💥Due to a recent update a couple of things have changed. These don't make a massive difference but let me cover them 💥 1 - Subject scanning is gone. Subject scanning has been removed from the menu and we now have Focus Track. This does a very similar job to subject scanning and can be toggled on and off using the button on the left of the screen which looks like this [ o ] You can still select a subject by drawing around them and this will bring up that tracking options as shown in the video. Otherwise you can toggle on focus track and then click the plus icon to select the subject you want to track. The operation of the tracking features is still the same as in this video. The only exception being the addition of Active track Auto which will perform automated drone moves whilst tracking you. 😃
Justin, I just purchased the mini 4 pro only two days ago, I'm a backpacker and I've never owned a drone before. Your how to track video was sooooo helpful with your simple explanations! Thank you!!!
Hey! That's amazing, you're going to love having a drone! I'm more than happy to help! Glad you got a lot of value from the video! Any questions just fire away 😁
Same here, it seems that it can do more then any of the ads from dji say it can. Im just waiting to get out and use mine now as only had it a few days and just had a few goes in the house
Justin, As a trainer, I love your tutorial content. It's clear, concise, thorough and well thought through, assuming no prior understanding. The level of fine detail and demonstration you include puts your content above any of the many others I've seen to date. Finally, your relaxed and personable delivery creates connection and fosters inclusion. 👌 I look forward to seeing more. Thanks so much. Kaz, Sydney
Thank you so much Kaz. Comments like this really give me the fuel to keep putting out the content. I have a lot more planned for the Mini 4 Pro too. Hopefully even more helpful! Welcome to the Community 😁
I have watched many videos trying to explain the active follow features of mini4 pro but never come across something as detailed as this video, that too under 20 minutes. You have earned a new subscriber 😅❤
I can’t thank you enough for your videos. I would never be able to figure out this stuff without your help. I am amazed by what this drone can do. Thanks again.
Finally I learned how to use the MOST INTERESTING FEATURE and the main reason i bought the drone camera. No one else said to hit the settings button ... and select 'control', 'subject scanning' etc etc. Ive been driving myself crazy to learn how to use this feature ! I was able to take careful notes and now feel confident to use this feature on my next outing. THANK YOU!!!!!!
You're very welcome! I always try to be fully comprehensive in my videos so it's nice to see you got the help you needed with these features. Safe flying 😃
Just ordered a M4P yesterday and have watched 5 other videos before finding yours and wanted to say Thanks because I learned more from this video than from all the others combined. Great video!
Hey! I'm glad you found your way to my video. Yep I always aim to provide the most comprehensive tutorials out there! I'm glad you found it useful and welcome to the community! 😃
This is a great tutorial....not so slow that you want to doze off...and not so fast that I can't follow you....perfect pace, and great information...if not for this video, I would probably never become aware of some of these features...a million thumbs up to you for content and presentation
Thank you! I'm glad you found it to be a helpful video with good pacing. I try to make the most easy to follow tutorials I can so I'm happy that you found that to be the case. Thanks again 😃
Thanks very much for this EXCELLENT description and demonstration of the Active Track mode on the Mini 4 Pro. This was so helpful to me! Keep up your great work Justin! And stay away from those flys!!!
Bro I have no enough words to thank you on this unique gemstone video of yours!! No one on RUclips has touched on this subject like you did and none of the BIG youtubers explained the active track functions so in depth like you did, I was literally searching on how to track a moving subject and perform 360 using spotlight, am amazed despite having much less subscribers you were the only one who described it perfectly to me as I needed to learn that before performing a shoot for a client in a few days ! So many thanks and tons of respect for you bro ! Unfortunately here in Dubai we don't have the flexibility to fly any drone for that matter is it can lead to jail if not permitted, so I had to learn from your video in order to perform it perfectly as I always used to do all flights MANUALLY including 360 orbits, never actually used the active track for my flights Thanks again buddy, love from Palestine ❤❤❤❤
Thank you bro! Comments like this mean the world to me. I'm really glad you got everything you needed from this video, and it's helped you out in getting what you need to get done. Yeah, Dubai is a tricky place for drones, unfortunately. Yep, there are so many helpful features here to make your life easier. All the best, and thanks again 😃
@JustinBainbridgeYT ur welcome buddy, my pleasure, just wondering incorporating the method you described, do u have specific drone moves that works best with spotlight or poi ??
