I watch Odel's Concrete because he makes the trade seem like a Grateful Dead concert. Mike's channel is educational and describes everything in such detail that if you watched them a few times and had a chance to practice, you'd be ok doing pretty much any concrete job. Very much like what you'd learn doing an apprenticeship. Thx

More than an awesome video with detailed instruction, THANKS. However I have a question regarding the reducer and adding water. My experience has always been as a helper and am not sure if the boss has reducer added or not, this seems to be a point of secrecy when I help and inquire about the mix or he really don't know himself. When we pour it always seems to go like this, truck arrives, everything is staged for the pour, the driver lets down a little concrete and the boss says were good or add 5 or 10, the driver pulls a lever runs the drums CW for a bit and we are usually are good to go. It seems pretty common for us to have to add water, but when you guys pour I don't see the fingers go up to add or you having to give verbal commands to add water at least not as often as we do. Thanks for any feed back and I appreciate your videos.

Some of the drivers we have a very good at getting the right slump the first time. But we do have to do just as you mentioned sometimes. Stop and give it 5 or 10 gallons. That is not unusual.

Do they add the water reducer at the plant or on site? Do you specify anything more that 3/4" stone for the aggregate? Do you do anything to test slump or just know what it's supposed to look like? Thanks so much for taking the time to put out these very helpful videos!!

Yes they add the water reducer when they batch the truck. We use 3/4" stone for all our floors and slabs, regular patios, driveways, pool decks and sidewalks. We only use 3/8 aggregate for stamped concrete and thin over-pours (1 1/2" - 2" thick cap floors)

How would grade down to a floor drain? Thanks for a great video!!

Tony, if the concrete isn't too wet, it'll slope by using a mag float. Just mag the slope into the concrete when you pour.
