  • @davetaylor4741

    You welded the saddle because you can. We used to just turn the saddle up the wall like the soakers and then put a cover flashing over it. The end ridge buts against it and holds it in anyway. Super neat job. How did you learn your trade. Are there college courses in lead work these days or did you serve an apprenticeship as a lead worker. It has all changed over there since I left. However you trained someone did a good job.

    • @slbleadworks
      @slbleadworks  Год назад +1

      I started when I was 16 straight from school. I done a 4 year apprenticeship. With 1 day a week at college. But it was definitely working alongside another lead worker that I learnt the most. Proper real world out on site training. I worked with two amazing lead workers. Although one of them I was definitely scared off. I didn’t want to make any mistakes as I wasn’t sure what he would do. Although he had a temper. He was an amazing lead worker.

      I think you can fuse two pieces together using what was called a wiped joint so basically like soldering I suppose. Stuart definitely knows his stuff and is a very good leadworker. I may be wrong but I think I've seen leadwork done using that go join it but then again that could of been wrong to do it like that. I know pipes used to be joined all the time using the wiped joint and still is today all be it very rare unless you work exclusively on heritage projects

  • @bobjit252
    @bobjit252 5 месяцев назад +1

    Hello , question if you don’t mind , what stops the water being driven in the step flashing on the slanted vertical part and then down the back of the soaker ?? Thanks any reply welcome

    • @slbleadworks
      @slbleadworks  5 месяцев назад

      Each step is turned into the brick joint by 25mm. This is then pointed in with mortar or silicone. And as the steps go up they lap the one underneath. The slant also encourages water away. If water was to run down the slant it would hit the 25mm turn in on the step underneath. I know it doesn’t look like it should work and I see where you’re coming from.
      But it does and his method has been proven to work for years.

    • @slbleadworks

      Providing your always keeping your waterline the same. The deviation in steps could be to do with different roof pitches on different jobs. Or I suppose bad brickwork.
