclaren, HAAS, Alpha Tauri, and Williams. Will be interesting having only one manufacturer backed team not use their own engine

Cadillac Motorsports has a really long history, too. I remember back in the 80's you could get a custom cam ground from them for almost no matter what you had if you could send them a core.
I've seen people saying having Cadillac on the grid doesn't mean anything because they aren't from the US and that brand name doesn't mean anything to them. That's kind of a weird inverse of supposed American arrogance. Renault and Alpine aren't brands you see in the US but I'd never think they shouldn't be in F1 for that reason.
I remember it being mentioned on the 'Bring back the V10's' episode on the proposed Honda F1 team in the late 90's which would have taken the at the time 12th and final slot that other other F1 teams were disappointed it failed to materialise because it meant Toyota could now take that slot rather than having to buy out an existing team which would increase there values. This feels a bit like a modern version of that example.
the teams, who all got cost capped well below their previous budgets (for the most part), are now claiming they could go bankrupt all while collecting increasingly larger sponsorship money by virtue of the sports growth....
These teams put racing above money and a lot of them persevered through near bankruptcy to put 2 cars on the track. All that time Andretti didn't give a shit about F1. Let's drop the budget cap, Andretti will be allowed into F1 but they themselves will reject it.
Christian Horner's comment about a branding exercise really makes sense. I wish another open wheel series would come along and offer an open competition, non spec series that races on traditional tracks. Top 20 to qualify race. Cap the total budget at a very low figure but have fairly open rule book. It would eat F1's lunch. F1 has used up all the goodwill that it generated with veteran fans who remember when it was an actual competitive sport.
F1 has never been a very competitive sport. There has always been only three teams, at best, that could win a race. Most races have been won by a margin of 20 seconds or more and most teams at least 2 laps behind. Ever 7:46 since F1 began there has only been three teams and drivers a season that could win a championship.

However, they've been adding more and more spec parts and reducing the places that engineering can be applied, to the point that it's the worst of both worlds. the smaller teams are worried about loosing out on their already tiny share of the pie - so the obvious solution is to completely restructure the cash the teams get. Split it into thirds: a third is split equally across all teams; a third split based on Team points; and a third split based on end of season Team rank. Expand points down to 12th, make all sprint race grids in reverse championship order - all mixes up who gets points and makes the lower end of the driver and team championship tables more exciting.
Let's say it how it is - if F1 rejects Andretti Cadillac's bid, they will disillusion and lose a large majority of new F1 fans to a competing series such as Indycar or Nascar.
A lot of Americans, including their race fans do not know much about, or care for F1. If it takes place overseas they are not interested, or do not have access to it.
I know you're joking, but I'd genuinely like to see what happens when you shove an aluminum-block version of a NASCAR Cup car engine in something like an F1 car. @@AzathothsAlarmClock I know it wouldn't be competitive, but I also think you'd be surprised at how fast it could be. Andretti is a name that carries weight in F1 and the larger racing world. They are an organization that understands the game, unlike Haas, which has a background in machine tools. Mario won the world championship and Michael definitely feels he has something to prove. With GM backing they could rise rapidly through the ranks and upset the legacy teams’ apple carts. Right before a Las Vegas GP that will fail in one way or another (poor racing, weather, lack of audience, general rejection, etc), F1 management is put on a tough spot. Approval of the Andretti entry might help to save face.
You both have brought up the exact arguments I've been saying. The established teams are scared of another top-notch racing organization coming into F1. You bring up an excellent point regarding what Andretti brings to the F1 table. What do Haas and Williams bring to the table regarding additional revenue and recognition to the sport of F1? Not much. Williams once did, but not for a LONG time have they been at or near the top. How much does Aston Martin bring to the table for that matter? It's a VERY small boutique manufacturer and has had financial troubles. If the greedy F1 teams reject Andretti-Cadillac Team, I'm finished with F1. There are three races in the US. That should tell them enough.
