Very unfair. I brought a 2005 Freelander 1 TD4 in 2014, and Sold it on this year. Hardly spent a penny on her apart from the normal wear and tear parts. Didn't owe me a penny. I have now brought a Freelander 2.
I bought my 2005 TD4 in 2015 and have had almost five years of trouble-free driving, from the UK to Ukraine, and numerous trips to North Africa. It's been reliable, comfortable and I honestly can't think of another car I'd rather own. Automatic transmission is a huge plus.

Funny because it looks like you own two freelanders there 🤣🤣. I think they are like any vehicle on the road if you show it love and keep up on the maintenance and don't leave the little repairs so long they become big repairs then they are not bad vehicles. If driven properly they are decent little offroaders especially if you have good M/T tyres on it and a good belly pan. I have seen a FL1 keep up with fully kitted Discos and Defenders offroad all day long. Because the FL1 is lighter and has a shorter wheel base then some of those it does not need as much ground clearance. It sinks less in the mud and it can take different tracks the others can't fit on at times. Removing the rear prop does not have much effect on MPG as the engine is still driving the gearbox with the IRD still attached anyways. The TD4 is a decent engine with loads of grunt if it kept in good running order (like any engine) and even the 1.8 is not bad (once the head gasket has been replaced with a decent upgraded one) if driven correctly. Not everyone is a fan I get that and it is fine. Then again that Ranger did not sound too healthy 🤔😂😂.

Brilliant video. I love my freelander, I get random errors, warning lights and all sorts of crazy shit happening to it but I love it. Sometimes if you do something sudden the car shits itself and winds the back window down. I’ve called her Christine and I’m never getting rid of her.
If the window goes down, you probably have a loose battery connection. Freelanders are great cars, much maligned and under appreciated, but easy to fix and cheap and upgrade. 1.8 turbo 200bhp freelander anyone? Cheap to do! On youtube.

If you want ultimate performance on fL 1 you got to push her to do what you want perhaps as the Hippo she got a surprising grip and excellent traction abilities when she's ditched off road, watch freelander 1 Challenge and you'll respect Freelander 1 & 2🤔
I have a 56 plate 3 door hardback, td4 and it has been great in the 3 yrs so far . Only had a drive shaft and centre shaft bearing . Great fun around hills in Wales. Maybe I am just lucky, got all the extras and great with roof removed . So sorry lads for something I bought to help me with a surveying job once this is now a keeper for me
Haha great review. I've heard the stories. My dad was a mechanic for 45 years and slagged them off for the last 25 and still ended up buying one when he retired which it turned out was fucked and needed ALOT of work. (I still want one 🤣🤪)

sorry but this is so untrue like every other make if you don't service them regular you will get problems I have had 4 FL1 and 2FL2 and now have a FL1 with 164000 and it runs as sweet as a nut and yes they have there probs but look after them and they will look after you.
To be fair I'm on my second Freelander TD4. And you know something that bmw lump is very reliable... Not had any issues. 1st one way 2WD current one is 4WD and its so much better 4WD. Atleast you can call it a proper landy if its still got its prop. Yes probs not as good as TD5 off road but the TD5 break down a hell of a lot... Plus they are big and dopey compared to the little freelanders. It's a matter of opinion. I would have get in my TD4 and drive it across the other side of the world. I wouldn't trust a TD5 engine to do that with.. Not a chance. Freelanders are decent allroad motors, they don't deserve as much hate as they get... Also... The very back window goes all way down which makes it nice and breezey when you need it.. Disco's can't do that... Nothings perfect... Nothing...
Crap review, I've owned quite a few different 4x4s in the past Isuzu troopers shogun delica even an Austin gypsy they've all had there good points and bad points but in the end each one was different and each one appeals to people for different reasons, my td4 Freelander is better than the majority of the cars I had but that's all due to how you look after a car and remember , you paid £200 for yours so you get what you paid for.
M'y dear, to drive that every day in working time when I'll visite old lady who need a cut or hair color in her mountain's village and the ways are well duty covered by snow... I'll be glad with it I think
Rubbish review, we have two, these are the cheapest cars to run we have ever had. The simple fact is you MUST service when they are meant to be serviced. Fail to service on time and you kill them.

The Land Rover Gaylander was the worst thing to come out of Land Rover its a known fact.

I had a 2003MY ES a few years ago. Only problems I had were normal wear and tear. I loved that car.
I once heard a Land Rover parts shop worker say that even if you manage to get a Freelander for free, it's too expensive.
But it's the cheapest landrover you can get, a disco for freelander money will be rotten. And defenders cost the seam as a house.
