Please don’t do the Hipshot trem. Try something new, like Super-Vee if you can get them involved 🤔. And see if you like the Planet Waves trim-lock tuners, those are way cool. For something really wacky, you could try the Fender LSR roller nut.
And It’s begging for a HEAVY relic-ing job.

I bought this guitar in Jan. when it was advertised $104.00. I received it in five days through FedEx. The first time is strummed the strings, nothing but buzz. The neck was over bowed. All it took was 3/4 of a turn on the nut.
The quality of materials and especially the fit and finish is a rare find . The nut was cut perfect, the frets were finished nicely the paint job , the budget electronics.....Monoprice is doing a fantastic job. BTW, it was strung with D'addario 9's. This has been one of the most valuable purchases I've made.Give the guys a chance, you'll probably be surprised.

@@alaricpaley6865 nothing wrong with basswood, basswood usually tends to give a flat response, which is awesome because it wont color your pickups. so even a lot of high end guitars use it.

If you like this guitar, I assume that you would have liked the discontinued Squier Affinity Jazzmaster HH. I snagged one back in 2018 when they were still on the market (for $200 new as well!), and I do not regret.
As for what I would want you to mod this guitar with, I would like to see you throw some Seymour Duncan Pickups in it considering they aren't as common of a feature on your channel, and that they have much more singlecoil options compared to other brands you have featured (plus, you have already featured Fishman singles on the channel).
As far bridges go, either Fender or Hipshot, maybe give Grover tuners a chance, and of course you should include the typical GraphTech appointments.

3 ply pickguard with white pickup covers for the single coils and knobs and white/black humbucker would have made this look killer. Who decided on cream covers/knobs? 🤔

I think the pickups sounded pretty good, tonally balanced, not noisy. And, what does it matter these days, as with a good Mode!er you can pretty much make it sound like what you want. How is the "sustain" on the guitar?

The bridge pickup on mine is overwound. I wouldn't consider that low output.
Did you do any adjusting to the trem for that test? That was amusing. I kinda hear some Exodus in that riff.

What would I do with it? Since it seems to play pretty well without tinkering, after replacing the tuners with locked tuners (a set of Hipshot grip-locks go for $60-70), I'd add an Adafruit Macropad ($50) wired to a MIDI interface. Little bit of RGB Bling that takes you into the world of MIDI, which is very rare for a guitar. And, since it's now MIDI, you can cook your signal as dirty and nasty as you want, spice it up, or make it so chill you need space heaters to keep playing. Imagine: Stepping out for your epic guitar solo, you punch the button and suddenly your Axe sounds like a flute, but still plays like a guitar, you're producing sounds no actual flute in the world can match. The audience is expecting Metallica, and get their minds blown by sounds they've never heard before, by sounds that were impossible before. And all that for under $300? Not bad at all...

just bought this. Have to replace the cheap ceramic pickups. Will custom make some alnico humbuckers and experiment with single coil spit coil humbuckers. My experience with ceramics, sounds ok without many effects, start sounding muddy with more pedals. Alnico have way more clarity. Cheap guitar manufacturers not will to pay an extra ten bucks for better magnets.

Do you have a Jaguar or Jazzmaster to compare it to? I am wondering if the pickguard from a Jaguar would line up since the bodies are apparently identical

As a jazzmaster purist I hate this thing but I still think that it'd be a cool mod platform for a hardtail p90 loaded offset

I dunno, maybe slap in an evertune, fishmans and some locking tuners? Stainless refret if you're feeling extra juicy? 😄
