Thanks for your video instructions on both videos, Ryan. I followed along and paused them step by step and now I am enjoying listening to a LSM system with SDRTrunk that was hardly listenable before on my scanner. Your tutorial was clear and thorough.
Cool video, Ryan. I monitor the exact same system you do. I tried the Max Traffic Channels at >1, as you suggested. I remembered then why I found that setting early on and shut that down. Chaos! IDK how you do it man! But your video reminded me of it and got me thinking. The problem with one channel only is ignored aliases will dominate other calls with silence and priority doesn't do anything at all. But if I can figure out the priority with >1 channel so that the calls aren't walking all over one another, I'd be a happy camper. If you know to do that, I'd love to see a video. I miss the pre-trunk days where you could stop the scan on District 4, or whatever, and hang with something going down. I'd like to try to accomplish this, or something close, too somehow.
How do you set up the channels manually? I am NOT paying for a radioreference premium account for a hobby... everytime I enter the frequency in the channel list it just sits at Idle the whole time and not bringing in any data despite the RTL-SDR being fully operational.
HI I NEED YOUR HELP i have set up my RTLSDR dongle as you say to do and it is work but i have one problem the voice is clear on to receive but after 10minutes it cuts out and i can't understand any thing it songs all GARGLE and i cant understand anything CAN YOU LPEASE TELL ME WHAT TO DO TO FIX IT THANKS
Hmmm.... Unfortunately that is not an issue I have had. I'm not sure what would cause that. I'm not involved with the development of SDRTrunk, but perhaps you can reach out to the group that writes that software? Sorry I don't have an idea for your problem.
Well, you wouldn't get static... sounds like it either isn't decoding anything or you've got muted or you may somehow have the wrong audio output device selected. Past that, I don't know.
@@defalt7651 I don't have experience with that device, so I can't say for sure. I recommend referring to the sdrtrunk docs, where I think there is a list of supported hardware. For antenna, it just comes down to what you want to hear. In my area, I'm interested in the 800MHz band, and there is a strong signal in my area, so I just split off from my TV antenna. Your mileage may vary.
I'm using one. The thing you have to consider is bandwidth. For example, when I use my SDRPlay RSPdx, it has 10MHz bandwidth, so it can cover the full range of the Ohio MARCS system in my home area. When I run on an RTL dongle, the bandwidth of that receiver is only like 2MHz or something, so it will miss some traffic as it can't span the full spectrum from the lowest channel to the highest channel in the system. You can see this happening in the sdrtrunk log - it will have messages about "no Tuner available." I didn't realize this until after I made these videos, as it worked perfectly with my RSPdx, then it seemed to also be working fine with the cheap dongle. Only later did I start looking at the logs out of curiosity, see the messages and dig in to why they were there.
@@ryowens Thanks for the reply. I have about a thousand more questions but for now, I'll ask one. Can you put the trunked system and some VHF channels to scan all at once?
Man this stuff is gonna drive me to drinking heavily. I understand the program and have everything working correctly with everything showing up right in events but no matter what I do there is no sound. LMBE is update and loads correctly and if I put a random frequency in I get static sound so I know pc sound is good. I’m on Lawrence, Co. Ohio P25-1. I have all sound toggled on aliases etc.
If you gave up on getting sound by now, look up how to enable Windows sound mixer if you're using windows. It was the only way I got sound. If you're not using Windows then i can't help with that
(Mr. Ryan) Sir, a question please: how do I DELETE unwanted (created by mistake) Aliases and delete everything inside of an alias? Thank you - excellent video. I followed you and it works: I made a few mistakes - hey, things happen. Thanks again.
Off the top of my head, I don't know how to do it through the UI, but all of that gets saved into the playlist XML I think. Personally, I would just go edit that directly when the app is not running.
Thank you for the great video. I like it when video creators get to the point. I have had success with everything so far. However I cannot log into RR with SDRtrunk. Error msg comes up to check my credentials. I have spent a couple hours trying different things to get logged in, I know that Im logging in correctly and I do have a premium account with RR. If theres anything you could think of to get me logged in I would appreciate it. Im using the same version of sdrtrunk and java as you are in this video. Thanks so much for any advise at all.
Nothing comes to mind off the top of my head... I would say to try looking at the console output and any log files SDRtrunk creates. Past that, I'm not sure.
Unfortunately, that is true. When I made the video, I had a premium subscription and didn't realize it mattered. Someone pointed this out a few days after I posted the video, which is why I address this in the video description. It is still entirely possible to use the software though. You just have to do a little more work manually.
Your video made me throw 50 dollars in the trash. The sdr trunk program does not work for me on Windows, and now I found out that for it to work I need to have 2 rtl sdr dongles. If you had mentioned that detail I would not have made the purchase of this dongle

Very informative and easy to follow video, Ryan. Thank you!
Incredibly helpful. Thank you!
Great video, thanks! The docs are a bit vague about playlists and aliases. This cleared it right up.

ok when i hit play it says no tuner... but i have a waterfall at 100 mhz

Check out the video I just posted with a walk through for manual configuration. ruclips.net/video/vegJLSfwmu0/видео.html
Sadly im stuck on the JMBE Library updater
Its stuck at "please wait..."

I'm getting no sound from the sdrtrunked software not even any static.

Will this work with hackrf? And what antenna should i use? Thanks!

@Radsmachine I have not attempted that and don't know the answer. I've thought about it, but never tried it. Can't help you with that one.
how do i do this without buying the subscription
I just posted a video showing how to do this. See ruclips.net/video/vegJLSfwmu0/видео.html for a walk-through.

Having this same issue. Super annoying

@@ryowens Thanks Ryan. I'll check out the logs. I appreciate you getting back to me. Take care.
I ran into problems with radio reference. They NOW require a premium subscription, so this is all for not.
Thanks for your post though.

Get a 6 month sub and then don't renew. Its not expensive and it makes it so much easier

Work with SDR Play RSP DX!
Yeah you have to pay for a premium account for that.
Yes. See the video description text, where that is noted.
