Fantastic instructions and advice to do it yourself! I called 4 different firms and never even got a call back, so I decided I needed to do it myself. Mike is very clear on equipment needed and tips. Just applied my second coat and couldn’t be more pleased!
Hey Mike - thank you so much for taking the time to share this information and for putting together such a helpful video. After clicking through a few other 'how to seal' videos, I quickly realized yours was the most comprehensive. Thanks for not skipping steps and taking a step-by-step approach. Appreciate it. I think I've finally got the information (and courage) I need to re-seal our patio next spring. Take care.
Going thin on your sealer applications (400 sq. ft./gal.) and spraying the solvent you used as your tool cleaner back into your solvent- based sealer container are great tips and makes perfect sense after seeing it done.
Best video I’ve seen on resealing stamped concrete, very detailed, thank you! You gave me confidence to take on my 700 squared feet project with some hairline cracks.
Nice job just wish you would have showed a final overview of it after it had dried completely and i have a question about the over spray on the house and post doesn't it show?
Looking for your video on stripping old sealer before applying new sealer to stamped/colored concrete that you mentioned at 15:30 of this video. I am from Michigan and using Euclid Chemical products and was told to roll xylene on and let sit for a bit and then wipe off with rags to keep from harming grass/plants in the area and making a mess?? They said a couple applications might be needed to remove all/most of old sealer.
I was also hoping to find this, but searching all Mike's videos doesn't seem to show anything. Either way, thanks for this video, I think I can finally get our stamped patio fixed up right.
Hi Mike, I'm a 70 years old retiree who has nothing to do at home for killing the time , it is so boring and I want to impress my old lady by DIY to recolor & sealing my stamp concrete in the back & front yard And after watching quite a few videos on you tube I start to have a little confident for my self that I could do it and after all of those , your video as the last , I would say this : ' Thank you so much For an excellent video that you have made with your daughter to show to the world how to do the perfect job of cleaning and sealing concrete , you are the best of the best SIR , you should work as The instructor for city college or some private school to teach people remodel their house or home improving . At last thank you so much .
I've got to have the ez clean, I get tired of going over it several directions to eliminate lines. I have about 50 yards worth of decorative at my own house i've been neglecting. U made my sunday morning, just wish I saw this yesterday when I powerwashed for 6 hours at my place.
This is a SUPER informative video! Thank you 🙏. I was originally going to roll it on but this spray method with the backrolling looks a lot better for my uneven concrete (made that way). Thanks a bunch and great video 👍
Is getting the sealer on the walls not a concern? I was going to tape off the edges but I don’t want to waste time If not needed. And how long between coats? Thank you!!
Thank you for the video. I was wondering if there is a safer version of sealer- most of the concrete sealers have the California warning- contain carcinogens 😞
Thanks for the video. Can I reseal a stamped concrete walk with a water based Silane Siloxane sealant over a solvent based acrylic sealant? Does the power washer (with the special cleaning head) remove enough of the old sealant to put down a different type of sealant? Thanks!
I followed this video to seal my driveway and patio three years ago, and I'm reviewing as I prepare to do it again. However, I won't be using AR350. It turned out great initially, but the sealer started turning a milky-white sheen in random areas after about six months. Then, it began to show significant wear after a year. The sealer is all but gone three years later.
Great video. I tried the xylene this weekend and it looked good when laced but when it dried I seen all of the grey /dry spots re appear. I think it needs to be stripped and re applied. I’m going to purchase your recommended stealer from Amazon. I noticed after applying the xylene after 2 days it feels crunchy when walked on it . I’m going to strip and remove it asap.
Hey Mike, I had a stamped patio done. The stamping didn't come out the best with the lines in the pattern. It's a basic square and rectangle design. Can I ask them to grind the missing lines in? I know the color might be off, but I feel like it would look better than have them missing.
