    There are comments below that describe how this behaviour from the obstacle avoidance is by design and is normal. If it is, OK that's fine. But this is still very useful information, I didn't know this and many others will not have known this. Not everyone reads the manual from cover to cover. It is testament to DJI that this drone is so intuitive that it does not require us to do so. It's a great drone and a lot of fun.

    I'm not sure your length of experience with DJI's previous drones, but the bypass mode has never passively moved without stick input. In fact, I think this would be a safety hazard in itself. I don't want my drone randomly moving on its own. The reason the drone will lift upwards is due to the landing protection feature. This allows the drone to scan underneath of the drone and raise its altitude to maintain a safe distance from the ground. In short, there is no "problem" with the obstacle avoidance. This is how it was designed.

      Thanks for your informed reply! It only poses a problem to the uninformed. If you are aware about how it reacts or does not react then you can plan accordingly and probably don't take the risky shot you previously intended. Also something to be aware of is that the ground sensors don't recognise water very well, so better be careful when flying low over water.

      It's in the normal mode with obstacle avoidance set to bypass, you can see that also when I fly the drone towards me. Obstacle avoidance works fine as you can see in my other video where I only test that. But you have to know that it only works when the drone is flying and not when it's hovering. @@danielbercea54

    Hey, if you’re used to using Dji drone products, the obstacle avoidance only work when the drone is in motion you can still walk into it or it could be hit when it’s hovering. Just keep that in mind I’ve been using drones for many years and it’s something I’ve learnt, it doesn’t move while it’s hovering it only Avoid obstacle while it’s in motion. The only other drone that I know that would move downwards when you put your hand on top of it was the Mavic pro 2 and that’s because he also had an infrared sensor on top. Also, the only reason why it moves upwards while you do that is because the underneath has it has infrared sensors as well as downward facing obstacle avoidance sensors it’s the infrared sensors that makes it rise.. Hope this helps.

    I have been flying DJI drones since the original phantom came out and I never realized this. For some reason I just assumed I wouldn’t have to worry about someone walking into the drone while I have it hovering checking my settings. A runner from out of nowhere almost ran right into it one day, but was able to lift it up in time. I assumed up until I saw this video that the obstacle avoidance would have helped in this situation. Something to be mindful of for sure.

      Thanks for your comment! Something very similar happened to me too back when I had the first DJI Mini 1 which didn't have obstacle avoidance. Good to know for these situations it's still the same as with the Mini 1 even tough we now have obstacle avoidance built in.

    The obstacle avoidance does not avoid things moving towards the drone. It’s when the drone is moving towards things, it avoids it.

    It might be hazard to juniors if they are running to your drone hovering below 1.5 meters or lower level.

    Makes sense. When a tree runs up on you, then its an issue. Coming from the bottom is just for landing. Thats why you have to grab it quick while descending, then flip it upside down to stop the props rather then waiting forever for it to decide to land.
    Love your mic set up.

      Do not turn it upside down while the propellors are turning. This puts strain on the motors. Wait a few seconds and the propellors will stop automatically.

    The obstacle avoidance has almost no blind spots. It's designed in a way that it bypasses obstacles that it approaches not things that approach it. But when you get close to it from the bottom, it moves up because of the infrared ground detection sensor. If you really want to test it out, you should put it on bypass and then fly the drone into obstacles manualy from diffrent directions.

    • @niconfocus
      @niconfocus  Год назад

      Thanks for your clarification! Still important to note that the drone can crash if someone or something approaches the drone a little bit too close. I will do another video where I test the obstacle avoidance when flying.

      . Good information in your video that others might not be thinking of. It would be nice to have the ability to turn it on or off, so for instance if it was hovering for video or photos and a bird attacked it, it could defend itself. Years ago someone posted a video of their quadcopter flying along when an eagle approached it from the front in full attack mode with it's talons ready to make the kill and the quadcopter reared up in a similar fashion to stop quickly, and the eagle broke off the attack because its prey suddenly looked to be in the attack mode itself. @@niconfocus

      @@niconfocus A drone has to be user-friendly. DJI doesn't make drones for bikers and hikers. It only works in a lab. Soon you go on a bike tour you won't have time for all the crap. What you want is a drone you can get in the air in seconds without all the crap. Nobody uses active-track. Who is going to risk a $800 drone anyway? Fly it high enough and away from obstacles. And that is exactly when GPS follow-me is far more reliable and safer.
      Don't get me wrong. DJI is the best. And I love active-track. But if you want a DJI for you bike trips get a Mini that is compatible with Maven or Litchi so you have follow-me as well.
