    Basically any modern Squier Affinity I've picked up lately has been just spectacular. I'm gonna pick up an Affinity Jazzmaster in Burgundy Mist cause I want a JM and like, it feels perfect. I'm absolutely stunned in the best way by these and it feels like the quality of the child brands are putting the parent companies on notice - we're good too, so don't slack on the big boy end.

    Tele's need a single coil somewhere imo. Even a coil split would've been great. Still an awesome guitar! And it's really nice seeing such high quality for people on a tight budget. They deserve great instruments too!

    The sideways selector actually makes sense for a beginner guitar, the switch points to which pickup you're using. You lose a bit of playability not being able to easily flick it in strumming motion, but the intuitiveness might be more beneficial to a new player.

    It's still weird hearing any Tele referred to as a chug machine, but it's super exciting! I love seeing "traditional" guitars used for decidedly non-"traditional" genres. I'm trying to decide between this and the Contemporary. Shoot out?

      It's my favorite thing to take "traditional" guitars and modify them with hotter pickups for "non traditional" genres. So chucking super hot pickups in a Strat or a Tele and running the result through a Dual Rectifier

      I've still got an incredible Squier Strat from Jan 1990, which is when they moved from Japan to Korea. It's Japanese parts, assembled in Korea with an original quartersawn neck. One of the best playing and sounding guitars I own. The pickups are slightly wider than standard, so I've never bothered to swap them out.
      Needs a refret now, so It's been sitting in the case for many years. Maybe one day I'll get around to fixing it up again, but I'm a lazy bastard with too many guitars.

    I've got a lot of high end gear at home. PRS, Fender Custom Shop, Gibson etc.... the newer Squier line ups have been extremely impressive for the price. These are not the same as the old Squier. Modern manufacturing techniques are closing the gap. These affordable guitars are getting better and better with each iteration. I'd have no problem having a Classic Vibe Tele as a backup to my higher end Teles

  • @peterwilson8039
    @peterwilson8039 2 года назад +2

    I have one of those. Mine is burgundy mist which I regret. I much prefer the charcoal frost color. I don't quite like it as much as my single-coil guitars, but I bought it to give me an alternative to the single-coil sound, and for the purpose it works well. I like the fact that it plays and feels exactly like my other telecaster, so it's immediately comfortable to play, except for the Gibsonesque controls. I'd much rather have standard tele controls. The (completely unnecessary) skunk stripe on my Affinity Telecaster Deluxe is perfectly fitted, but not so much the (also completely unnecessary) skunk stripe of my FMT Affinity Strat. On that guitar there's a tiny hole at the end of the skunk stripe where it doesn't quite fill the cavity, and little raised edges along the side of the skunk stripe, which may just be glue. A little sanding might take care of that. It's not an issue in playing, but it does speak, I suppose, to the fact these are not expensive instruments. I also like the fact that these new Affinities don't have "Affinity" stamped on the headstock. They look just like the Classic Vibe guitars, apart from the fact they don't have the sticky finish on the neck. I have no intent to upgrade the pickups on my Telecaster Deluxe, just because ultimately I prefer the single-coil Telecaster sound. I might look into getting the body painted a different color. I saw a retro Fender at the guitar store the other day, with a lightly distressed body, which was standard Tele except for a humbucker in the neck position, and I drooled. It wasn't outrageously expensive either, which probably points to a an oriental origin, even though the headstock logo was Fender.

  • @johnny-r
    @johnny-r Год назад

    I have two of these. They're great-sounding guitars for heavy rock sounds. One one of them, I've had a lot of trouble intoning the low E to not play sharp on the G note with an open G chord. It's not the cut of the nut. I have other Squiers (Teles) where this is not a problem, so it's not the "cheapness" of the guitar. I've tried everything. I just have to use a feather touch on the note, which I really would rather not do.
    Because of the tummy cut or whatever it's called, the body is extremely light, which causes serious neck dive, so keep that in mind.
    Overall, both guitars are holding up well and having no problems with electronics. This video says they're $200. Actually they're $279 right now at Sweetwater. They're worth it. Both of mine are Burgundy Mist, and it's not a very exciting color. None of the Deluxes have great colors in my opinion. But if you're on the fence, get off it and buy one from Sweetwater.