Thank you. This was real helpful. I've been kind of paranoid about using the active track feature mainly because I don't have any clear areas nearby that I can practice in. Most online tutorials are done by folks who just assume that the viewers already have some sort of drone flying experience. I'm not one of those experienced types.
You're more than welcome! I always try to cater my videos to suit a wide range of skillsets. If there's anything you need help with, just let me know and I'll talk you through it! 😁
Very good. I just got my F Mini 4 Pro this week and here in the Northeast of England, between the rain and attrocious wind I've not once had the drone out - so I'm taking the opportunity to learn (my last drone was the Mini 2) and this video has been particularly useful.
Thank you! Ah that's a shame, one of the main reasons I got out of the UK and went on the search for better weather. I hope it clears up for you soon and it's not too cold out to enjoy it. The mini 2 was an excellent drone, but the Mini 4 Pro is a whole new level. Good luck! 😃
Thanks for the update in the comments. I did what you said at first and the button didn’t work, then it told me I have a firmware update so I did that. Why it was updating I read through the comments and saw your update. Follow’s me perfectly. Thanks again. Subbed
You're very welcome! We can't add things to existing videos so I always make updated to the pinned comment it anything major happens. Glad it all worked out 😃
Dude I’ll say it again, as a new flier I started with the mini 2 Se just to get the bearings of flight. Great drone but limited for what I need it for. Got the M4P for the vertical and 360 tracking 🤘. What a machine brother💪. Thanks for breaking these videos down for us noobs to understand 😂. Great job brother
Haha thanks brother! No problem, I feel it's only right to try and help out my fellow drone fliers and help everyone get more out of their drone and better footage! I do love the M4P. Such a good drone! Thanks for the support bro! 🤙
Justin, loved your video tutorial! Please either edit the existing tutorial with an update section showing the new Focus Track update or a new updated video. Thanks!
@michellenee6427 Hey! Thank you. Unfortunately, RUclips doesn't allow me to add sections to an already uploaded video. Focus track is a minor update to how it works. You can still select a subject by drawing around them or by clicking focus track which then basically gives you subject scanning. I have provided an update in the pinned comments, but the change for focus track doesn't warrant removing this video and making a new one as all the active tracking functions works exactly the same. I updated the pinned comment a couple months ago with this info when the changes came, have a quick read of that if you're still unsure 😃
Great info, I've watch a bunch of your videos and just subscribed. I'm going to use my mini4 with my mountain biking adventures. It's been one storm after an other here so no chance to get out and test it. I'll have to watch this a couple of times before I go out! This is a great bit of kit.
Hey! That's great to hear, I'm glad you've been enjoying the videos! That sounds fun! Hopefully the weather clears up soon and you can get out and have some fun with it! It sure is, I still love the Mini 4 Pro!
Having the Mini 3 and 4 Pro, your ‘tutorial’ posts are great to help stay up n everything. My Part 107 depends on it here in The USA so I appreciate all you’ve done. Going to try the goggles soon, holding my breath on how that will change things. I not interested in the Avata anymore because of the sound issues, and since they added FPV to the 4, and I’m so spoiled with the fly time and battery life of my Mini 3s and 4 Pro! Thanks for all you do!
You're more than welcome! I'm sure you'll have a blast with the Goggles. I have the Goggles 2 also but I use them with a freestyle and cinematic FPV drone. Hope you enjoy it!
Thank you Justin for the amazing tutorial/ tips. You made it brilliantly easy to understand, Its near impossible to find any other channel like yours, so I've subscribed. Thank you
Hey! You're more than welcome. I like to make sure I make it easy to understand and fully comprehensive. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Welcome to the community! 😃
I do bird hunting videos on my channel, and this tutorial was extremely helpful. The Mini 4 Pro has everything I need to self-film my hunts, and the learning curve can be steep. Thanks for posting!
Outstanding video, Justin. Thanks so much for the "How To" video on the Mini pro 4 tracking info. I'm ready to use my tracking on my mini pro 4 now. Cheers!
