    Part of the reason that "cone" (which is actually meant to be a dish shape) is so hard to make that way is that the original one is spun on a lathe.

    I don’t know if Alec is just incompetent or if Colin Furze is just an absolute fabrication monster, but I feel like Colin would’ve knocked this project out in a weekend… lol
    He’s made perfect sheet metal balls, cones, spirals, drill tank treads, and so much more and makes it look pretty easy!
    Maybe it’s planning.. or tools? Idk… I think Colin just makes it look so easy that I assume it actually isn’t that hard and it probably is. So I’m going to say that this just makes me respect Colin even more.

  • @SuicideNeil
    @SuicideNeil 10 месяцев назад +9

    You need a dome shape for that larger portion of the lamp shade- I'd suggest looking at how cosplayers make similar shapes with foam sheet and copying that, rather than making a cone shape. Will be much more true to the original lamp shade and probably much easier too...

    • @SuicideNeil

      @@robertharris1748 I think size is the issue- that's a huge piece or pieces of metal to heat and beat into shape, way more effort than it's worth for what is essentially a gag project.

    When I make big circles with sheet metal or steel, I usually add reinforcement bars to keep the circle true. Once I got everything buttoned up, I remove the reinforcement bars from the material. I weld the bar, diameter of the wanted circle inside of the sheet matal. Then add another crossing the first just behind the first. This reduces the chances of the weld busting and the sheet warp. Great idea in using the ring for help the seem to more ridged.

  • @aserta
    @aserta 10 месяцев назад +7

    Don't use that method to remove rust from metal, because it warps that kind of a thin sheet. Use the eyepoker3000, brass preferably, with a light touch. You're only making more work for yourself whenever you warp things you want to weld, especially thin things.

    I think I found the part where you guys went wrong.
    The lineup consisted simply of six hydrocoptic marzelvanes, so fitted to the ambifacient lunar waneshaft that sidefumbling was effectively prevented. The main winding was of the normal lotus o-deltoid type placed in panendermic semiboloid slots of the stator, every seventh conductor being connected by a non-reversible tremie pipe to the differential girdlespring on the ‘up’ end of the grammeters. Moreover, whenever fluorescence score motion is required, it may also be employed in conjunction with a drawn reciprocation dingle arm to reduce sinusoidal depleneration.
    Give that a try.

    Regarding quenching steel. Three things could be tried that would create a lot more work.
    Pulverize a lot of daily multiple vitamin pills then mix them into water. If it makes a difference then begins the hard work of figuring out which part or parts or combination of parts had the effect.
    Almost as complicated but easier to do would be to saturate water with salt and then with sea salt which has a lot of minerals.

    Just want to add a couple thing I mean good job on the hand DIY
    A Pittsburg machine make locking seams on thin sheet metal to be able to lock it down with a professional look and do safety folds on edges
    You can buy tremmle points to be able to draw circles on a bench or ground. They clamp to a bit of shs
    Your probably smart enough but if you want to cut you sheet to spot on for a ring or barrle take the mean middle of the thickness) diameter and X it by pie will give you flat cut length
    When you join your diameters (or two cones and or barrles) instead of just starting at one point and working one way measure you circ of each peice on the edge divide it by 8, 12, 16 or 32 ect and make the points line up. (Will stop a bubble at the end. Then just tack and dress in between

    Use Silicon Bronze mig wire, its great for lighter steel as its a braze rather than a weld and you get a nice looking goldish weld seam/bead

    Very easy to tell, neither are a circle. Yet. However, mark out a circle on your peg table there, arrange pegs. Weld your bar. then fit the sheet. Trim to shape/size.

    I always think of a bead roller as an out-of-spec can opener 🤣

    I’ve watched all of these videos and half way through this one is the first time I’ve thought “what kind of light bulbs are you going to use for this?”

    I hope you're getting a massive light bulb for this lamp. Maybe that glassblowing place you visited could sort it out

    I think when you crimped the ends of the pieces that threw off your measurement for the circumference by that much. That is why your pieces did not line up.

    Could use a backing ring out of 1"x⅛ to stiffen the ends. Spot weld

    The person who knows the exact technique for all that is Ron Covell and he did a video pretty recently that involved trapping a wire in a bead rolled edge.

    you could weld 2 bits or square pipe in a cross with the diameter of the circle u need to use as a guide for bend the wire. if the bar wire is touching a 4 point of the cross then it should create a circle