I think I may have sealed with AR350 over water based sealant. Couldn't do the test since Xylene is not avail in California. It is now super cloudy and flakey. What do you suggest?
Many thanks for the comprehensive video Mike. You've given me confidence that I can reseal my concrete patio myself. Part of my patio is covered and part is not. The part that is not covered has little to no sealant on it anymore (as expected). However, the covered portion is still somewhat sealed and glossy (solvent-based). Do I need to strip that old sealant off or can I just cover it with a light coat of new sealant after cleaning it? Again, thank you!
I think you said on the roller you use a 3/8 inch nap roller. Do you find that it sheds into the sealer or are they pretty much fine I've always used a foam roller thank you
Can you tell me what size tip you are using? I have the Chapin Extreme sprayer and when applying Foundation Armor I dont get an even fan. The ends come out as a slight stream which is definatly not good for the second coat. Thanks in advance.
Mike, we have smooth stained concrete floors throughout our house. Everywhere there is a crack in the concrete and next to most of the baseboard the concrete sealer is turning white. It's very unsightly, and I would like to address it. How would you do this in an enclosed area? Can you spot seal to get rid of the white areas? Do you have to do the whole floor?
Mike, Great video. My question is to do with my colored stamped concrete that is about 35 days old. I sealed my exposed aggregate walkway a few days ago that was poured at the same time. Some of the "cream" gray color is visible on the exposed aggregate because I believe that the release agent didn't remove it all. It was not evident when wet with water or wet while I was sealing it. I had pressure washed the stamped and the exposed numerous times. Before I seal the colored stamped concrete, I'm thinking I should wash it with a mild muriatic acid solution so I don't end up with the same condition on it. Does that sound correct? I didn't put the second coat on the exposed aggregate after I saw what happened to it. Does the acid wash cut through most sealers or will only xylene?
Great video! One question: How do you gauge the "thickness" of the sprayer's application of the sealant? You mention 400 and 300 square feet per gallon. How do you know how much you're putting down? Thanks.
Thank you Mike for a great video with all tips & tricks of the trade. I got the same sprayer tank you linked in the description; but when I tried to spray with it though, it sprays differently than yours…it was spraying more on the edges and less in the middle. Are you using a different tip or something? Please advice.
Hi Mike love your videos ,learned alot, my problem was i was applying to much Sealer , My Question is I have Brand new Porcelean flooring in our Backyard, Can i put Foundation Armor AR-350 On it?
Bought the same sealer. Applied with a roller. I think I went too thin on the first coat. Just right on the second. Now it looks slightly blotchy almost as if some of the areas absorbed more sealer than others. Would a light 3rd coat fix this?
I was also thinking about wet sandblasting to get the paint up. Do you think running the blasting media through the surface cleaner attachment is a good idea?
If I add Sharkgrip, should I add it to both coats or just top coat? Also I thought your supposed to wait 24hrs per foundationarmor instructions before adding second coat? Thanks!
I have this exact same question, noticed someone else asked it previously too, really wish there had been a reply. However, having rewatched the video after my first coat was applied with the 0.5 gal tip, I think he must be using the 1 gal tip because he’s moving fast and seems to be getting much more consistent even coverage that I was getting. Fortunately the roller helped spread the sealer out more evenly.
Great video, Mike. It gave me encouragement that we can do this ourselves to restore our 2500 sq ft of stamped concrete (driveway & patios) that have been neglected for 20+ years. They left alot of bubbles and now there are white spots like you describe, but we are afraid maybe the white could also be where the sealer is no longer covering and possibly leaving us just gray concrete without color? ??? Hi Mike, I followed your directions and I think I did a good job. However, the part of the patio which is exposed to sun and rain ( not covered by the roof) , still has spots that seem like there is no sealer or less sealer than the covered patio. Does this mean I didnt apply enough? Or after 1 month it is normal to fade? I would expect to last longer ( I used the expensive one you mention in the video). After 1 month, will it be stupid to wash this part of the patio and reseal it for a third time using a roller? Or I need to power wash again and start all over again? Thanks!