Terrific stuff Justin. I’ve now watched 7 of your MP 4 videos in preparation for my purchase. So succinct and clear . Will now sub. Heading to Greenland shortly where the flies also swarm….. poor you trying to teach and film and stay focused during all that
Thank you! That's great to hear, It's an excellent place to start and my videos cover so much of what you need to know about it. haha I'm glad someone else knows the pain of the flies. It was a frustrating experience at times but it was worth it for the community! 😃
Any thoughts on using LightCut as the drone editor? It contains music etc vs the more detailed CapCut but is it sufficient in your opinion? The best of luck in your new endeavor Justin. I’m sure it’ll be an excellent product. Thanks again, Jeff
Av been thinking about getting a drone for a while and I really thought the dji4 was gonna be so difficult, how wrong was I lol .. its got so many functions and safety features am glad I got it .. I just can't wait to get mire experience flying it and using the functions.. well worth the money and its not a cheap drone for a beginner to get lol
I just found your channel. great video tutorial for Active Track. beautiful scenery there in SA. The timeline benchmarks are brilliant. I'm subscribing to your channel to see what other things you've done. All things are good. Merry Christmas my friend.
Thank you! I'm glad you found the video useful and enjoyed the scenery. The SA outback does have some beautiful locations! There's plenty more stuff on here and still to come! Merry Christmas to you too my friend! Welcome to the community 😁
Very nice tutorial! Concise, clear and thorough information without the fuss. One aspect for the cyclists that bugs me, anyone with ideas on where to stick the RC while riding and tracking? It would move around and wouldn't look good hanging around the neck, in the bag screen or the sticks can be interfered.
Sure, there are some mounts you can buy for he bike's handlebars, I cant remember exactly what they are but I know that ther are some available for the RC-N1 and RCN-2, I would assume that there are also some for the RC2 - I would check amazon 😃
Great video but it seems like DJI had a new software update that took away subject scanning on the screen. Now to get to Active Tracking you have to tap the small square box with the dot on the left side of the screen. It’s not that easy to get into all the modes. Maybe you can make another video showing the new way. It would be more help than I got from DJI
Hey! Yes we got an update recently which has changed things slightly. You can still select a subject in the normal way of draing a box around them and that'll bring up the usual tracking features. Focus track which is the new icon is basically doing a similar job to subject scanning in allowing you to easily select subjects. so you can clikc the plus here and get into the tracking menu this way too, youtube doesnt allow me to update videos so I'll update the pinned comment. Everything else works the same as before Thank you!😃
Got yourself a sub. Wish other RUclipsrs would be straight and to the point and actually show how things work live like you do instead of just hanging out in their studio talking for 30 minutes with some fancy LEDs in the background and using stock footage
Hey! Thanks, I think there's a time and a place for studio filming, but with things like this, I prefer to just get out and actually do it. Makes more sense to me 😅
Hey Justin…thank you for your video..I am new to all this but I love it so far… I crashed my mini 4 pro to a tree on my first active track attempt…your video was really helpful!!! I am going to try it again!!!
Hey! That's amazing. Welcome to the drone hobby! It's a lot of fun isn't it! Every crash has a lesson in it, so as long as you learn something, then you can have a better experience next time. I'm glad you found the video helpful! Good luck!! 😃
Thank you for your reply…it is lots of fun to fly a drone…I love travelling and I have big plans for my drone…I think in my case drone crashed at the back because brunches was too thin… I am going to watch your videos to learn more…next destination somewhere hot…at the moment I am flying over UK and the weather not the best over here😊
@doggyys6710 Sure. I use Adobe Premiere Pro for editing my videos but it takes a bit of learning, and there's a monthly fee. Some good free options are Adobe Rush and Caput which are both easy to use. Davinci Resolve also has a free version, but again takes a but of time to learn the ropes.
Hi Justin and congrats for your very good video ! I'm wondering... would it be possible to have this kind of scenario with the drone : static shot of landscape with noboby, then automatic active track when someone is entering in the drone field of view (without activating it with the controller). Thanks in advance for your feedback :)
Hi Adrien! Thank you for the kind words, I don't think this would be possible, unfortunately. Active track needs to be locked onto a subject before it will work. You may be able to mimick this style of shot with some clever editing. However, it's beyond the limitations of this drone
@@JustinBainbridgeYT Thanks for your quick and precise answer that let me think about another particular case : let say we are in spot light mode, the drone is tracking someone who disappear behind a wall, who come back 5 sec. later. Does the drone will continue the tracking or do we have to re-activate it?
