I know it a long podcast but there’s some really good points that were touched on. Also a lot of vulnerability put forth in the hopes of help some other first responder not feel alone
It took 18 years in EMS before I sought help. Mental health in First responders has been stigmatized for so long that I never thought I needes help until I had a mental health crisis soon after I lost a friend LODD. I am a huge advocate for getting help, talk about it, stop burying that shit.
I’m not sure how this video ended up in my algorithm, but I’m so glad it did. I gave it a listen, and now I’m officially a fan of the podcast. While I’m not in the service industry like you two, the stories you shared truly resonated with me and left a lasting impression. I’ve always held deep respect for our firefighters and police officers, recognizing the immense trauma they face in their line of work. However, hearing about the lack of support-or inadequate support-from department leadership is deeply saddening. These heroes deserve better from the very systems meant to protect and uplift them. Kia, you’re a fantastic host, and Drew, your insights and storytelling were incredibly powerful. Tautua Talk is such an impactful podcast, and I’m locked in for future episodes. Keep up the amazing work!
Thank you for your support. Our department takes great care of us compared to a lot of other departments. Unfortunately it the stigma attached to mental health crisis in the fire service that needs to change. The good news is that it is slowly changing . it’s going to take a lot of time, a lot of hard work, and a lot more people opening their mouths and being vulnerable. We all need to do a better job about educating the public on what we actually do on a regular basis. I had no idea what it all entailed until I became a firefighter. Thank you for leaving a comment and thank you for the kind words.
I feel as though I had entered a diamond mine. There are so many treasures throughout. The analogy of EMTS therapy to a computer that needed periodic defragmentation to clear out any accumulation was great. This podcast almost felt like i was listening into a behind the scenes of the firefighter industry.
It's been a huge change for me. Lucky to have it available here in Missouri. The kicker is, it's provided NO COST to any first responder, or their family if needed. No insurance issues, and no stress about money being the factor. Glad we have the right leaders in place that are helping provide these types of services! Thank u for the feedback 💯
