We as African American need to really change our eating habits. But because of the poverty level, it is hard to buy healthy food products. Sometimes you have to make a decision between medicine and food. You really have to exercise and eat right. This has really helped me.
You don't need to buy healthy food. Just cut out all the carbs, and fat in your diet. Instead of frying your chicken, bake it with the skin removed. Use olive oil instead of lard or butter. Drink water or even diet soda instead of sweet tea. Eating healthy is cheaper because you're eating less but get full quicker since you're consuming protein and fiber instead of processed carbs.
Heaven forbid if I had to live in a place like Mississippi, I would desire lots of comfort food to amortize having to live in what seems like an awfully uncomfortable place.

You can make these healthy by baking the chicken..cooking the collards without salt..and ham..you can use pieces of healthier meat like turkey in that..i dont want my arteries clogged up..good food dont have to be greasy..or salty..or too much sugar..there are recipes you can substitute now. No excuse.

It's significantly quicker and easier to simply remove the Snickers Bars.