Excelent video. Worth weeks os hands-on flying experience. There is a good reason subject recognition is turned-off every time the M4 is powerd off: it is very CPU intensive and, should it have remained ON, between the powering ON of the drone and the take-off chances are it would have already caused the M4 to overheat.
Thank you! I also now agree after having the drone for a long time. I find it would also be annoying to see the pluses on the screen each time when you're not trying to track anything. 😃
Bravo 👏 I am a new Drone/mini 4 owner. Question….how do you get your voice recordings while flying/recording? I am a professional Snake Wrangler in San Diego CA. My hope is to record sounds while on snake removal or snake relocation events. Any input would be appreciated
Hi! You can record audio through the RC2 controller. You just need to connect a USB-C Microphone to the port on the controller. Then to record audio you need to do a screen recording on the radio. The audio will be recorded to the screen recording. You can then match the audio of the screen recording to the footage from the drone in post production. Voila you now have audio.
Justin, I’m wondering how you’re getting the audio from your mic to the video? Is it the drone video, a second camera, or a separate audio track? Thanx. Great videos!
That's awesome! you're going to love it. I have lots more videos on the Mini 4 Pro on here, plus some more to come including something special coming soon! 😀
well it's been 8 months and I only got to use it this week, really pleased with the footage but then after changing the battery I dropped the drone braking the hinge.i have put a couple min video on my channel, just rewatched this video as its so easy to follow all the tracking modes, I did update mine so now it has the new little dot / button, can't wait to get mine repaired and get back out there hope that you are doing well and that your brake from youtube you had has got well with your other projects. all the best to you
Thanks man! Not sure what you mean by range restrictions but if you're talking about unlocking FCC power in a CE region it is possible by using a modified version of the DJI Fly app. But its a lot of effort especially with the RC2 controller and not really worth it in my opinion 😃
Thank you! The best way to avoid drone anxiety is just to let it do its thing and trust that it'll work. After a few flights you'll become much more aware of what it can and can't do and you'll be more comfortable with it 😀
Hi Justin ... enjoying learning how to get the most from the tracking functionality. Thanks again. One point, once activated, the tracking options are slightly different to the ones described in the tutorial - for example, there's Manual and Auto mode. Manual brings up the tracking 'wheel' with the two rings and with Auto the drone seems to switch automatically between stationary and moving in an arc to be parallel. I guess that's a functionality change after the creation of your video ... :)
Hey! Yes, they added Active track Auto around 3 months after the drone was launched. I made this video in the first month. But auto is a pretty simple feature to use, so I didn't feel it necessary to make an updated video. I'm glad you're enjoying learning about the drone. It's so capable, and there's a lot to dive into 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT Took the mini and goggles 3 and RC 3 out today, a whole new experience....going to take some getting used to, if you have any tips on binding controllers and what that means to DJI with regards to the kit in your arsenal, that would be good....im in IT and computer peripherals connect without all the hassle DJIs setup appears to go with, I have paid for the controllers for the Mini 3 pro, Mini 4 Pro, have care refresh and all devices show as part of my kit bag on the DJI device page online, however If and when I added the Motion RC 3 today, I had to unbind and bind the RC 3, but I don't always want to fly with that....any info or a vid would be appreciated Justin, cheers bud. :-)
handy guide thanks, just had my first little crash got away with though. anyone figured out a safe way to stow the controller while tracking? or is it best to just leave handy incase of issues?
Thank you for this video. I was tracking my car driving down a quiet road and the drone descended as it was tracking me. Curious why it would do this. Thought altitude would stay steady.
thanks mate, one of the best clear tutorial on activetrack settings i've seen on youtube. You've got a new subscriber. Btw, i'm not sure i can't turn on subject scanning in my settings. I've tried to google it but it seems even when i made sure i was in flight mode and in both normal photo and video mode i still can't turn it on. Any ideas why?
Thanks mate! Welcome to the community 😁 For Subject scanning, you need to be actually flying to turn it on. I hadn't realised it at the time, but it always defaults to being off when you turn on the drone. If you still can't get it to work, then you might need to do a firmware update. I had another guy who had the same issue, and it was resolved with an update. Let me know if you're still having issues!