Excellent video, Mike. Very helpful. I just wiped some Xylene on a white area on my patio. The whiteness didn't go away and the surface didn't get tacky. Does this mean the previous owner used a water-based sealant? Is there anything else I can do to confirm?
This is the most detailed and professionally done video on the subject. Thanks for the time and effort (including your beautiful helper) to explain everything to newbies like us. Appreciated.
Great video by the way Mike. What would you recommend for stripping concrete pavers that were sealed and painted over the years. I used xylene based products and I would like to take it down to the original paver and then just seal it. Any techniques would be helpful. Thanks.
First of all, you did a fantastic job explaining and demonstrating the process. Thank you! I used that exact same sealer on our walkway last September. I rolled it on and initially it looked fantastic. Now it looks whitish in places and brittle in other places, but only in areas where the weather really hits it hard and also where we walk. Additionally Xylene is a precious commodity in the state of Maryland, I hoarded several gallons last year while it could be had. Now that it’s not available what other solvent might you suggest? I pressure washed it today and my plan was to go over most of it with a roller and xylene and try to reconstitute it and then decide if I should reseal it with more product. I have a feeling I may have put it down a bit too thick. Any suggestions?
Yea, Xylene is the best for thinning it and trying to remove the whiteish areas. You can try Acetone or Laquer thinner also. If it's too thick and needs to be removed you can check out this sealer remover: ruclips.net/video/66QLH1pMfjY/видео.html
Question do you have to cover up the sanding or windows from spray? And if you get some on windows or siding how do you remove? Thanks Marv from San Diego
Great video, Mike. thank you for sharing your expertise. Here is what I have happening. I have cleaned my stamped concrete and was totally amazed, it hasn't looked that good since it was poured. Now my question is, I have a pink sidewalk and patio which was suppose to have a dark brown release on it but I swear that our people forgot that part (it was pink from day one). This was poured about 1994. I was wondering if I could stain the concrete with a brown before sealing it to try and get rid of some of its pinkness. It is worn and tired and you can see a lot of the pebbles at the surface now. How would you suggest that I proceed? I purchased the sealer you recommended and am excited to move forward however I don't want to mess things up. If you think I can stain it what would you recommend?
Sue, check out this sealer - it has a brown tint to it, maybe it's what you're looking for: www.foundationarmor.com/agbrown This company also has other tinted sealers you can use to color (re-color) your concrete.
Great Video Mike, and one quick question here in California it's band to purchase Xylene. What else could I use to clean my sprayer and check my floors?
@@MikeDayConcrete Hi Mike. Is there any problem with spraying the acetone (after sprayer cleaning) back into the Foundation Armor Sealant container like you suggested in your video with the Xylene? Thanks.

Thanks Keith!

Great information, and it is also great to see your daughter working side by side with you, great family bonding.

This is a damn solid DIY video. I feel like i could totally do this now. I love this guy.
This video is top tier quality. Much appreciated thanks!
Awesome explanation!!!! One question, what kind of roller is that ? Name ?

any worries about getting some on that vinyl siding?

Is it ok to leave the sealer in the sprayer for 1-4 hours between coats?? Or do you clean the can between coats? Thanks!
It'll be ok to leave it in there.

Do u use any soaps or chechicals to help clean it faster?
Why do I need Xylene to clean the sprayer when the product I'm putting down is acrylic-based. Won't soap and water clean the sprayer?
Is that sealer going to damage the siding, when my contractor used Poly-seal 400 he got it on the siding and ruined about 2 feet up
First of all, you did a fantastic job explaining and demonstrating the process. Thank you! I used that exact same sealer on our walkway last September. I'd cover it if you're worried about getting some spray on it, I've done this for years so I'm good at not getting any on it.
so you start off with a "dry" 18" roller, correct?
