The latest release from Deersky’s Soundteller Records welcomes Frankie M back to the label for a new EP. Hailing from Buenos Aires, the Argentinean artist has appeared on the Polish imprint three times since making his label debut in 2016 with a contribution to their ‘Summer Sampler’ collection. 2017 yielded a joint single with fellow countryman and Massive Harmony boss Julian Rodriguez, while this year has seen another solo appearance on the label’s popular ‘Vibrant Vibeland’ series. Now following releases for Nick Warren’s The Soundgarden, Massive Harmony and Spring Tube Limited, Frankie returns to Soundteller for his first EP entitled ‘La Prima’.
The release begins with two versions of the nicely titled ‘Bad Vibe Isn’t For Me’. Smooth and serene throughout, the Original Mix carries a lovely hypnotic quality. Warm, driving and layered with great harmonics it’s a heartfelt nine minute journey. The two breaks are particularly emotive but not in an overt sense, swirling motifs do wonders to build an impassioned vibe while organic drums keep that amazing rhythm nicely intact. The intro mix offers a lengthy segue into the heart of the track and maintains all the great qualities of the original. A perfect set starter or perhaps something for the more adventurous DJ as well.
The companion and also title piece ‘La Prima’ finds Frankie collaborating with Valentina Chaves for another sleek progressive number. Following a similar sonic ethos as it’s predecessor this also resonates on a deeper level. Remarkably fluid and free flowing, it’s incredibly meditative, moving through gentle swells and atmospheric phrases, while subtle shades and tones add just the right amount of musicality. The most profound moment is coming out of the break, as a wave of white noise slowly engulfs a wall of harmonic colour as the beats and groove drop for a magic moment. It rounds out two very classy productions from Frankie who is yet another Argentinean artist to keep a close eye on moving forward. Highly recommended.