Great video. I was just experimenting with mine yesterday, and laughed as well when it automatically ducked under a tree branch. Amazing technology packed into such a small device. I assume you were using parallel when tracking the truck?
It's so funny isn't it haha, makes you feel so much more at ease when using it. I was in trace when following the truck, I just positioned it off to the side to see how fast it would go until ducking in behind
Such a good tutorial. Thank you. How did you record the audio? I don't hear the drone at all! Do you link your mic to the mimo app or ...how do you do it? I am a total newb!
Great video, I learned a few things… just curious about where you filmed this? Probably Australia although if I didn’t know you were Australian, I would assume this was someplace in Western Colorado, the US
Thank you! You were right with Australia. this was filmed in the South Australian outback, just next to the Flinders Ranges. A very beautiful place but lots and lots of flies 😂 I'm actually British but was in Australia for the last 2 years.
💥Due to a recent update a couple of things have changed. These don't make a massive difference but let me cover them 💥
1 - Subject scanning is gone.
Subject scanning has been removed from the menu and we now have Focus Track. This does a very similar job to subject scanning and can be toggled on and off using the button on the left of the screen which looks like this [ o ]

I do bird hunting videos on my channel, and this tutorial was extremely helpful. The Mini 4 Pro has everything I need to self-film my hunts, and the learning curve can be steep. Thanks for posting!
That's cool! I'm glad you found the video helpful! Best of luck with your Mini 4 pro and videos! 😃
Outstanding video, Justin. Thanks so much for the "How To" video on the Mini pro 4 tracking info. I'm ready to use my tracking on my mini pro 4 now. Cheers!
Thanks Justin. Just starting out with my first drone and your video on these features is very informative.
You're welcome! I'm happy to help! 😃
Great video; clear, detailed and concise ... perfect for a drone beginner like me! Thanks ...
Thank you so much! I'm glad the video managed to do what I hoped it would! Welcome to the community 😀
Thanks for this tutorial! You deserve more subs! 👏
You're more than welcome! I'm sure with time, they will come 😁
Great tutorial! The graphic showing your control moves is really helpful.
Thank you! Yes I thought it would make things much easier to follow along, I'm glad it paid off 😃
Terrific stuff Justin.
Thanks again,
Jeff
Excellent, well presented mate.

I just can't wait to get mire experience flying it and using the functions.. well worth the money and its not a cheap drone for a beginner to get lol
Yes the Mini 4 Pro is so beginner friendly! I'm glad you're having a good experience with it! 😃

Thanks for the great tutorial, I learnt a lot.🙂
You're more than welcome! Glad you were able to get some value from the video! 😁
I bought the Mini 4 Pro for just this type of video capture. Thanks for helpful advice.
That's awesome! Good luck with it 😃
Simple, to the point, useful. Keep going and your channel will grow a lot. All the best. Liked and subscribed. 💪😁
Thanks for the kind words! I will keep going and welcome to the community! 💪✌️
Just love your videos, you are so clear and informative. Keep it up! 😎 👍🏻 🇬🇧

Best active traction explanation! Good job Justin. Subscribed.
No problem! Happy to help 😃
Everything else works the same as before Thank you!😃
Yes! I agree!
Just subscribed. Great information in a concise manner, I appreciate the approach you have to your tutorials.
Hey! Thank you for your kind words. I just try to deliver information in a way that's understandable with minimal fluff. 😃
Makes more sense to me 😅
Thanks for that, it was really helpful and very well explained which made it easy to take it all in 👍
You're very welcome! Enjoy your Mini 4 Pro 😁
Awesome video thanks 😊
You're very welcome! 😊
Good luck!! 😃
Thank you for your reply…it is lots of fun to fly a drone…I love travelling and I have big plans for my drone…I think in my case drone crashed at the back because brunches was too thin… I am going to watch your videos to learn more…next destination somewhere hot…at the moment I am flying over UK and the weather not the best over here😊
Hey Justin…can you recommend any program for editing videos??? Thank you
@doggyys6710 Sure.
Enjoyed the video and will use this function a lot. Thanks!
Any issues using Active Track to follow a boat?
