- ➣ In the middle of the 19th century, the Taiping Rebellion, led by the self-proclaimed brother of Jesus, broke out throughout China, resulting in a death toll of 20-30 million people. Despite being crushed by the Qing Dynasty, remnants of the uprising still existed throughout the 1860s as they fled to Northern Indochina in the form of various banditries. These armies would cause havoc in the region and be a crucial part of the French conquests of Vietnam and Laos.

Liu Yongfu is such a fascinating character, starting out as a rebel against the Qing, he eventually allied with them to fight the French and was also involved in the fight against the Japanese in Taiwan. The most insane part is despite living a life of rebellion and banditry, he managed to outlive the Qing dynasty as a retired bureaucrat and died peacefully of old age

I know this is a a bit late but the flag you use for the Taiping is not their flag, it's actually the flag of Du Wenxiu of the Kingdom of Pingnan from the Panthay Rebellion; since they had no single flag I'd recommend just throwing the characters 太平 on the Taipingball.
Another Zwee classic
Their leader will went on to become the second president of formosa
I've heard that some black flag army moved to laos and siam. Can someone explain about this movement called the haw wars?