They definitely would. They’re doing this for the PR reasons, not because they want to get into F1 at all costs but because they want to be able to say that they are the only true American team amongst a sea of European (and one shitty, traitorous, “American” in name only) entries. If Andretti fails, I believe the only way an existing team would convince Cadillac to still go through with a works supply deal would be if they moved their operations to the US.
@@captiannemo1587 It doesn’t have to be completely in the US, but have an American identity. None of this “we’re supposedly based in North Carolina, but the cars are completely designed in Italy and completely built in the UK and we only use the NC base for administrative purposes” shit.
GM isn't coming without Andretti. No self-respecting American company would want to work with a bunch of Europussies afraid of the competition from an entirely American outfit.
If Andretti gets denied, I hope they take it to court... the fact that there's been efforts to bring in GM without Andretti proves beyond argument that the various stakeholders see "commercial value" in their addition, which would effectively ruin any chance of Liberty saying Andretti's bid didn't add value.
As an American F1 fan, I’m confident this is what would truly increase interest from new, more casual American fans. Haas is a laughing stock and Logan Sargent isn’t doing American drivers and favors. Even the Vegas GP isn’t doing much since it’s held well after most Americans are asleep. Knowing how companies advertise in the US, you’d be a fool to think General Motors won’t plaster this all over their advertisements and milk the connection for all it’s worth. They’ll probably start releasing F1 edition pickup trucks. The argument that Andretti Cadillac is trying to jump on the bandwagon now that F1 is bigger/more valuable, and that their entry won’t increase American interest in the sport, doesn’t hold water. Moreover, rejecting their bid risks pissing off existing American fans that see the move as BS. And you don’t get the same level of excitement from GM partnering with another, non-American team like Williams. Case in point, no one think of Red Bull as an American team now that Ford will make their engines in 2026…
I'm not sure that the F1 management team knows just how iconic the Andretti name is in the US. We F1 fans are vaguely interested in the fact that there's an American team that most people have never heard of running in the back of the field but that's about it. The same goes for an unknown American driver bringing up the rear. The most well-known racing name in America (who do you think you are, Mario Andretti?) along with one of the big 3 automakers and a car brand that has universal recognition will finally help get F1 in front of the mainstream US consumer.
Ben is right; at this point if the teams still say no then it's simply greed and cowardice. Under these new requirements, a lot of the current teams would be refused entry.
I think it's ridiculous to call it greed when half the teams are losing money as it is. F1 needs to share out the revenue better and the bottom teams will be more receptive
If the current F1 teams are so greedy that they don't allow any new teams on the grid to maintain their overall value in a global market, may they lose enough fans to make it a regional sport once again and tank whatever value they thought they had.
Get rid of the budget cap - Williams will still race in F1. Andretti will reject F1. Even if Williams aren't competitive they still put racing over money and profits for decades. Andretti has already rejected F1 and could've easily joined when Haas did. Other teams have no reason to let a company who rejected F1 join when it suddenly suits their pockets.
@@paperplane-db8qf when Williams was still family owned, sure. But do you really think it was stick around without a cost cap with Dorrilton Capital at the helm? I ain't too convinced.

Why doesn’t the FIA and f1 do something like expansion fees? Those payouts would go to the owners directly. Look at what the NHL did when they expanded.
As an American i dont see has Hass as an american F1 team. Having Andretti and Cadillac in the sport would give the American fans a real American team to get behund and support.
They should let Andretti replace the team with the least investment in technical development if the preference is to keep the championship to 10 teams. This will incentivise the existing teams to reinvest more of their existing capital into their development to drive the sport forward.
why can’t F1 just increase the payouts by a little bit for the rest of the grid? F1 is making a lot more money than they have been previously. Or they could just make the 11th place team earn 15 or so million at the end of the year when 10th right now makes about 30 million? It’s not a lot but maybe some teams (cough cough Haas) will try a little harder
If the American interest and money is part of the long term goal and fans want more teams then rejecting Andretti will absolutely destroy the F1 brand. I for one will turn my back on it completely and I don’t think I’m alone.
