I was deployed to the Persian Gulf region in 2010. Casting Crowns came at their own expense to play for us after a European tour. Usually the USO will sponsor all sorts of entertainers and help get them overseas to us. But the USO would not touch them, b/c they're a Christian group. So they came at their own expense, renting concert sound and lighting equipment in country, traveling on their own commercially, just for us. They spent out of pocket around $200,000 just to perform a concert for us and one other place. Even after all that, they wanted to sell CDs after the concert. Military would not allow it. So they just gave them away to all the soldiers, airmen and sailors that came. In addition to that, they stayed behind and signed everyone of those CDs for all the troops. This group is the genuine article of what a Christian musical group is supposed to be both out front on stage and behind the scenes. I will remember this act of kindness as long as I live. It wasn't until after my divorce, that I heard this song. By then it was too late to reconcile. She had gone her way and I, my own way. I never cried so hard in my life hearing this song. I realized that neither of us had to be perfect, but that we could embrace each other's imperfections and allow Christ to form His perfect will in our lives. I won't get that chance with her and I have come to accept that, but I pray in my next marriage, things will certainly be different. It's not in the arguing that you've given up, it's when one, the other or both have stopped caring. If you have strength to argue, you still have a chance to save your marriage.

Oh so true. Seeing things late really HURTS! Have to be thankful that God mends my heart and can others if we allow Him too. We have a hope and a FUTURE in Him. He loves us more than anyone ever could or ever will‼️‼️‼️

I know your story all too well. God lead me to stand for my marriage and all though it was a rough road to recovery it was so worth it. Both my husband and I 16 years yesterday are more in love than ever and God is always the center. My husband was an atheist now He is the Head of our home and honors God in everything he does because I built a relationship with Jesus and put Him first before everyone. I pray God's richest blessings over you and your one flesh wife and covenant marriage. God hates divorce and adultery.

beautiful song. i went through a rough divorce but 2 weeks after it was finalized we remarried again. it has been almost 8 years and God's grace has change our lives. Both serve God together and appreciate each other.

After almost 44 years of marriage, my husband and I have "been there, done that." We didn't have this song to inspire and help us. God came through and helped us to grow and "hang in there." I learned that not all things between people get "resolved" - there are some things that we just have to weather through and/or just let go of them. What we have now is more precious than anything in this world. It cannot be found any other way. God makes good "glue". Hang on to Him and allow Him to hang on to you when you can't hang on any longer. He can do what we can not do. He is the great "I Am."

Our only child passed in 2011. It too put an unimaginable strain on our marriage... somehow, by the grace of God, we survived. Yet here I sit.... all these years later... listening to this over and over again, wondering what now.
Nurture. Take walks together. Read to each other, which is great brain food. Pray together as a family. Not just mealtime. You can DO it w God only.
Only when Christ is in the center can we really have the true peace he desires for us.

I just heard this song for the first time last night. I think it’s my favorite song ever and I’m not even married. It’s the most honest cry of the heart of every person. Broken we are, and broken we will broken forever until the day we get to hug Jesus and let him wipe away every tear.
Makes me think about the relationship between my parents. They're both broken and expect each other to fix them but only God can do that. I haven't cried in months but a song this powerful made me break. Thank you Casting Crowns for putting it in perspective.

Everytime I hear this song I cry. I am 14 years old and my parents got divorced when I was 5. I always think it was never my fault and why can't I be like all the other people who have their parents together? They're still friends, I just always pray that maybe someday things will work out. Thank you Casting Crowns, this album has gotten me through some hard times. I bought it too.
I'm 22 and my parents got divorced too when I was just 5.
I remember telling my dad he should by my mother a ring, and then we would all be back together again. But I gave up, because my mother and father both have other partners now. I don't want to say you should give up praying, because I don't know your parents, but don't be upset my dear, because God will love you forever, and for me he replaced the hole in my heart for his love. Keep close to God and he will brings you the best things he has in store for you :) And who knows, a miracle can happen! God bless you.

Im 48 years old Ark Light and was given up for adoption while my mom was still carrying me and neither of my families wants me and never really have. I did nothing wrong anymore than you did but I know our Father loves me and you and that we have millions of brothers and sisters ! It's hard sometimes to remember that when you're hurt, when you're sad and age doesn't change that but keep the faith honey things can and will work out not always the way we would like but they will. It's great your parents are still friends that doesn't happen often enough, that may not seem enough for you but be glad and thank God they are still in your life . You'll be in my prayers!!

Love this song when I heard it on the radio.My husband and I are celebrating 30 years of marriage this year and people say,"Wow,that's a long time,no one stays married that long".What many people don't know,is that 4 months into our marriage,I attempted suicide and spent two weeks in a psychiatric hospital for evaluation.I struggled with depression and didn't want children.How's that for the 'blissful' first year? Through a closer walk with Jesus,we have adopted 5 children and our love is deeper and more patient than ever before.We are broken together.This is the marriage recipe for a truly 'loving' marriage.

