Quinto is an amazing actor and a hairy beast to boot. Just a side note..I went to Nursing school at university of Wisconsin in Madison. We had our psychiatric training at the facility in which Ed Gein was a patient. Just to look at him, he seemed like a quiet, soft spoken grandpa. Hard to believe he made human skin lampshades and cranial skulls for candy dishes.
I love Asylum, Zachary Quinto as Bloodyface was incredible, sure the concept has been done before in fiction Hannibal Lecter was a Doctor, you already mentioned the Buffalo Bill/Leather Face similarities, but it was still amazing, I guess the fixation on his Mom was very Norman Bates as well, but yeah that was my favorite part, the Aliens were awesome too.

Ed Gein wasn't officially a serial killer. He was only linked to two murders. To be considered a "serial killer," you have to commit three murders over a course of time. Ironically, many famous fictional serial killers were based on Gein, even though there's no proof that he was one. Maybe he did kill more than 2 people, I don't think we'll ever really know, but he's actually more famous because of stuff that he did with dead bodies, most of which were stolen from graves.