Whahaha you Americans think you are entitled to a team. None of the other countries with HUGE F1 fanbase have their own teams….. only Ferrari / Italy ofc. Stop being so delusional.
It is not just ridiculous, it's borderline corrupt if anemic teams and greedy team principles can reject competition outright. There will be consequences, in the words of Fernando Alonso.
Sounds to me some of the teams are there just to take a slice of the cake and not be competitive. In that case, them going under due to a new team joining, diluting the prize pool would do the sport a huge favor as it will make room for new teams as well as giving more incentive for the teams to actually perform and compete instead of putting in minimal effort and money just to take the money for finishing last. With the cost cap, there should be no excuse. F1 should be about innovation, not some rich people keeping the prize pool amongst themselves.
If Williams or Haas complain about sharing the money pool, Formula 1 should pitch the idea to the other teams that Williams and Haas get kicked out, then they bring in Andretti and split the pot 9 ways instead. The other teams would make more money and the overall product on the racetrack would be better without those two teams dragging them down.
The expense of being in F1 is hugh compared to CART. Andretti obviously needs GM to supply him engines and a solid sponsor on the side of his car to pay the operating costs. Then win races to keep that sponsor. 2028 is 4 years away. It will be interesting seeing how it plays out and how successful Ford will be building F1 engines starting in 2026 for Red Bull.
At this point, Andretti has done quadruple backflips through every hoop thrown at them. If he's not let in, it's just more European elitist bullshit we've always seen in F1.
@aaronbecker667 it's teams are all still run in Europe, its manufacturers are European etc. Just because it's owned by an American company doesn't make it American. See Haas, for example, American in name only. There was definitely a quote earlier in this process questioning whether an American engineering team could keep up with Europeans.
@oIRONITEo I think given the chance Andretti could succeed, maybe not in tbe first year or 2 but they have the experience, knowledge, tenacity, money??? To do it and Andretti racing has succeeded in every other series they been in haven't they? I personally can't see any downside to a " fully American " team on the grid And that money the other teams are worried about losing, I wonder if it has crossed their mind that Andretti and Cadillac could bring in more that what the teams will lose? F1 may be getting bigger in tbe US, but it has by no means cracked the huge market yet. Andretti could do that for f1. That's just what I think and could be entirely wrong.
@@aaronbecker667 Im not sure what your definition of succeed is but they're using a Renault for the first 2/3 years so they're not going to do too well during that time. Then they've got a new Chevy engine... took Honda 7 years to get it right. So you've gotta be adding a couple of years to the 2028 figure. Then factor in the disadvantages of being in the US- either less experienced US engineers *or* European engineers you've gotta pay a premium to get over to the US with their families. I'm excited about more teams, especially Andretti, but let's be realistic.
This bias against Andretti is astounding having teams outright say that they want Cadillac without Andretti is all the proof you need. Good on Cadillac for sticking with their partners in Andretti, and now it’s a game of chicken do F1 go through the PR nightmare of turning away Americas biggest auto manufacturer all in the name of slighting Michael and their own greed or do they stop being childish and greedy and let in two huge names in the world of Motorsport and manufacturing. I’ll be really interested to see how F1 responds when Cadillac threatens to pull out because Andretti isn’t granted access.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 as if F1 cares abt Caddilac 😂 F1 doesn’t need it. And there is no PR nightmare, you Americans think you own the world and you SHOULD BE part of everything. We laugh at that. You are so delusional. Nobody needs Andretti, Caddilac in F1.
It's not just GM though. In America the name "Andretti" is synonymous with racing. F1 turning down both would threaten to squelch a lot of future growth of the sport in the US. They think they'll be making less money if Andretti comes in? How much money will lose if Americans decided to not watch a sport that clearly only wants them around to make money off them?
