    • @LeafyGreenDA
      @LeafyGreenDA 9 лет назад +33

      +Blacklava The only reason I would be terrified of that thing is that I have some bizarre fear of things that FLAP. I'll pet it as long as it's using its legs.
      There was a humming bird caught in my garage, so we set out some sugar water to keep it fed until we could help it get out. It rested in the box and I pet it. IT WAS FINE AND DANDY. REALLY CUTE AND FUZZY BIRD. The minute it started flapping I had a panic attack.
      Could be a reaction that we can't control.

      Shakes Shigsm Yes I agree completely, its the frantic flapping that gets me as well. My fobia for those monsters started the first time I observed one, and that one appeared on my shoulder when I woke up in my bed(I was 6). I'm also afraid from daily buts if they have dark wings or a big body. But moths are far worse because of their searching for light--->They go where humans go. Fortunately I live in Sweden where they usually don't grow so disgustingly big, and the winter is kinda long.

    When I was a kid- age 9 or 10, a friend and I found all these 2" long Cocoons in the Birch trees in our area in the winter. We didn't know what would emerge from them, we just knew it must be a large Moth. We each had 35 Cocoons that we kept in our Bedrooms. 2 months later they all hatched, so we then had 35 Polyphemus Moths in our bedrooms everywhere, climbing the curtains etc. We were collectors, so we both later had a big case full of them to display. Awesome. Our parents were impressed- They had no idea these beautiful Moths were in our own neighborhood all those years.

    I found a cocoon and it happened to be the same moth you have here. It obviously wasnt this big yet but it was dang well near this size. It was amazing to see it come alive and take its maiden flight. Cool video!

      The Videoboard They don't bite or sting. Beautiful creatures if you ask me. I reared one of these on sugar maple leaves. The giant silk moths are the showiest of insects.

    I saw a bigger one in Penn 30 years ago and I will never forget, I was sitting at a local bar and this moth was hanging out at the window attracted to the neon lights - it was the size of a large bird.

    If I had a butterfly the size of a bird flying around in my house, I'd sit back and enjoy it. If I had a moth the size of a bird flying around in my house I'd run the hell out. How is this possible? No offence people but moths are just too damn scary. What can you expect? They're the butterfly's darker counterpart.

  • @TellEmRye