Awesome! Nope, works great on boats too! 😃
Good job at wearing contrasting colors for AT !
Great video Justin thanks very much
You're welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed it! 😃
Another great easy to follow Video!! You are a champ!! Thank you.

Thank you. Great explanation
You're welcome 😃
Thank you for this, well prepared and presented.
Thank you so much! 😁
This video deserves a Sub! Keep it up.
Thank you! Welcome to the community!
@@JustinBainbridgeYT Very cool. Thank you! ☺️
Best drone tracking presentation I've seen.
Thank you for your kind words. I'm glad you got the value I intended from this video. Enjoy your Mini 4 Pro! 😁
Justin, I’m wondering how you’re getting the audio from your mic to the video? Is it the drone video, a second camera, or a separate audio track?
Thanx. Great videos!
Hey! I'm recording the Audio to my phone's camera and then just syncing it all up in post production. Thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying them!
Great vid and content thanks man! Where did you film this?
Thank you! This was filmed in the South Australian outback, just near the Flinders Ranges 😃
really good explaination thanks
Thank you! You're welcome! 😃
Such a cool video, only had mine a few days, cant wait to get out and use it. thank you for such a good video

well it's been 8 months and I only got to use it this week, really pleased with the footage but then after changing the battery I dropped the drone braking the hinge.i have put a couple min video on my channel, just rewatched this video as its so easy to follow all the tracking modes, I did update mine so now it has the new little dot / button, can't wait to get mine repaired and get back out there
hope that you are doing well and that your brake from youtube you had has got well with your other projects.
all the best to you
Cool video man, got any tips on bypassing the range restrictions?
Thanks man! Not sure what you mean by range restrictions but if you're talking about unlocking FCC power in a CE region it is possible by using a modified version of the DJI Fly app. But its a lot of effort especially with the RC2 controller and not really worth it in my opinion 😃
Great explanation! Every time I use tracking in my back yard I end up cancelling it within a few seconds because it scares me near obstacles.
It's so capable, and there's a lot to dive into 😃
This video is very useful. Thanks for sharing
Thank you! I'm glad it was helpful! 😁
Just subscribed, great videos, very helpful. Thank you

Wonderful video !👏
Thank you 😁
This one was helpful
I'm glad you found it helpful 😃
handy guide thanks, just had my first little crash got away with though. anyone figured out a safe way to stow the controller while tracking? or is it best to just leave handy incase of issues?
I usually have a long lanyard holding the controller from my neck so you can be hands free.
Thank you for this video. I was tracking my car driving down a quiet road and the drone descended as it was tracking me. Curious why it would do this. Thought altitude would stay steady.
Not too sure why it'd do that unless the stick is bring pushed down for it to descend or the terrain is uneven and slightly uphill.
thanks mate, one of the best clear tutorial on activetrack settings i've seen on youtube. You've got a new subscriber. Btw, i'm not sure i can't turn on subject scanning in my settings. I've tried to google it but it seems even when i made sure i was in flight mode and in both normal photo and video mode i still can't turn it on. Any ideas why?
Thanks mate! Welcome to the community 😁
For Subject scanning, you need to be actually flying to turn it on. I hadn't realised it at the time, but it always defaults to being off when you turn on the drone. If you still can't get it to work, then you might need to do a firmware update. I had another guy who had the same issue, and it was resolved with an update. Let me know if you're still having issues!
Very informative, thank you.
Thank you. I'm Glad you found some value in the video 😁
Another great video ! Thanks !
Thank you! 😁
Such a good tutorial. Thank you. How did you record the audio? I don't hear the drone at all! Do you link your mic to the mimo app or ...how do you do it? I am a total newb!
Thank you! I record the audio using the DJI Mic connected to my phone then I sync the audio up in post production with the drone footage. 😃
It means POI mode gradient are not taken care by drone altitude set.
Great video. Does it have the tracking fuction where the drone just flies free style while tracking the moving object. Like the Mavic 3.
Hey, Thanks! No it doesn't do a random freestyle flight whilst tracking no. It will track based on your input or your movement 😁
Awesome video. What do you use to record your voice when you make these videos?
Thank you! I'm recording using the DJI mic connected to my phone. I then sync the audio to the drone footage in post-production 😃