I can appreciate the other 10 teams wanting value-added considerations, but Andretti has checked all the random boxes thrown at them. If Andretti are ultimately denied entry, I'm done with F1 and the sham regulations/requirements they make up on the fly.
hey Bro,, since Bernie left it's only been about entertainment and $$$$$$$$$$$$$$- ask Michael Ma$$i how much he got for throwing the championship.. This is nothing to do with a sport any more
what i don't understand is the fact that FIA green-lighted Andretti, but Liberty as a franchise partner can block it. because the teams have an issue with it? why don't the teams having an issue with it are given the option to get out of F1? or, for example, why not put the 'special status' of Ferrari under scruteny - who becomes extra money every year because they are what... Ferrari? also, there was another team that applied, saying they would come up with the $600m (discussed as the new entry fee for next Concorde agreement) at this point and covered pretty much all the requirements! why not ask the least financial savvy teams to meet the requirements set for new teams, or leave. supposedly there can be up to 12 (or is it 13?) teams on the grid. so give me that number of teams on the grid! 2 or 3 more teams means also 4 or 6 more seats for drivers + fill-ins etc. ... change the rules, like soccer national leagues - the last (or two last teams) have to get out! create a F1B (the second league in soccer) where another 10 teams battle over getting into F1. same cars and rules, same events, but let them race first from monday to wednesday. and end of season the bottom F1 teams switch with top F1B teams. --- whatever, take the boredom out of F1!!!
Why andretti will face a pretty big hurdle: Follow the money. F1 teams are f*cking expensive to operate. They are a business first. Revenue keeps you in play, profit makes the risk worthwhile. 0) F1 teams have finally started to actually make money from the sport rather than sponsorships (profit not revenue) 1) Concorde Agreement revenue / win share split goes to 11 from 10. 2) This would mean the teams need to work harder and invest more - more races - more sponsor money etc to stay competitive. 3) All current investments will see their return horizon shifted by a few years which makes capital (credit/debt) needed to operate expensive. 4) Poaching of current talent will increase expenses since new teams will spend more initially to gain top talent. Creating further financial pressure for teams.
Andretti is a major brand name and deserves a chance to show their worth and judging how Max V is dominating, it would be great to see more competitive teams out on the grid iron.
1) Andretti is a nobody, not a major name. 2) You think a team that NEVER DEVELOPED A RACE CAR, ANY RACE CAR OF ANY TYPE , would do well at F1? LMAO delusional much?
So what I'm getting from this is F1 is willing to let American engines, sponsorships, and racetracks/road tracks in, but not an American team or American drivers?
F1 should be a sport of race companies, not car manafactures. Racing companies such as McLaren, Sauber and Williams have long term future in F1 because they relay on F1 to make a living. Car companies don't, they only see it as marketing exercise. There are already reports that Audi might pull out from f1. Absolutely backwards
If the F1 establishment is this scared of an IndyCar team that hasn't won a championship in 11 years, imagine how they'd react to a Penske or Ganassi coming in and bursting their little bubble.
I don’t get why we can’t get an American team into F1. We made a push for more American races and now we have 3, with 1 in Canada and 2 in South America additionally.
So while Audi and the VW group beat around the bush with their f1 entry that was literally handed to them, Andretti who actually puts in the effort to make all this happen is being kicked to the side
Exactly, but Audi is a multi billion dollar corporation with funding from VW but yeah your point is 100% right
Audi bought an existing team, (Sauber/Alpha Romeo) so it wasn't 'handed to them'.
So much effort to be competing for last place with Haas... 😂😂😂😂
Christian Horner criticizing Cadillac as a badging exercise is hilarious coming from the team that once had multiple engine partners on their car at the same time 😂
And you know the whole thing where Ford is not making their engines.