I too attempted suicide, after our first son was born. they called it post partum depression, but in hindsight, I was immature. not ready for being married, having children at 20. my husband stuck with me then and 35+ years and another son, now 4 grandkids later, he's still hanging in there. we were broken together then and we still are now. god had plans for us to stick it out, that's for certain. :)

my husband n i aretogether 20 yrs..everyone said we would fail we both struggled w addictions..deep depressions..a recipe for disaster including 3 jail stays..thru it all we were seeking God..n he was revealed..thru much deep pain n struggling..god was and is the glue of us staying together..now in our fourties...we begin the true walk w God..not without our brokeness.. but together w God in the center.
"Broken Together" is not just about marriage. K-LOVE radio (Christian Music radio with 500 stations) has a feature called "Behind the Music" where a song writer will tell how they came up with a particular song. I heard the story of "Broken Together" on the radio by Mark Hall of Casting Crowns, and I just found this telling of the story in an interview published online. (Link at the end) "Somewhere in the history of the church, believers got into our heads that to be a good witness and to share Christ the right way, we had to act like we had it all together. I don’t know how we learned it or how we had it ingrained into us but that’s what you see.
People are fighting all the way to church in their car, but there’s something about this magic parking lot of the church, when their foot hits that pavement, everything is beautiful. Everyone becomes your brother, everyone becomes your sister, everyone’s having a great day. We’re just “blessed beyond measure.”
It’s not real. What happens is we’re portraying something thinking that, “I’ll just fake it till I make it.” Or we think, “If people think things aren’t going well for me today they won’t want to be saved.” Yet, I don’t think it really bothers the world that we sin. It bothers the world that we act like we don’t. It just doesn’t seem real.
I want advice from someone who’s been where I am. I want to hear truth from someone who’s fallen a few times and has a few scars. It can also be about any of us as Christians who feel like we have to appear to "have it all together" when in truth, we don't. I guess primarily it is about marriage and family, but he mentioned something in the radio interview about God not expecting us to be perfect - but to be imperfect with companionship of other Christians. Bottom line - it's a beautiful song, and I love it. The simple piano accompaniment and then the wonderful cello line coming in gave me goosebumps the first time I heard it. :o)

24 years ago I wed the love of my life. My wife has stood by me, supported everything I have attempted to do. Because of her, I found JESUS, I found the love she had. We were a real team, she and I, 9 years ago she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. It's been so hard to watch the love of your life, your soul mate, your partner be devoured by this horrible disease. We have been broken, financially disturbed, it just doesn't matter. I labor hard through the day, cut wood till darkness sets in. Exhausted, and sleep deprived, the best time of the day is when I hold my wife in my arms and comfort her till she falls asleep. We have been broken, but ... We're complete. We have the love of Jesus.
John Myers I understand what you're going through. My grandmother is currently suffering from Alzheimer's. As the years go by, she is growing steadily worse, though her medication is slowing the progress some. She is not the same cheerful woman that she was even two years ago, rambles on about nonsense now and lives in the past. It is hard to see her go through this, she is in constant fear of being left alone and needs to be supervised 24/7. I cry to even think about it, what it must be like for her, and find myself wishing for God to just call her home, to give her the peace she deserves. I will send up a prayer for you and your wife. May God give you strength to get through this and may He grant her serenity and peace to ease her distress when she feels alone and afraid. She is blessed to have you there with her to keep her safe and secure. The Lord be with you now and forever. Amen.
John Myers I am so sorry to hear about your wife, you two will be in the prayers of my husband and I. We just chose this song as the anthem of our marriage, after deciding that original song that we picked out almost 14 years ago did not speak for who we are with Christ any longer. I can tell you that the emotional comfort that I get from my husband is next only to God. Your wife may have problems with her memory, but her emotions go so much deeper than that, the comfort you provide to her on an emotional and "feelings" basis are anchored in who she is, and that is something that Satan cannot take away from the two of you. May his blessings fall on the two of you, even in this hard time.
Greetings from Mexico, I really admire your labor as a husband, please pray for me so I can be better husband even if my situation is not the same, we are sound phisically and mentally but the ego and the wrath was about to destroy my marriage, we are separate for no big reasons really, I wish I can become a man that really loves as you do. To some of the people saying this song sets a negative attitude towards marriage and love in general.... The song in my opinion is being completely "broken" by Gods love and grace. The only way to last forever is for both of you to be completely submitted to God, giving up your broken dreams and living together through his plan.

People don't realize when you say those vows how serious they are. Every hair and flake will be tested and Satan is out to steal kill and destroy. I think everyone comes to this place in their marriage at least once, the test is relying on God to keep it together. Only through you will you have the patience and the strength to do it. Lean not on your own understanding. My wife and I went through alot a few months ago(mostly because of me...well all because of me) I was fortunate to have someone whose heart is filled purely with God's love and I'm also bless to be a bit enlightened and realized my mistakes. I humbled my self at my father's feet and was broken in humility. Remember the definition of repentance is not just saying sorry..it's turning away from your wrong doing. When I refocused my center back on god, the results were life changing. Just a little encouragment.
Though sweet, I found this song spiritually anemic. For transformation, comforting the soul must be combined with the quickening of the Spirit. What I hear in this song is resignation to remain in the wilderness. When hopelessness stalks you in the wilderness, you both need to find the shepherd again and make sure you are following Him. Being consumed with each other may feel pertinent, but your unity is and always will be in the Spirit, as obedient children of GOD first. As long as there remains assurance that the Potter has access to repair the vessels, you have hope to continue pouring into the marriage. “Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.” Phil 1:6
i hear the message in this song that we each bring our own baggage into relationships and its a beautiful thing to accept one another as broken yet we can be broken together and make it through cuz no one is perfect! shows unconditional love just as our Father loves us.....

This was performed at our church this past sunday during a series about marriage. This week was about divorce and trying all you can to hold it together and not just giving up on each other. I am thankful my husband and I have experienced a new and wonderful life centered around Christ and how He has given us strength to forgive each other for our wrongs just as Jesus has forgiven us. This was perfectly wonderful and so fitting for us as we trekked a very hard and rocky road attempting to travel without our Lord in the center, guiding us.

I thought I'd never remarry. Healing couldn't be spoken for my first marriage. It was never a marriage of God. It was a marriage of pain, personal interests and abuse. But, God put a man in my life that was just as broken as me, and didn't pretend not to be. But, a man that has a great heart and loves God.