    I gotta say I ordered one of these based on hearing similar praise in other reviews . This is exactly how I wanted a Tele configuration with the proper headstock. I had it out of the box 10 minutes and i was shocked how bad it was. The fretwork was horrible, the neck wood felt exactly like the cheap pine. The skunk strip was raised as you point out, the tuners were loose , the switch was loose , tone knob was crooked ... I could go on. It went back the next day. So disappointed. Overall it felt like a toy. Just wanted to say that if you're planing on getting one of these, lower your expectations because they are not even in the same league as the guitar you can buy for another 150.

    Mod project: just how hard would it be to drop wide-range humbuckers in this? I'm not suggesting it be done to this instrument, but answering the question has merit. The pickguard would have to be routed out, but does the body need to be routed out? Simple question to answer once under the hood. Furthermore, how hard would it be to put a stock Telecaster pickup in the bridge?
    Questions answered, we move on.
    Bridge pickup: EMG RTCX ($99)
    Neck pickup: EMG 89R ($119)
    Boost: EMG AB220 ($79)
    Tuners: anything drop-in
    Nut: Gravtech
    Bridge: Fender vintage road worn ($50.91)
    Pickguard: Indra Guitars Custom (Probably more than the entire guitar in its present state.)

    Fender used to do a Vintage modified Deluxe with two P90s. Be cool if that returned as a model too, or maybe mod one of these. Though I guess would be easier if popped in P90s in a humbucker sized package. Like the Tonerider ones. Kind of thinking of doing that, at least with one of the pickups, to add variety. And also because I'm short on P90 guitars (though would like one of those Epiphone Les Paul Specials later).

    I think sideways pickups selector is on purpose my 62 jazzmaster is the same , I think it's so it's less likely to get flipped by accident

    I've just come from watching Tele deluxe classic Vibe US v Tele classic standard US comparison vid, and this Tele Affinity sounds just as good as both n looks better than the Standard colour wise! Could be your set up though! But as they cost £350 & £700, you've convinced me to get the Affinity and save a small fortune! 👍👏🙏🤣🤣

    I saw the burgundy mist model at my local gtr shop a while ago, I passed on it and I'm kinda pissed at myself now lol I did buy a Squire Jaguar bass at that same shop, a couple years ago, for $200 bucks and I love it. I take it to my buddies' house sometimes and plug it into his monster rig...haha It freakin' rocks man- thumbs

    My first guitar was an Affinity Strat and the only thing I disliked about it was the narrow nut width which was specific to the Affinity line. That being said, while it was a negative for me, it might be a positive for others. Otherwise an excellent guitar for the price.
    Edit - After looking at specs on Squier's website, the Affinity range now have 42mm nut widths.

    Squires are the best budget mod platforms out there! I needs to pick one of these up cause I don't own a tele & don't like the traditional pickup layout!

    I've already ordered one for my young brother. But I ordered the black one with maple fretboard... which it's obviously one of the most iconic guitars ever (not just teles...) Nobody its speaking about that one. This looks nice. But come on. You can't beat the look of a black tele deluxe.

    I played this guitar expecting to getting closer to a Squier Classic Vibe type thing. I was sadly disappointed. The knobs felt cheap, the selector switch is sideways and not up and down. The guitar felt cheap and played like it felt. With all new electronics it might be a decent guitar. I've played Harley Bentons and they're by far superior, I've played Xavier and the tele I have is far better. And I don't get paid anything to say that. They just seem to make $400 guitars for $200.

    I got this exact guitar same finish and everything. Feels great but the pickups seem to have no output and get real muddy. I will most certainly be modding the hell out of this guitar.