Yup Redbulls Ford sponsorship is literally a branding exercise
Red Bull has only ever been a brand company by design, putting its name on a beverage someone else invented is the best known example of many attempts to grow the "Brand", they don't actually make anything.
@loud_v8_noises Redbull rebranded the Jaguar F1 team that was purchased from Ford in 2004
All a very clever ploy by Red Bull to be able to have their own engine, and not have to offer it to other teams. These loop holes have now been plugged, to ensure that only a manufacturer could enter as a new team. So I do not see how the Caddy engine could be exclusive to Andretti.
What has Andretti done to warrant him having to jump through these hoops. I don't recall Haas having this much pushback
when HAAS joined there wasn't so much interest in F1. Now F1 is making tons and tons of $ and they want to split the big pile in 10. Allowing Andretti means the pile splits to 11 competitors and that's what they don't like about it.
Different Concorde agreement
When you only want to join after all the hard work of growing the sport has been done... then yes, its logic there are more expectations to fullfill as well. its not really comparable those 2 situations
It's the different between you want to get in vs they want to get you in.
It’s about the money, as usual
Andretti just keeps calling F1’s bluffs and I’m here for it 🙌
Amén...
Looking forward to seeing an LS1-powered F1 car
I know you're joking, but I'd genuinely like to see what happens when you shove an aluminum-block version of a NASCAR Cup car engine in something like an F1 car. The sound alone would be worth the effort, and 900+ NA horsepower and way more torque than the old V10s would be hilarious to see in something that small.
Even the reverse would be interesting to pull off.
@@AzathothsAlarmClock I know it wouldn't be competitive, but I also think you'd be surprised at how fast it could be. Pushrod engines, especially aluminum ones, are incredibly small and light light relative to their displacement, and the torque figures blow any non-turbo F1 engine out of the water. And remember, that 900+ horsepower figure is without any hybrid assist.

I want to see Andretti do to Horner what Ford did to Ferrari at LeMans in the 60's
As Stirling Moss famously said: “[Enzo Ferrari is] a true racing manufacturer… It's sad to see a man like this beaten by a big company, especially when you realize [Ford's] decision to race is really just another marketing decision.”
One thing i can't understand is - wouldn't the size of "The Pie" increase over the next few years - especially with a new American team? Surely, that new, Bigger pie can feed all those hungry (greedy) teams - right?
Ding ding ding we have a winner! I don't understand why it's so hard for so many people to understand that lol this will significantly grow F1 in America and if f1 rejects it you can kiss that American Momentum goodbye
@@ank0663 F1 growing in the US is the exact opposite of whats good for F1. Americanizing F1 will ruin the essence of it.
F1 is a world wide competition, not much demand for the latest crap from the USA in the world advertising market.
@ronbelanger4113 then why has F1 desperately for years try to break into the American market? LOL so obviously the people running F1 think differently. And it's funny how all of those countries they travel to they still don't make anything close to what they make in America LOL. Keep hating America cuz we're better🤣🤣🤣🤣
If you ask for current teams they will never accept new teams. It is about money, anything else is just talk to try and dissuade the newcomers... I hope Andretti is accepted and does well. (I think it will be good for the people watching even if the teams don't like it)
F1’s report card would say “does not play well with others”
Andretti is a name that carries weight in F1 and the larger racing world. They are an organization that understands the game, unlike Haas, which has a background in machine tools. Mario won the world championship and Michael definitely feels he has something to prove. With GM backing they could rise rapidly through the ranks and upset the legacy teams’ apple carts. Which means reduced profits for the losers. But then, when was professional racing ever a for-profit endeavor until now?
I was actually brainstorming earlier today about which engines Andretti would use. This answers that
F1 keep lamenting they can't "break into" the US market.. THIS is one of the reasons why. You can't claim to want the market then shit on the fans, teams, prospective teams, every time you have a chance. This situation actually seems like a breaking-point for F1, part of the reason F1 is doing so well is because of the US market.. come on F1, don't cut off your nose to spite your face.
Totally! Make no mistake, it's all about the money... F1 is thrilled to have a massive influx of interest and revenues being generated by new American fans, but they don't want to have to share those American dollars with an American team who can represent those fans in a way that Haas never will, due to their lack of the substantial financial heft Andretti is bringing to the game. Time to start a petition amongst American fans in support of Andretti, and then let's see if the existing teams change their tune! 🏁🏁🏁

I'm a Millennial American fan of F1 been in love since the days of Senna. I honestly don't care to see GM involved in the sport, but if Michael Andretti could get in prior to Mario passing (nothing but good health to him, but the fellow is getting up there in years) that would be great for him to see. If Paul Newman were still around I think he could get the deal encouraged.
If GM came in as a manufacturer with their own engine, great. Bear in mind the technology involved, Infrastructure and people required, and the fact that both Porche and VW have tested the water and turned their back on it. Would GM be able to compete ?

Seems like the race turned out ok
9:09 It would be hilarious if GM did exactly that if Andretti got rejected
They definitely would. They’re doing this for the PR reasons, not because they want to get into F1 at all costs but because they want to be able to say that they are the only true American team amongst a sea of European (and one shitty, traitorous, “American” in name only) entries.
If Andretti fails, I believe the only way an existing team would convince Cadillac to still go through with a works supply deal would be if they moved their operations to the US.
Teams have tried operating purely from the US in F1 as well as in other international series. It hasn’t gone well due to the distance involved.
@@captiannemo1587 It doesn’t have to be completely in the US, but have an American identity. They can do what Haas pretended they were doing for years: design the cars and do at least some manufacturing in the states, have American staff and have a forward base in the UK or Europe in a position to quickly supply parts on race weekends when necessary.
F1 has no choice but to accept them at this point.

Why doesn’t the FIA and f1 do something like expansion fees? Those payouts would go to the owners directly. Look at what the NHL did when they expanded.

They should let Andretti replace the team with the least investment in technical development if the preference is to keep the championship to 10 teams. This will incentivise the existing teams to reinvest more of their existing capital into their development to drive the sport forward.
When you remember the cost cap stops teams from doing just that.

why can’t F1 just increase the payouts by a little bit for the rest of the grid? F1 is making a lot more money than they have been previously. It’s not a lot but maybe some teams (cough cough Haas) will try a little harder
The payout by Andretti must be higher and he doesn’t want to pay up…..
I haven't watched F1 for decades. Everything discussed in this video reminds me of why.
I still can't believe teams think they are Franchises in F1, and can keep Andretti out 😂
If the American interest and money is part of the long term goal and fans want more teams then rejecting Andretti will absolutely destroy the F1 brand.
Oy problem with that comment is Formula 1 is 100% American owned, not European
I mean... Europe is elite by comparison!
I personally can't see any downside to a " fully American " team on the grid
And that money the other teams are worried about losing, I wonder if it has crossed their mind that Andretti and Cadillac could bring in more that what the teams will lose?
F1 may be getting bigger in tbe US, but it has by no means cracked the huge market yet.
Andretti could do that for f1.
That's just what I think and could be entirely wrong.
@@aaronbecker667
Im not sure what your definition of succeed is but they're using a Renault for the first 2/3 years so they're not going to do too well during that time.
Why andretti will face a pretty big hurdle:
Follow the money. F1 teams are f*cking expensive to operate. They are a business first. Revenue keeps you in play, profit makes the risk worthwhile.
0) F1 teams have finally started to actually make money from the sport rather than sponsorships (profit not revenue)
1) Concorde Agreement revenue / win share split goes to 11 from 10.
Such a joke the f1 teams are
Andretti is a major brand name and deserves a chance to show their worth and judging how Max V is dominating, it would be great to see more competitive teams out on the grid iron.

This needs to happen!
